Oil Tanker Quarantined in Antwerp After Crew Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Belgian port of Antwerp has quarantined a Maltese-flagged oil tanker until at least July 4 after more than half of its crew tested positive for COVID-19, the port authority said on Thursday.The Minerva Oceania was being held at the port's Leopold dock after 15 of its 26-person crew had returned positive tests, a port spokeswoman said in an emailed response.Two of the crew members who tested positive were in hospital but their condition was not serious, she said. The other crew were remaining on board and those with COVID-19 self-isolating in separate cabins.

Boluda Towage Retrofits Union Koala

The provider of towage services Boluda Towage Europe said that it's tugboat ‘Union Koala’ was officially certified for compliance with the IMO Tier III standards. The converted tug returned to service during a ceremony at the ABC Tower in Zeebrugge, Belgium."Boluda Towage Europe has passed a new milestone: it is the first towage company in Europe to convert an existing tugboat, complying with the IMO Tier III standards. Zeebrugge Port Deploy 5G Network

Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, will have its own private 5G network this year, disclosed the container, bulk cargo, new vehicles and passenger ferry terminal port in the municipality of Bruges.The port’s management will collaborate with Citymesh, which is the only operator to have a license for 5G networks in Flanders and Brussels."The private 5G network in the Port of Zeebrugge will be the accelerator for innovation in and around the port," the port said.The network’s brain is located in the port’s datacenter. This keeps all data safe within the port authority’s own network and makes it independent from external influences.In the first phase, the data network will be used for connectivity with tugboats, air pollution detectors, camera’s and quay sensors.

Shanghai Lingang Invests in Zeebrugge Port

Chinese investment by the Shanghai Lingang Overseas Development  in the port of Zeebrugge was officially signed in Brussels by Liu Jiaping, Chairman of Lingang, and Coens Joachim, CEO of Port of Zeebrugge.The agreement was signed in the presence of the prime minister of the People’s Republic of China, Ki Keqiang, and the prime minister of Belgium, Charles Michel.Port of Zeebrugge already announced the investment by the Chinese group Lingang in the Maritime Logistic Zone to establish a service and distribution park. Global LNG Price Slide Resumes on Weak Demand

Asian spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices for July fell this week on continued weak demand and ample supply. The price of Asian spot cargoes slid to $7.40 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), compared with around $7.70 per mmBtu last week. There was supply availability from Russia's Sakhalin export plant, which launched a tender to sell four cargoes spread across July, August and September last week. Sakhalin was also expected to shut down for a month long maintenance outage, although production will only be reduced by half during the period, a spokeswoman for Sakhalin Energy said. Jordan launched a tender earlier this week to buy a single cargo in mid-August. The bid submission deadline is June 15 and the award will take place by June 18.

Largest Container Ship at Zeebrugge Port

While on her maiden voyage in the AEX1 service, the container vessel China Shipping Container Lines Globe, currently the world’s - or the “globe’s”- largest container vessel, moored at the port of Zeebrugge. The ship embarked on its first voyage in China last December. The CSCL Globe measures 400 meters in length and is approximately 59 meters wide. Its stunning maximum capacity is 19.100 twenty feet equivalent units. Lining the containers up in a row would result in a container chain of 115 kilometers. The Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea will be delivering four sister vessels in the course of the year. The continuously growing dimensions in shipping allow freight to be transported more economically.

Zeebrugge Orders Seagoing LNG Bunkering Vessel

On May 13, 2014 Mitsubishi Corporation, GDF SUEZ and NYK signed a framework agreement aiming to develop the LNG bunkering market worldwide, in the context of international regulations that seek to reduce the impact of shipping activities on the global environment. This partnership now resulted in two concrete contracts: a joint order of an LNG bunkering vessel, the world’s first LNG bunkering vessel with the aim of providing LNG to LNG-fueled vessels; and also an LNG bunkering contract between GDF SUEZ and United European Car Carries (UECC)…

UASC Introduces New Asia - Europe Network

Cold Ironing Beneficial for Regular Port Users

The Zeebrugge port authority and POM West-Flanders launched a study to investigate whether or not it is technically and financially beneficial to install onshore power supply facilities on the quays and on ships. The study was executed by the Ingenium bureau, who selected the ships that call on Zeebrugge regularly and stay in our port for longer periods of time. For 25% of the calls in Zeebrugge, the study concluded positively. This is about 10%of the ships in Port of Zeebrugge. The international regulations for sulphur emission control places restrictions on sea vessels in the North Sea and in the European ports. This stimulates ports, terminal operators and shipping lines worldwide to implement the needed technology.

CMA CGM Group Railroad Shuttle, Zeebrugge to Duisburg

The CMA CGM Group is pleased to announce the reinforcement of its intermodal offer with the introduction of a railroad service, connecting Zeebrugge’s port and Duisburg’s tri-modal hub, which started mid-June.   This fifth shuttle, the only one on the market, completes CMA CGM’s intermodal offer. Already linked to the CHZ Terminal at Zeebrugge 4 times a week, the D3T Terminal at Duisburg is now connected to Zeebrugge’s APMT terminal thanks to this new service.

CMA CGM Christophe Colomb Calls at Le Havre

The CMA CGM Group’s flagship and the world’s largest French-flagged containership became the 100th vessel of more than 10,000 teus to call at Le Havre. The Christophe Colomb is first in a series of eight vessels named after explorers. The vessel is 1,199 ft long with a beam of 168 ft – equivalent to four football pitches. She can transport up to 13,800 teus. The CMA CGM Christophe Colomb is deployed on the FAL 5 (French Asia Line), the main CMA CGM Group service on the Asia-Europe trade, calling at Le Havre every week with the following rotation: Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Le Havre, Rotterdam (inbound), Hamburg, Rotterdam (outbound), Zeebrugge, Port Kelang, Singapore and Ningbo.

