NOAA Honors MOL

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL)  is pleased to announce that the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary has honored MOL with an award for the company's participation in the 2016 Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) incentive program. Launched in 2016 by NOAA's Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District, Ventura County Air Pollution Control District, National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and Volgenau Foundation, the VSR program is a voluntary program that incentivizes containerships to slow down to speed at or below 12 knots, thereby reducing air pollution and enhancing protection of endangered whales in the Santa Barbara Channel.

MOL (America) Announces December KPI Results

MOL Liner Ltd. announces the December 2016 results of Regional Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in the Americas in the following categories:  customer service, and electronic data interchange (EDI). The results are available on a monthly basis and posted in greater detail at www.CountOnMOL.com. The results of the Shipment Management Center Customer Commitments are included. See table. *The target was modified from 20 seconds to 120 seconds, effective with January 2015. It was again modified to 90 seconds, effective with September 2015 and the establishment of the Shipment Management Center Customer Commitments. **The target has been increased from 90% to 95%, effective with January 2015. ***The target has been modified effective in January 2015. The target was previously ”within 72 hours”.

Armstrong Named VP MOL (America)

MOL (America) Inc. welcomed Ronnie Armstrong to the position of vice president, area operations. He leads MOL (America) Inc.’s vessel and equipment management, intermodal services, contract management, and cost control and planning groups for the United States and Canada and has functional accountability for operations in Mexico and the Caribbean. He reports to Richard Craig, President & CEO, MOL (America) Inc. Armstrong joins MOL (America) Inc. after 20 years in the container shipping industry, including experience serving as a head of intermodal operations along with responsibility for West Coast terminals. Armstrong earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of North Texas and has served on the board of directors for the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA)…

Craig Named President and CEO of MOL America

MOL Liner Ltd. has announced that Richard “Dick” Craig has been promoted to President and CEO of MOL (America) Inc. effective June 24, 2014. He has 34 years of experience in the container shipping industry including over 11 years with MOL. MOL Liner Ltd.’s President & Chief Executive Officer Toshiya Konishi said, “Dick was instrumental in bringing MOL (America) Inc. up to one of the most efficient and productive organizations within MOL Liner in the last 10-plus years. Checchi Named VP at MOL America

MOL (America) Inc. said that Michael Checchi will enter the position of vice president, area operations, where he will lead MOL’s equipment, intermodal services, contract management, and operations administration groups for the United States and Canada. He will report to Richard Craig, executive vice president for sales and operations. Checchi served as the director of intermodal operations for OOCL for the past 13 years where he directed rail and motor carrier services procurement. He has also served in various operations roles with Matson Intermodal System, Inc. and APL Land Transport Services. MOL America Announces Corporate Sales Changes

MOL (America) Inc. issued a release announcing several changes to its North American sales management, including the promotion of Richard Craig to the position of executive vice president, sales and operations. Additionally, Richard Jung, who currently assistant vice president of sales, central region, has been appointed to assume the duties of vice president of sales in replacing Dennis Sheehan, vice president of sales, who has decided to leave MOL (America) Inc. to pursue other opportunities.

Obama, Foxx Visit Major U.S. Port

U.S. President Barack Obama visited MOL’s TraPac Jacksonville terminal with U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx on July 25 as a part of his economic tour. President Obama and Secretary Foxx were met by TraPac General Manager Dennis Kelly, JAXPORT interim CEO Roy Schleicher and ILA representative Fred Wakefield, who escorted and briefed them during the visit. Following the visit, President Obama also delivered a speech in which he discussed the importance of port investment. “We’ve got to create more jobs today doing what you’re doing right here at JAXPORT,” the President said.

Transpacific Trade Organizational Changes

MOL has announced the following organizational changes which will take effect in August 2013. These changes will further build the MOL organization as one that customers and employees can continue to count on. Calvin Duffaut, assistant vice president, yield management and corporate communications for MOL (America) Inc. has been promoted to vice president, yield management of MOL Liner and will relocate to Hong Kong. Duffaut joined MOL in 2007 after many years of management experience in trade management, pricing and logistics with Pacer Stacktrain Ltd., American President Lines, and Lykes Bros. Steamship Inc. Duffaut holds an undergraduate degree from Yale University. He will report to Jotaro Tamura, senior vice president, liner yield management, equipment management and network operation.

Port of L.A. Recognizes Green Initiatives

The Port of Los Angeles honored 26 shipping and cruise lines for their participation in the Port’s Vessel Speed Reduction Program (VSRP), an initiative that involves the lowering of vessel speeds when ships approach the Port. The VSRP has resulted in significant decreases in diesel particulate matter, sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide emissions into the environment since it was established in 2001. For the first time, the Port also honored 12 ship carriers for their participation in the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), an international clean air program that rewards ocean carriers for bringing their newest and cleanest vessels to the Port.

