Daehan Shipbuilding Gets DNV GL Approval for LNG Tanker

Korean shipbuilder, Daehan Shipbuilding (DHSC), has been given approval in principle (AiP)  from International accredited registrar DNV GL for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fuelled 115,000 dwt Aframax tanker.As the maritime industry continues to build on its efforts to reduce emissions to air, LNG as a ship fuel is attracting a great deal of attention across many ship sizes and types. The new joint development project (JDP) undertaken by DHSC and DNV GL focussed on producing a design that is tailored to these emerging regulatory and market trends.“We believe the completion of this joint development project will allow us to take a competitive position in a challenging market. Eco-friendly designs enabled DHCS to win newbuilding orders.

Oman Drydock Bags VLCC Contracts

Onassis-controlled Springfield Shipping will convert two oil-bulk-ore (OBO) carriers to VLCCs at Oman Drydock Company (ODC), Oman. The multi-million pound contracts will see ODC convert the recently bought 319,869 deadweight tonnage (DWT), 2010-built Selma B to the Olympic Lion and the 2009-built Camilla T to the Olympic Leopard. The ships will be converted from oil bulk ore (OBO) carriers to very large crude carriers (VLCCs). The deal follows an identical job ODC completed for Springfield on the Olympic Luck (ex B Whale) that was successfully completed in January this year. Oman Drydock Targets LNG Repair Market

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) is to formally launch a new partnership targeting the LNG carrier repair market at next month’s Posidonia trade fair in Greece. The new package is being launched with DSEC a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd (DSME), which is ODC’s official partner. ODC Chief Executive Yong Duk Park said Posidonia, which is one of the shipping industry’s biggest trade fairs, is an ideal location to raise the profile of ODC and the new partnership. ODC has a 52sqm stand in Hall 2 stand 2.217.

Oman Drydock Announces 200th Drydocking

Oman Drydock Company (ODC), based in the Middle East’s new mega city of Duqm, signaled its "passionate and driving ambition" to catapult itself further into the region’s multibillion dollar ship repair industry after completing its 200th drydocking since launching in 2011. A ceremony was held at the shipyard, which cost $1.5 billion to build, to celebrate the landmark with shipping giant Maersk whose vessel, the 4388 TEU Maersk Wisconsin, was the 200th ship to be drydocked by ODC.

Oman Drydock Announces Strongest Year of Trading

The Oman Drydock Company (ODC), one of the Middle East’s newest and biggest shipyards, is announcing its strongest year of trading. The shipyard undertook 75 drydockings and repairs in 2013 taking the total number to 190 since the yard which was opened in Duqm in Central Oman in 2011. ODC also saw staff numbers increase to more than 2,000 in 2013. The vessels ODC has worked on include Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), crude oil tankers, container ships, LNG and LPG carriers, chemical carriers, bulk carriers, as well as dredgers, RO-ROs and barges.
