Dutch Offshore Service Firm Designs Renewables-powered Semi-submersible Mussel Farm

OOS Group, a Dutch-based offshore services company, known to Offshore Engineer readers for its semi-submersible heavy lift crane and accommodation vessels, has developed a semi-submersible mussel farm (SMF) to grow mussels in the North Sea. The SMF will also feature solar panels, wind turbines, and tidal turbines."Mussels are traditionally grown in sheltered waters such as the Oosterschelde and the Waddenzee. However, due to a lack of nutrition in these waters, the production of mussels has declined enormously.

Borssele III & IV: Giant Dutch Offshore Wind Farm Fully Commissioned

Borssele III & IV, one of the largest offshore wind farms in the Dutch sector of the North Sea, has reached full commissioning, Van Oord a partner in the Blauwwind consortium behind the 731.5 MW wind farm's development, said Thursday.Blauwwind is a consortium between Shell, Partners Group, Eneco, DGE and Van Oord.Located 22 kilometers off the Dutch coast and the Province of Zeeland, the wind farm is capable of powering 825,000 Dutch households with electricity. On 1 December 2020, Ingrid Uppelschoten Snelderwaard will take up the role as global COO of Svitzer A/S, reporting to CEO Kasper Friis Nilaus. She will be based in Copenhagen.Uppelschoten Snelderwaard joins Svitzer from her current position as Global Head of Equipment and VP at Maersk and takes over from Svitzer’s current COO, Leonardo Sonzio, who will be moving on to become Maersk's Head of Fleet Operations.Uppelschoten Snelderwaard holds a degree in Economics and Languages from Hogeschool Zeeland, and a degree in Business Management from Nyenrode University in the Netherlands.

Palfinger Delivers Jetty Cranes for Borssele 1 and 2 OWF Base

Crane specialist Palfinger has recently won an order to deliver two jetty cranes at the maintenance base in The Netherlands for Ørsted's new Borssele 1 and 2 offshore wind farms (OWF) in the Dutch North Sea.While the wind farm is still under construction, the 2,100 sqm maintenance base in Vlissingen has already started operations, and Palfinger's cranes have now been installed."The installation of the two reliable PTM600 telescopic boom cranes is completed, and operations have recently started.

VDL Wins TenneT Gig

European transmission system operator TenneT has awarded VDL Network Supplies a contract to support the construction of half of the wintrack pylons (high-voltage pylons) for a new 380 kV high-voltage connection from Borssele to Rilland.The new pylons, which are some 60 to 80 meters high, will be produced by VDL KTI in Mol (Belgium). The high-voltage pylons will be supplied between early 2021 and late 2022 and erected on the TenneT route between Borsele and Rilland in the province of Zeeland.The high-voltage lines that connect the pylons will transport electricity originating from wind farms off the coast of Zeeland, which are due to be completed this year and next year.Project Manager Nicolien Vrisou van Eck from TenneT said: “We have every confidence in our partnership with VDL.

Orsted Opens Borssele 1&2 O&M Base

The global leader in offshore wind Ørsted has opened the operations & maintenance (O&M) base for the Borssele 1 + 2 offshore wind farm in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. The opening was organized together with Energy Port Zeeland.All construction work and maintenance will be coordinated from the new base, which is located in Vlissingen-Buitenhaven at the North Sea Port. Dutch Seaports Hit Record Volumes

Dutch seaports processed a record volume of goods in 2018 as the throughput of containers increased the most, reported the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the total volume of incoming and outgoing cargo shipments to and from Dutch seaports reached a historic high of almost 605 million tonnes in 2018."This is an increase of over 1.5 percent relative to 2017. At 4.5 percent, container transhipment saw the highest increase," CBS said.Two-thirds of cargo handling in Dutch seaports consisted of unloaded goods in 2018. Three-quarters of these goods concerned dry bulk (ore, coal and agricultural products) or liquid bulk (crude oil and petroleum products). Incoming container shipments increased by 6 percent.

North Sea Port Receives the First Ship Balao

The ship Balao docked at Verbrugge Terminals in Vlissingen, in North Sea Port, carrying a cargo of fruit. This was the first ship to arrive as part of this logistical service provider's first permanent intercontinental shipping line.The ship was carrying fruit such as bananas and pineapple, among other things. In this line, goods will be loaded in Cartagena and Santa Marta, Colombia and in Puerto Limón, Costa Rica. From South America, the ships will then sail to the European ports of London, North Sea Port and Rotterdam.For Verbrugge, this is the first intercontinental shipping line to be handled at this port. Each week, ships from the shipping companies Streamlines and Hapag-Lloyd will sail from South America to Vlissingen in North Sea Port.