MOL (Canada) Inc. to Serve Canadian Liner Market

Effective August 1, 2013, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. will begin operating in Canada as MOL (Canada) Inc. MOL (America) Inc. and Montship, Inc. today jointly announced that their liner agent agreement will expire on July 31, 2013. Montship has successfully represented MOL’s Canadian liner services for over 53 years and both MOL and Montship are pleased with the long-standing partnership. All other agent agreements between MOL’s non-liner divisions and Montship will continue without interruption. MOL will maintain its four existing weekly liner services to/from Vancouver and will start Asia/Halifax service from June 17. MOL Closing in on Steady 90% Performance Target

MOL (America) Inc. announce intermodal transit on-time performance results for January-March 2013. MOL’s overall intermodal transit on-time performance was 71% for January-March 2013, for the three origin ports in Asia, to the six inland destinations in the United States. MOL did not perform at or above the 90% target for any of the origin/destination combinations in January-March 2013. However, the result for the PSX to Memphis was 87% and the result for the PCX to Dallas was 86%. •    Late arriving vessels. PCX (three vessels at least 20 hours late and one vessel 87 hours late) and PSX (two vessels 40 hours late). •    Chassis shortages, shortened work weeks due to holidays, labor disruptions and increased IPI volume due to labor concerns.

MOL (America) Announce Intermodal Transit Performance Results

MOL (America) Inc. announce intermodal transit on-time performance results for April-June 2012. MOL’s overall intermodal transit on-time performance was 88% for April-June 2012 for the three origin ports in Asia to the six inland destinations in the United States being measured. Intermodal Transit On-Time Performance is among the regional key performance indicators (KPI) MOL discloses to customers on www.CountOnMOL.com. MOL performed above the 90% target for seven origin/destination combinations and was within one percent of the target for two other combinations. Performance was primarily impacted by four PCX vessels that arrived a shift or more late and one PSX vessel that arrived two shifts late.

In Memoriam of Gurrad of MOL

John A. Gurrad, MOL (America) Inc.’s former Vice President for Business Planning and e-Commerce, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Gurrad’s 37-year career in the shipping industry included 10 years at MOL as vice president in Concord, Calif. He joined MOL in August of 1998 and retired in October 2008. Gurrad was 68. Gurrad was a valued and highly respected member of the MOL Team, and directed MOL’s business planning activities, advertising and marketing communications, and business process management. Under his guidance, MOL received numerous industry awards for marketing and advertising excellence. Prior to joining MOL, Gurrad spent 19 years with APL (1979-1998) in Oakland, California, eventually serving as Assistant to the Chairman of the Board (1995-1998).

An joined MOL’s Atlanta office in 1997 as an account executive, and has since served in various sales assignments in the Southern and Midwest Regions, including import district sales manager of Chicago and sales manager (China sales) of Long Beach, CA. A CPA, An graduated from the University of Illinois in 1988 with a Master of Science in Accountancy. MOL N America HQ Relocation

MOL (America) Inc.’s North America Headquarters, which includes the Trade Management staff, announced that it has decided to relocate its Concord Headquarters to Lombard, IL. Noboru Kitazawa, President of MOL (America) Inc, said, ”The consolidation will allow for a greater synergy among the interactions between Trade Management and the Product Management Team (PMT) which is already located in Lombard.  This will improve our ability to optimize vessel and intermodal networks to enhance revenue and cost management, as well as broaden our employees’ career opportunities.” The relocation of staff into their current location in Lombard is scheduled for early August 2009. MOL, Changes to N America Sales Team

MOL (America) Inc.’s Product Management Team has announced changes to its North America Sales Management. Effective immediately, Dennis Sheehan, Vice President Atlantic Services will direct MOL’s sales activities in the US Northeast, Midwest and Southeast regions, while Jim Galligan, Vice President Pacific Services will lead sales activities in the US Western States and Mexico. In their new assignments both gentlemen will report directly to Thomas M. Kelly, Executive Vice president and Chief Operating Officer for North America Area Management. MOL’s Product Management Team also includes Stephen Ryan, Vice President North America Customer Service and Richard Craig, Vice President Area Operations.

Suzuki Retires from MOL America

After three years, Osamu Suzuki is retiring as the President/CEO and Chairman of MOL (America) Inc. Mr. Suzuki held numerous positions world-wide since joining MOL in 1973. His liner division experience began in 1984 when he became a Long Beach, California Representative. He served as General Manager of the Liner Division and Managing Director of MOL (Asia) before being appointed to MOL (America) Inc.’s top position in 2005. Suzuki accepted a post-retirement position as Executive Vice President of MOL Ferry Co., Ltd., Japan. Replacing Suzuki as MOL America’s new President/CEO and Chairman will be Noboru Kitazawa. A graduate of Tokyo University, Mr. Kitazawa is a 33-year MOL Liner veteran. He comes to the U.S.

MOL’s Lucas Promoted to N.E. Export Sales Manager

MOL (America) Inc. is pleased to announce the promotion of Antonio Lucas to the position of Northeast Sales Manager, Export, MOL (America) Inc. Lucas is based out of the company’s Edison, N.J. office. His new responsibilities include direct sales, as well as management of sales activities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Lucas brings nearly a decade of sales and maritime industry experience to his new position. Prior to his recent promotion, Lucas held the position of import sales representative for MOL (America) Inc.

MOL Establishes New Panama Vessel Operation Center

MOL hosted a party to celebrate the grand opening of its new Panama Vessel Operation Center in Panama City, Panama on December 9, 2003. Some of the guests in attendance included: Mr. Joaquin Jacome, Minister of Commerce; Mr. Jerry Salazar, Minister of Canal Affairs; and Mr. Shuji Shimokoji, Ambassador of Japan. Considering Panama to be one of the world’s key maritime centers, the company established MOL (Panama) Inc. in May 2003, which is responsible for handling all commercial activities for MOL’s liner division in Panama. The responsibilities of MOL (Panama) Inc. were increased last month when it was named a regional office in charge of managing the activities of MOL’s Caribbean and Central America shipping agents.
