Japan's First LPG-fueled LPG Carrier Named

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. held a naming ceremony at Sakaide Shipyard for the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)-fueled LPG carrier Crystal Asteria, which is being built for Kumiai Navigation (Pte) Ltd.The 229.9-meter newbuild is Japan's first dual-fuel LPG carrier, capable of running on both LPG and low-sulphur fuel oil. MOL Launches Iron Ore Carrier

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, has launched one of the world’s largest iron ore carrier, the Brasil Maru (327,180 MT DWT). Naming and delivery ceremonies were held at the Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Chiba Works on December 7, 2007. It will transport Brazilian iron ore to Japan under a long-term contract with Nippon Steel Corporation. The new ship is the third-generation of MOL vessels to carry the Brasil Maru name, succeeding the first-generation cargo and passenger liner Brasil Maru (built in 1939) and the second-generation cargo and passenger liner Brazil Maru (built in 1954), reflect the long history of the Japan-South America route. On hand for the ceremonies were Nippon Steel President Akio Mimura and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding President Yasuhiko Kato.

New Diamond Princess Delivered in Japan

In Nagasaki, Japan, the new Diamond Princess was named in a colorful ceremony which featured traditional Japanese festivities set against the state-of-the-art ship. The ship was delivered earlier in the morning to Princess Cruises by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), builders of the 116,000-ton vessel. Diamond Princess was named by Mrs. Yoshiko Tsukuda, wife of Kazuo Tsukuda, president of MHI. Dressed in a traditional kimono, Mrs. Tsukuda officially launched the ship in a ceremony that including such Japanese touches as a taiko drum performance, a traditional dragon dance and a Shinto-style blessing.
