New LCO2 Cargo Tank Design Gets KR Approval

KR (Korean Register) has granted an approval in principle (AIP) for a liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) cargo tank design, developed by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), during this weeks Gastech conference in Singapore.This AIP is the result of a joint project involving the three companies: HMD designed the cargo tank, HD KSOE conducted an engineering critical assessment (ECA), and KR ensured the design’s suitability by reviewing classification rules and international regulations.The demand for LCO2 carriers is projected to rise…

MOL Sees Cow Manure as Path to Slash Vessel Emissions

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. Global hyperloop pioneer Virgin Hyperloop One elects Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem as Chairman and Jay Walder as CEO as company leverages new round of funding to begin implementation of hyperloop from Pune to Mumbai.Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem is the Group Chairman and CEO of DP World. IMO Workshop on Secure Shipping in Asia

Shipping forms the backbone of world trade, transporting around 80% of global trade by volume. No other method of mass transportation is as cost-effective or fuel-efficient.Each day, around 50,000 merchant ships deliver the things people need and want – from food, to clothes, fuel, raw materials, electronics, medication and more. The security of maritime trade is therefore paramount to people all over the world.One way in which International Maritime Organization (IMO) supports maritime security is through targeted workshops supporting countries to implement IMO measures. Three Maritime Leaders Receive United Seamen's Awards

Arthur E. Imperatore, Founder and President of New York Waterways; Captain Donald Marcus, International President of the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots; and Christopher Wiernicki, Chairman, President and CEO of the American Bureau of Shipping, were recipients of the maritime industry's most prestigious Admiral of the Ocean Sea awards presented at the 47th annual United Seamen's Service gala industry dinner and dance October 28, 2016. The event was held at the at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, New York City. Recognition was also given to American seafarers for specific acts of bravery and heroism while at sea. Organizations that own, use or transport high value assets recognise the need to protect their goods and employees, especially when they are at their most vulnerable - when in remote or isolated situations, at night and when operating alone. By their very nature, trucks, trains, ships and oil rigs are all potential targets for criminal organisations. Furthermore, monitoring systems, early warning and deterrent technology have not been available to address this need at a remotely affordable cost.

EU R&D Project to Exhibit Security Model

A practical demonstration of the ARENA R&D project, part funded by the EU, will be delivered at Sagem’s premises in Massy, Paris on April 16, 2014. ARENA (Architecture for Recognition of thrEats to mobile assets using Networks of Affordable sensors) was developed to enable the automatic detection and recognition of threats against mobile critical assets such as trucks, trains and ships, as well as offshore platforms. ARENA uses multisensory data analysis and will be showcased by the project team using a truck.

CCG Among Winners at the JEC Asia Conference

CCG with partners UES Malaysia and Vee-Tek Australia Epoxy will be given an award in the sector of Raw Materials at the JEC Asia Composites Show & Conferences in Singapore, June 2013. Composite solutions are successfully used in the auto, aircraft and marine industry, as well as in the fields of mass transportation, construction and wind energy. The development is ongoing and new solutions are continuously announced. One of them will be presented at the JEC conference in June. The task was to develop an infusible epoxy resin of high strength properties and with excellent FST capability. CCG teamed up with UES Malaysia, excelling in the construction of composite military vessels, and the Australia-based epoxy manufacturing company Vee-Tek.

Reckless Shipowners Rapped by IMO Prizewinner

In his acceptance speech Admiral Efthimios E. Mitropoulis is critical as he accepts the IMO International Maritime Prize. The popular Admiral (known as EEM) made the speech at the recent ceremony awarding him the IMO Maritime Prize for 2011 at MO Headquarters, London. "Shipping, we all know, is a service industry. With the exception of the cruise liner sector and passenger ships on domestic service, it is there in order to serve the needs of trade. The bigger the needs of the latter, the more shipping finds itself in demand, the more it prospers – provided, of course, that there exists, at any given time, a reasonable and manageable ratio between supply of shipping tonnage and demand for shipping services.

Regulation shapes the workboat industry perhaps more than any other single factor. This regulatory seascape includes a myriad of onerous and ever-changing rules. A ‘SITREP’ on those choppy waters is therefore in order. Last December, the Coast Guard closed the public comment period following its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) requiring nearly all towing vessels to obtain Certificates of Inspection under Subchapter M of CFR 46. Military Uses for High-Speed Vessels

These uses include leisure travel and tours and mass transportation of passengers and vehicles. Linking Fast Ferries into the Public Transport Network
