MMA Tug Crew Honored

The master and crew of Maine Maritime Academy's tug boat, Pentagoet, were recently cited for outstanding service to fellow mariners in peril in a letter of appreciation from USCG Captain Harry E. Haynes, Commander, Group Southwest Harbor. The letter recognized Captain Tim Leach, master of the vessel; Harry Stevens, mate engineer; and Zander Parker, MMA student crew member, for their assistance to the Coast Guard in voluntarily responding to the aid of the disabled tug and barge, Mackenzie Ryan. Maine Maritime Academy President Leonard Tyler presented the letter to the master and crew in a special ceremony held last week during the college's daily morning formation.

Maine Maritime to Hold Celebration of Achievement

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy will honor its best and brightest at a ceremony to be held on the college campus in early November. The college will formally recognize alumni success and achievement, student academic success, and faculty achievement at its annual Celebration of Achievement on Thursday, Nov. In total, 16 individuals associated with the college will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments. teaching and academic commitment, student curiosity and scholarship, and alumni professional and civic success. Initiated in 1997, the college’s Wall of Honor was created to recognize alumni, who, through achievements in professional and civic life, have brought honor to themselves and to Maine Maritime Academy.

Maine Maritime Academy to Host International Symposium

Maine Maritime Academy will host the 3rd General Assembly of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) in late September at the Samoset Resort on the Ocean in Rockport, Maine, United States of America. pertaining to professional maritime training and education. A concurrent student program will be hosted at the Castine college. located throughout the world to the Sept. 23-26, 2002, events on the coast of Maine. Sponsored by The Nippon Foundation of Tokyo, Japan, IAMU was established as a non-profit organization in 1999 by seven maritime universities representing the various regions of the world. scientific and academic approach to maritime education and training.
