THE Alliance Welcomes HMM

The members of THE Alliance, Hapag-Lloyd, Ocean Network Express, and Yang Ming have welcomed Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) as a new core member of THE Alliance.With the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) acceptance of HMM membership, THE Alliance offers an attractive upgraded product package and it will be launched around April 1st, 2020.Based on the existing comprehensive network of THE Alliance, the newly en-hanced product package will offer increasing frequency particularly from South East Asia, as well as new direct port coverage and improved transit times.Now that HMM joined The Alliance, its new offering for 2020 will consist of 33 services, 280 ships and a coverage of 78 ports globally.

Mjølner, MID-SHIP Partner for Product Solutions

Mjølner Shipping Holdings LLC and MID-SHIP Capital LLC has announced the expansion of their joint venture with the launch of their second fund, Mjølner Product Solutions LLC.Mjølner Shipping Holdings LLC (“Mjølner”) and MID-SHIP Capital LLC (“MID-SHIP”) has announced the successful closing of a product tanker-focused investment fund, Mjølner Product Solutions LLC (“Product Solutions”), a Marshall Islands company.Product Solutions was formed to provide investors with efficient access to vessel trading exposure in the product tanker market and follows the crude tanker fund launched by the joint venture in 2017. Mjølner and MID-SHIP will provide all services pertaining to Product Solutions, including commercial management, risk management, finance and investor relations.

UV-C Keeping Ship Hulls Free from Biofouling

The presence of biofouling on the hull of a ship increases the drag from the water during sailing and thereby the fuel consumption, which results in increased CO2 emissions as well as increased costs for the ship owner. Paints applied to the underwater areas on the hull of ships therefore often contain biocides to hinder biofouling growth or possess non-stick properties, allowing a release of the fouling when the vessels pick up speed.AkzoNobel is working with Royal Philips to…

BWMS with Automatic Filter Receives USCG Certificate

Technology enterprise Boll & Kirch said one of its product innovations, the Bollfilter Automatic Type 6.18.3, recently helped SunRui Marine Environment Engineering, based in Qingdao, China, qualify for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) certificate. Since the beginning of 2016, ballast water management systems (BWMS) of ships discharging ballast water at American ports have had to comply with special USCG regulations. SunRui's BalClor BWMS system, which relies on Boll & Kirch's innovative ballast water filtration technology, has now been certified by the authority.

TMS Expands Environmental Compliance Training

Total Marine Solutions “TMS” launched a new training program to address the growing need for comprehensive environmental compliance training in the maritime industry. The “Culture of Compliance” training program has already been launched fleet wide by major international shipping companies. “Compliance with maritime environmental regulations is one of the main obstacles facing our industry,” said TMS president Alexandra An agnostis-Irons. Non-compliance with environmental regulations continues to plague the maritime industry, despite the fact that costs and legal consequences of non-compliance are becoming more severe. The ‘Culture of Compliance’ Training program addresses not only the existing regulations, but also best practices in compliance and record keeping.

Freudenberg acquires Vector Technology Group

Freudenberg Oil & Gas expands its position and expertise in the upstream segment of the oil and gas market with innovator in offshore sealing solutions. Freudenberg Oil & Gas announced that on January 11, 2013, 100% of the shares of Vector Technology Group, a major global supplier of high integrity sealing solutions for the oil and gas industry, were acquired by parent company Freudenberg Group, headquartered in Weinheim, Germany. The Series 44M with the AM propeller design is suitable for applications from engine room exhaust to cargo hold ventilation fans. The new die-cast aluminum propeller has been specifically engineered to enhance the operating performance of their Series 44M Ductaxial fan. The Series 44M with the new AM propeller is available in sizes 12 to 48 inches and produces up to 65,000 CFM and up to 4 inches of static pressure. The Series 44M with the AM propeller design is available for use in a variety of hostile environment applications, from engine room exhaust to cargo hold ventilation, in offshore oil rigs or workboats. Cummins Announces EPA Tier 3 Marine Solutions

Minimax Minifog Nominated for Award

Minimax has been nominated for the Seatrade Awards 2009 with its Minifog marine XP. The new, efficient high-pressure water mist extinguishing system, meeting the current IMO guidelines, was listed in the Safety at Sea category. Seatrade Awards recognize innovative product solutions for safe, efficient and environmentally friendly shipping. The judging panel consists of ten international experts including their chairman, Efthimios Mitropoulos, General Secretary of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The 21st Seatrade Awards ceremony is being held in London in May 2009.
