Smart Sensor Mapping Breaks New Ground

Flicq Inc. an innovator in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions has announced that it has cooperated with Damen Shipyards in remote monitoring. The project has involved mapping smart sensor data from many sources to have a uniform view of a vessel’s health. Additionally, Flicq sensors have been deployed on Damen connected vessels.In September 2018, Damen posed their sensor mapping challenge at the Vodafone Ziggo/TNW IoT Challenge. Retrofit VDRs for Diamond S Tanker Fleet

Danelec Marine and global distributor Mackay Marine are nearing completion of a Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) retrofit program for Diamond S Shipping’s fleet of 30 medium-range product tankers. Mackay is installing Danelec’s new-generation DM100 VDRs on the ships as replacements for the existing VDRs, which had been installed at construction. The original products were nearing the end of their service life and were becoming very expensive to maintain. The type-approved DM100 exceeds the regulatory requirements and incorporates new features not previously available in marine VDR systems…

New from Bosch Rexroth are standalone axes with identical servo-drives for actuators with mechanical or hydraulic force transmission, offering new degrees of freedom for machine manufacturers in finding drive solutions that suit specific application requirements. The versions with hydraulic transmission are provided with their own, decentralized fluid circuit. The installation, commissioning and connection to controls and Industry 4.0 environments via a Multi-Ethernet interface or ProfiBus are identical on both variants.

ABS Launches Guide for Container Shippers

Class Society builds on long history of developing tools to drive optimization, compliance and safety in the containership sector. ABS released two new tools specifically focused on assisting the containership sector with pressing operational challenges. Danelec Marine's Conversion Kits for VDR Retrofits

Danelec Marine is now offering a comprehensive range of conversion kits to facilitate replacement of existing shipboard Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs). The company has created packages to replace more than 30 different models of VDRs and Simplified VDRs (S-VDRs) across all major existing and legacy brands, making it easy and less costly for shipowners to upgrade to the new technology. “Many ships are still equipped with VDRs and S-VDRs that were installed more than 10 years ago to meet the initial IMO carriage requirements,” said Danelec Marine CEO Hans Ottosen.“These systems are nearing or beyond their projected service life, and some are no longer in production or supported by their original manufacturers.

Danelec to Supply VDRs for Maersk Newbuilds

Danelec Marine informs it has received orders to supply new-generation Danelec DM100 Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs) for 27 new Maersk containerships, which are being built at shipyards in China and Korea. The newbuild VDR orders follow on a fleet retrofit contract awarded last year, under which Danelec is replacing the existing VDRs and Simplified VDRs (S-VDRs) on 100 Maersk vessels with the new DM100 technology. These retrofits are expected to be completed this year. Each of the new Maersk ships will also be fitted with a Danelec Marine VDRConnect module for remote downloads of VDR data at shore offices using Danelec’s VDR OnDemand software tool. VDR OnDemand is a portal and dashboard that allows authorized shore offices to log on and request specific data sets from the VDR via an IP link.

KR Upgrades KR-CON with Dangerous Goods Search Function

Classification society Korean Register (KR) announced the release of its latest KR-CON software. The essential software tool, now in its 14th edition includes an enhanced and increasingly critical dangerous goods program, which has been developed in-house, as one of its key functions. KR-CON offers a comprehensive electronic database of International Maritime Organization (IMO) instruments, providing all of the latest IMO Conventions, Codes, Resolutions and Circulars. By simply inputting a ship’s particulars, KR-CON allows the user to find all of the regulations relevant to a specific task and helps to ensure that all of the IMO requirements are applied correctly.

SENER Signs a Contract with ASC for FORAN

The SENER engineering and technology Group has signed a contract with Australian shipbuilder ASC for the implementation of the shipbuilding CAD/CAM System FORAN, developed by SENER, to be used as the software tool in the stability calculations supporting the construction of the Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD) conducted by the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance. The execution of this contract began with an initial training in the Naval Architecture Module of FORAN, which took place at the Maritime Skills Centre at Techport Australia.

Seagull Maritime has launched an advanced software tool able to benchmark seafarer knowledge levels, allowing shipowners and operators to compare their crew and potential recruits with industry peers. Braemar Engineering Tests DP Software Tool

(Press Release) Braemar Engineering said its new Second Failure Module dynamic positioning DP software has been installed on a client’s vessel. Bureau Veritas’ Optimize RAM software was used to assess the regasification installation performance and ensure the send out target requirement set by the project was met.
