Bollinger Shipyards has delivered the USCGC Myrtle Hazard to the U.S. Coast Guard in Key West, Fla. This is the 162nd vessel Bollinger has delivered to the U.S. Coast Guard over a 35-year period and the 39th Fast Response Cutter (FRC) delivered under the current program.The USCGC Myrtle Hazard is the first of three FRCs to be home-ported in Apra Harbor, Guam, increasing the presence for the U.S. Coast Guard in the Indo-Pacific Theater. Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Board of Directors has elected Jennifer R. Boykin to serve as executive vice president of HII and president of HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division, effective July 1. She will succeed Matt Mulherin, who announced that he will retire on August 1 after a 36-year career at Newport News Shipbuilding. Boykin, who will report to HII President and CEO Mike Petters effective July 1, currently serves as vice president, engineering and design for Newport News Shipbuilding.

A new episode of "Soundings," the official podcast of the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. John Richardson, was released Nov. 13. In the early days of subsea technology, there were a number of pioneers: men and women who stepped over the edge of what we knew about the underwater world. These individuals left the comfort of solid ground to explore beneath the waves and report back to the rest of us what they had seen. They pushed boundaries, raised the stakes and in some instances opened our minds to the possibilities. They were subsea visionaries. Today, those boundaries continue to be pushed, and undersea technology, now more than ever, is reaching new heights.

Crowley Maritime Corp donates check & personnel will help in field enhancements to benefit more than 500 local children and adults. Children attending YMCA summer camps and playing on sports teams in the Arlington area will soon benefit from Fort Caroline field enhancements following a recent donation from Jacksonville-based Crowley Maritime Corp . A check will be presented by Crowley’s David Holden, director, human resources, to the YMCA during a ceremony scheduled for Sat., Jan. 12, at 10:00 a.m. on the field. Shortly thereafter, Crowley employees and other community volunteers will work together to lay new grass seed, install fencing, add an irrigation system and perform other tasks to improve the field’s safety and function.

He is also President and CEO of the Ocean Technology Foundation a non-profit undersea research and exploration organization…

“Old sailors never die, they just drop the anchor,” Robert J. “Bobby” Pfeiffer said over a decade ago as he was contemplating retirement. Pfeiffer, one of Hawaii’s most renowned sailors and captains of industry, dropped the anchor on Friday, September 26, 2003, at age 83, at his home in Orinda, Calif., after a lengthy illness. During his 12 1/2 years at the helm of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., Pfeiffer became practically synonymous with business leadership in Hawaii. He charted a course of modernization and diversification, and led A&B through one of its strongest periods of growth and prosperity. At the same time he earned a reputation for leadership –– personal as well as corporate –– in support of charitable and other community causes.

Craig Tornga, general manager of oil industry services for Crowley Marine Services in Alaska, was awarded the 2001 Thomas Crowley Trophy, Crowley Maritime Corporation's highest honor, at ceremonies held last week in Seattle. Tornga, based in Anchorage, is a member of Crowley's Energy and Marine Services group, which is part of the corporation's Contract Services segment. Created more than a decade ago, the Thomas Crowley Trophy award honors employees with outstanding performance, whose dedication, leadership, initiative and productivity most clearly reflect those of the company's founder. The trophy, a limited edition, bronze sculpture depicting young Thomas Crowley as he ferried goods to and from ships on San Francisco Bay in the early 1890s…

Horizon Offshore, Inc. announced the board of directors has elected J. Louis Frank as chairman of the board of the Houston-based marine construction company. Replacing outgoing chairman, James Devine, a UK national, with Frank, a U.S. citizen, allows Horizon to meet certain U.S. regulatory requirements relevant to a recently awarded contract. Mr. Devine remains a member of the board of directors. J. Louis "Corky" Frank joined the board of directors at Horizon in July 2001. Frank has extensive oil and gas and management experience, having held numerous positions of responsibility over 43 years with Marathon Oil Company, including service as president of Marathon Ashland Petroleum. He retired from Marathon in 2001.