CMA CGM Group Takes Delivery of Corte Real

CMA CGM Group took delivery this morning, Monday August,16th, in South Korea of the CMA CGM Corte Real (13,830 teu) built by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering), the third of a series of eight vessels named after the great explorers. CMA CGM Corte Real (365 meter long, 51,2 meter large and 15.5 meter draught) is up to date the largest vessel sailing under the UK flag, a European flag which is part of the white list of the “Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control” a guarantee of safety, security and environmental protection. The vessel will join the CMA CGM Christophe Colomb and CMA CGM Amerigo Vespucci on the FAL5 service (French Asia Line) linking Asia to North Europe.

Rickmers’ Maersk Edinburgh Maiden Call in Hamburg

The largest Rickmers ship ever to call in the Port of Hamburg arrived at the Burchardkai Terminal on the late evening of Friday, 13 August. The 13,100TEU Maersk Edinburgh, which was christened Pearl Rickmers by Nina Ruge in South Korea on 2 July, was built for the Rickmers Group by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and is now on a ten-year charter to Maersk Line. In a small ceremony on board, Port Captain Jörg Pollmann presented Capt. Jerzy Priadka with the Admiralty coat-of-arms of the Port of Hamburg to commemorate the maiden call and wished the ship and its crew welcome to Hamburg.

Even for Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world’s largest shipyard group, it was a remarkable occasion. In a quadruple naming ceremony at HHI’s Ulsan shipyard on July 2, Rickmers Group christened four ultra-large container ships (ULCS) of 13,100 TEU each. Each of the four ships, Pearl Rickmers, Ruby Rickmers, Aqua Rickmers and Coconee Rickmers, has a service speed of 24.3 knots. They have been chartered longterm to Maersk Line and will join Maersk’s “E-class” as Maersk Edinburgh, Maersk Emden, Maersk Eindhoven and Maersk Essen.

CMA CGM Takes Two New Vessels

The CMA CGM Group announced the delivery of the CMA CGM LAMARTINE (6,500 TEU) and CMA CGM CALLISTO (11,400 TEU) in . Built by Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Co shipyards, the CMA CGM LAMARTINE (6 500 TEU) is deployed on the Asia-Mediterranean market on the MEX (Mediterranean Express) service. The vessel started its rotation today in Yokohama. Itsrotation will be as follows: , , , Kwanyang, , , , Chiwan, Hong Kong, Port Kelang, , , , , Fos, , , , , Khorfakkan, Port Kelang, Chiwan, . The CMA CGM Group also took delivery today in of CMA CGM CALLISTO (11,400 TEU). Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyards, the vessel is the third of a series of 12 vessels of 11,400 TEU ordered by the CMA CGM Group. They will be delivered between 2010 and 2011.

CMA CGM Group took delivery on July 22, in South Korea, of the CMA CGM Amerigo Vespucci (13,830 teu) built by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering). The second of a series of eight vessels named after the great explorers, the vessel is the sister ship of the CMA CGM Christophe Colomb and has the following dimensions: 1,197.5 ft long, 168 ft large and 50.8 ft draught. CMA CGM Takes Delivery of CMA CGM Leo

The CMA CGM Group announced the delivery in South Korea of the CMA CGM Leo (11,400 TEU). Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyards, the CMA CGM Leo is the fifth of a series of 12 vessels of 11,400 TEU ordered by the CMA CGM Group and that will be delivered between 2010 and 2011. This new giant of the seas, registered in Valetta, will be one of the largest containerships sailing under Maltese flag. One other vessel of the Group to be delivered soon will also be registered in Malta, a European flag which is part of the white list of the “Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control” a guarantee of safety, security and environmental protection. CMA CGM Group has been present in Malta for many years and operates the Malta Freeport Terminal.

Zeebrugge Traffic Up 6.6%

Total traffic through Zeebrugge port rose by 6.6 percent to 26.67 million tons in the first nine months of 1999. At the end of the year it expected total traffic to rise to 35 million tons versus 33.4 million tons in 1998. "On the basis of these interim figures we can see that 1999 will be an absolute record year," port management said in a statement, noting that traffic rose by more than 20 percent over the past three years. Port management said that while RoRo traffic posted the least growth in the first nine months of 1999 there were signs of a pick-up due to an improvement in the British economy. New car shipments grew strongly, rising by 114,000 tons to 661,000 since January. Shipments were seen rising to over one million by the end of the year.

Exmar Applies for Domain Concession for Construction of LNG

Exmar has applied to MBZ, the Zeebrugge Port Authority, for a domain concession for the construction of a discharging and ship-to-ship transfer installation for LNG and high pressure natural gas in the Port of Zeebrugge (Belgium). Zeebrugge. Belgian and European gas markets, EXMAR wishes to build a new discharging and ship-to-ship transfer infrastructure in the Port of Zeebrugge. This infrastructure will be fully compatible with that already existing and will further strengthen the position Belgium commands as a supply and transit country for natural gas in Europe. For the construction and development of the new infrastructure, EXMAR is working closely together with such companies as Ondernemingen Jan De Nul (dredging), Praxair, Jacobs Engineering, ERM and ECOLAS.