Ørsted Hires NHV for Borssele Offshore Wind Farm

The Belgium-based NHV group, which is specialized in B-to-B helicopter services and has a strong geographic presence in Europe and Western Africa, said that it has signed new contract with Ørsted to provide helicopter services in support of the Borssele 1+2 Offshore Wind farm.The oil and gas industry focused helicopter services provider said that the operations are expected to start in May 2020. Van Oord Contracts Tekmar Borssele 2 Offshore Wind Project

North Sea Port Opens Netherlands' Largest Solar Park

The Scaldia solar park officially opened in North Sea Port, the logistical heart of Europe. ESVAGT Orders Two SOVs from Havyard

Danish shipowner ESVAGT and offshore wind farm developer MHI Vestas have sealed long-term contracts for the delivery of two new service operation vessels (SOVs) for separate wind farms off the Netherlands and the U.K.The wind farm service vessels will work the fields Borssele 3-4, located 22 km off the coast of Zeeland in the Netherlands, and Triton Knoll, which is 33 km off the coast of Lincolnshire in England, which together will produce 1,600 MW green energy from 2021. An option for an additional SOV for servicing the farm Moray East off the U.K. is also included.

Netherlands to Ban Degassing on Inland Navigation Vessels

"The Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Van Nieuwenhuizen wants the degasification ban to be introduced in the Netherlands by mid-2020," said the statement. A taskforce will be set up in order to ensure in partnership with the business community that the introduction of this national degassing ban runs smoothly. Port of Amsterdam is one of the organisations that will be participating in this process. This marks another step in our liveability programme: a clean and safe port region for local residents and businesses. Boskalis Bags Netherlands Projects of EUR 200 mi

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has over the last couple of weeks acquired a number of medium sized and various smaller projects in the Netherlands with a combined contract value of more than EUR 200 million. Today, Boskalis was awarded the project for the expansion and doubling of the N62 road (Tractaatweg) in the province Zeeland. Preparations are due to start in spring 2017 and the project will be completed in the spring of 2019. The project carries a contract value of approximately EUR 30 million. Also today, the Dutch Directorate General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) announced that it intends to award the contract for the canal expansion Twentekanalen phase 2 to the combination Boskalis and Van den Herik.

Eneco Consortium Wins Borssele III&IV Tender

The consortium of Eneco, Diamond Generating Europe, Shell and Van Oord has won the tender for the construction and operation of Dutch offshore windfarms Borssele III & IV. The preferred supplier for the wind turbines is MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. Winning the tender is a confirmation that the primarily Dutch based members of the consortium are committed and determined to push the energy transition forward in the Netherlands and the important role that offshore wind needs to play in it. Members of the consortium expect that work for the build and exploitation of Borssele III & IV will have a positive impact on local economy. The consortium will not disclose any further details regarding its bid.

Dutch Ports to Appeal EC Tax Decision

The Port of Rotterdam Authority, together with the Amsterdam Port Authority, Groningen Seaports, the Moederdijk Port Authority, the Port of Den Helder and Zeeland Seaports, is going to appeal against the decision of the European Commission which states that Dutch sea ports must pay corporation tax from January 1, 2017. Dutch "Disappointed" with EU Port Tax Edict

The Dutch Finance Ministry said on Thursday it was "disappointed" with an EU Commission order to do away with corporate tax exemptions for six ports, including Rotterdam, Europe's largest. The measure puts the Netherlands at a disadvantage, the government said in a statement, calling on the Commission to ensure fair competition. European Union regulators told Dutch authorities on Thursday to scrap a corporate tax exemption for the ports and also ordered Belgium and France to align their port taxation systems with the bloc's state aid rules. "The Commission's decisions today regarding the Netherlands, Belgium and France make clear that if port operators generate profits from economic activities these should be taxed," European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said.

Fugro to Investigate Wind Farm Sites

Fugro and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, have signed two contracts to investigate the Borssele wind area, off the Zeeland coast. The workscope includes measuring meteorological and oceanographic conditions and performing geophysical investigations of the seabed. Fugro will measure wind speeds at the future wind farm locations using its Seawatch Wind LiDAR , a device that uses laser beams to collect meteorological data from a floating buoy. This information is crucial for wind farm developers who use the data to calculate as accurately as possible the anticipated yield from the planned wind farms in the Borssele wind farm zone.
