Mahoney Named President and CEO of Westwood Shipping Lines

Longtime Maersk executive Jack Mahoney has been named president and CEO of Westwood Shipping Lines, Inc., a Puyallup, Wash. based independent conbulk liner carrier in the north Transpacific trade. He succeeds Guy Stephenson who is retiring after 13 years in the role. Port Bronka, NBG Sign Agency Pact

The owner and operator of Port Bronka Fenix LLC St.Petersburg and NBG Nouschirvan Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH Hamburg have signed an agency agreement for the promotion of the most modern sea port in Russia.Port Bronka is the only deep-water port in St.Petersburg.The port handles container, project, break bulk and ro-ro cargo. The current capacity of the port is 500.000 TEU and 130.000 units of ro-ro cargo per year.The further development plan includes an increase in the container cargo capacity to 1.9 million TEU per year and ro-ro cargo – up to 200.000 units per year."The development of the port is very dynamic and enormously increasing.

Maersk Expands Online Platform Service Scope

Maersk Line takes further steps towards simplifying the supply chains of its customers by expanding the service scope on its online platform ship.maerskline.com to cover more major trades and addressing customers'pain points. The new scope on the platform will cover customers exporting from ports of Shanghai and Ningbo in Eastern China and Qingdao in North China, to all Mediterranean destinations; expanding from the current three Northern China ports (Qingdao, Xingang and Dalian) to West Africa, South Africa and East Coast South America. MPA Honors Patrick Phoon

Ocean transportation firm, “K” Line Pte Ltd, and Patrick Phoon, Deputy Managing Director of Evergreen Shipping Agency, received the International Maritime Centre (Corporate) Award and the International Maritime Centre (Individual) Award respectively. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has honoured ten industry partners who have made outstanding contributions to Singapore's development as a premier global hub port and a leading international maritime centre at the Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMA) 2017. The 23rd Annual International Maritime Hall of Fame reception and awards dinner took place yesterday evening in New York where five individuals were honored in front of more than 350 of their colleagues from the international maritime transportation industry. The Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey founded the Annual International Maritime Hall of Fame in 1993 to recognize maritime visionaries who, through excellence in their company, organization or services, best exemplify the qualities of futuristic thinking that guides the maritime industry.

Maersk’s SeaLand Sets Leadership Team

SeaLand, the newly founded intra-Americas regional carrier of the Maersk Group, announced today the appointment of its executive team which the company sais will fulfill its mission of delivering greater service stability and commitment, as well as a higher level of customer-focused service tailored to the customer’s needs. The new appointees are Alfredo Di Palma, Maria Batista, Shane Sawyer, Thiago Covre and Timothy Child, who will all be on board within the next two-three months, joining SeaLand CEO Craig Mygatt. Shanghai-based EasyCargo Acquired by Amber Road

Global trade management (GTM) solutions provider Amber Road has acquired EasyCargo, a Shanghai-based company in the same field specializing in complex Chinese trade regulations. EasyCargo is a cloud-based solutions company with a specific focus on a subset of global trade management called China Trade Management, or CTM. EasyCargo’s CTM solution provides extensive automation to support the Chinese government’s regulations for an import regime called Processing Trade. Processing Trade affects companies that import materials and components into China and use those materials and components to manufacture finished goods for export to foreign markets. When properly administered, Processing Trade transactions are exempt from import duties and value-added-taxes on export.

Transpacific Trade Organizational Changes

MOL has announced the following organizational changes which will take effect in August 2013. These changes will further build the MOL organization as one that customers and employees can continue to count on. Calvin Duffaut, assistant vice president, yield management and corporate communications for MOL (America) Inc. has been promoted to vice president, yield management of MOL Liner and will relocate to Hong Kong. Duffaut joined MOL in 2007 after many years of management experience in trade management, pricing and logistics with Pacer Stacktrain Ltd., American President Lines, and Lykes Bros. Steamship Inc. Duffaut holds an undergraduate degree from Yale University. He will report to Jotaro Tamura, senior vice president, liner yield management, equipment management and network operation.

It is impossible to view the global container shipping business without looking at it through the prism of vessel capacity being added to the market. What happens over the next two years will be a direct result of the glut of newbuildings that are flooding into service and wrecking freight rates. Just consider these numbers. During the first four months of 2013, Alphaliner puts the new containership deliveries at 496,000 TEUs. According to data supplied by PR News Service ComPort, almost 250,000 TEUs of that will be comprised of vessels with a nominal capacity of 10,000 TEUs and up.

Sappino Leaves APL After 29 Yrs

APL said today that 29-year veteran Bob Sappio, head of the shipping line’s PanAmerican Trades, will leave the company August 1 to remain in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sappio has been the head of APL’s Trans-Pacific Trade since 2003. He played a key role in establishing APL as the leader in the Trans-Pacific and in building its brand reputation for high-quality service in the industry, said Ron Widdows, CEO of parent company NOL Group. “I’ve devoted my entire career to APL – a company I have tremendous affection and respect for,” said Sappio, who joined the container carrier in 1982. MOL N America HQ Relocation

MOL (America) Inc.’s North America Headquarters, which includes the Trade Management staff, announced that it has decided to relocate its Concord Headquarters to Lombard, IL.
