Shapoorji Pallonji Energy Secures ABS AiP for Next-Gen FPSO Hull Design

Shapoorji Pallonji Energy Pvt Ltd (SP Energy) said Monday it had obtained a Class Approval-in-Principle for the Concept and Design Basis of its FPSO Newbuild Hull from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). SP Energy has been working on the concept design of ‘STERLING STREAMLINE’, described as a new generation of its standardized newbuild hull concept design for large FPSOs, since July this year. According to SP Energy, the new FPSO hull will be designed for a circa 33-year lifespan with a topside capacity of up to 65,000 MT of wet weight.

Independent finance and capital structuring partner RCP Finance has successfully secured a $15 million credit facility from a leading Asian lender for The Hawks Pvt Ltd., a distributor of high-quality fuel in the Maldives.The Hawks caters to a range of local businesses including resort hotels, super yachts and navy vessels, with a total portfolio of more than 452 clients.Part of the credit facility has been used to facilitate the acquisition of the Bro Developer, a 2007 oil and chemical tanker with a carrying capacity of 15,000dwt.

Ship classification society Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has classed India’s first LNG-FSRU.Built at Hyundai Shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea, the 180,000 cu.m, the Indian-flagged, is designed for continuous operations without the need for drydocking over a period of 20 years. CSL Launches 2 Ro Pax Vessels for IWAI

India's Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has launched two Ro Pax vessels designed and built for Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI).The vessels launched at present are the third and fourth vessels in the series of 10 vessels order from IWAI, said the largest shipbuilding and maintenance facility in India.Cochin Shipyard is building a total of 8 Nos. Ro Pax vessels and 2 Nos Ro-Ro vessels for Inland Waterways Authority of India.IWAI nominated CSL for the construction of these vessels, which will be operated in strategic locations in National Waterways 1&2. These vessels can accommodate around 200 passengers and will have 8 crews and can carry 2 trucks and 4 cars.

Norway Cautious on Indian shipbreaking

The Council on Ethics of the Government Pension Fund Global (Oil Fund), Norway's $1 trillion sovereign wealth fund (SWF), said that it will turn its attention towards Indian shipbreaking practices.The SWF cautioned that this may well result in further divestments from shipping companies with poor shipbreaking records.In 2018, the Council on Ethics had already advised the fund to divest from companies, including container line Evergreen, selling their end-of-life vessels to shipbreaking yards located in Pakistan and Bangladesh “due to an unacceptable risk that the companies are contributing to serious environmental damage and gross violations of human rights”.KLP, Norway’s largest private pension fund, followed suit and blacklisted the same companies.

Two Bangladeshi Workers Killed in Shipbreaking Yard

Two Bangladeshi workers were killed Monday in a fire that started in the engine room of an end-of-life tanker being dismantled at a shipbreaking yard in Chittagong, Bangladesh, the NGO Shipbreaking PlatformMd Jamil, 23 years old cutter man, and Bipul lost their lives while scrapping the ship GREEK WARRIOR (IMO 9191412) at Shagorika Ship Breaking Yard. According to local media, Jamil was burned and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. He died before reaching the hospital. Royal Vopak Rraises Stake in Pakistan LNG Terminal

Dutch petroleum storage company Royal Vopak announced that it will acquire in total 44% in Elengy Terminal Pakistan Ltd  (ETPL) in separate transactions with International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Engro Corporation Ltd (Engro Corporation). This includes the acquisition of a 29% share announced in July.ETPL's wholly owned subsidiary, Engro Elengy Terminal (Pvt) Ltd (EETPL) owns an LNG facility which is located in Port Qasim in Pakistan, adjacent to the Engro Vopak chemical terminal on the mainland side of the channel into Port Qasim.The facility has been in operation since 2015 and is the first LNG import facility in Pakistan.The facility consists of an LNG jetty including a 7.5 km high pressure gas pipeline.

Multi Modal Terminal on Ganga at Varanasi Nearing Completion

The USD 25 mln Multi Modal Terminal (MMT) being built at Varanasi by Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) under Jal Marg Vikas project is set to be completed by November this year. This would be a major landmark for the project.The construction of the USD 41 mln MMT at Sahibganj is to be completed by May, 2019, and the one at Haldia, being constructed at a cost of USD 75 mln, is scheduled to  be completed by December 2019. In addition to this the work on the USD 52 mln state-of-the-art navigational lock at Farakka is to  be completed By June, 2019. Contract for maintenance dredging in the Farakka-Kahalgaon stretch of the river  was awarded in April, 2018,  and work on this has started.

China Merchant Port Holdings Pays USD 584 mln to Hambantota Port

China Merchants Port Holdings (CM Port) has invested the final tranche of USD 584.2 million in Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port after acquiring an 85 percent stake in the port last year. The cheque to the effect was handed over to the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) – Dr.Parakrama Dissanayake by the Chief Representative of China Merchant Group in Sri Lanka - Mr.Ray Ren in the presence of senior port officials and representatives of CM Port. This makes the single highest ever Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) received by Sri Lanka to date. This third final tranche in the amount of US $ 584,194,800 follows the 1st, a 2nd tranches released in December last year and January 2018, in amounts US $ 292 million and US $ 97 million.

Several senior staff members have stepped up in the latest round of promotions at Goltens Worldwide. Goltens appointed Pravin Kirolikar to the position of Managing Director of Goltens Dubai. Kirolikar makes the move from Goltens India, where he served as Managing Director for eight years. Starting his career as a professional marine engineer, Kirolikar sailed for 13 years before going ashore to work as a marine surveyor for the Indian Register of Shipping. Prior to joining Goltens, Kirolikar worked in after sales services for Wärtsilä India for 12 years.
