Market Recovery Continues Across Japan for WSS

Speaking ahead of Sea Japan today, WSS General Manager for Japan Yoshihiro Iizuka says that although the Japanese market is moving towards growth for 2014, the recovery will be stronger in the second half, with an increase in newbuilds expected towards the end of the year. Iizuka says:  “Overall, the Japanese market is in recovery, with annual pay raises by the major corporates estimated at around 2-3% for 2014. However, the weakened Japanese Yen relative to the past couple of years has contributed to the widening of the trade deficit with particular reductions in export value.

WSS Says Demand for Services Remains Solid in Japan

Despite tight budgets and uncertain economic forecasts, demand for WSS services in Japan remains solid, the company said. Speaking after last week’s Bariship Japan event in Imabari, General Manager WSS Japan Yoshihiro Iizuka said that for ship-owners and vessel operators, a combination of increased regulation and continued pressure on budgets means that the cost of products and services is more crucial than ever. However, according to Iizuka, the company has seen steady demand for its services such as Life Raft Exchange program and Ships Agency Re-Defined.

WSS Reports Steady SARD Increase

Wilhelmsen Ships Services (WSS) General Manager for Japan Yoshihiro Iizuka said that he expects more customers to sign up for its Ships Agency Re-Defined (SARD) solution throughout 2013 and beyond as the company prepares for Bariship 2013. Mr. He added, “Japanese vessel operators and owners are positive about SARD because it guarantees efficient operation and fast turnaround. We ensure that our service experts make visits to customers on a timely basis to run evaluations on their time spent at each port. This enables us to improve our port operations in order to optimize the way we service our customers. WSS is investing in resources and expertise across North Asia to meet the increasing demands of this growing maritime hub.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service Strengthens Asia Pacific Team

Bjorn Tonsberg, Regional Vice President said: “We are reviewing the way we do things and rebuilding the organisation to meet the challenges that the next few years will bring. Constant improvements to better serve our customers are the only way forward. Part of the restructure comes from the appointment of Yoshihiro Iizuka as General Manager Japan, and Jason Chew as General Manager for China. Graham Hunter, former Business Director Marine Chemicals, will take up position as Technical Sales Director based in Singapore.
