Equinor Sells Its Oil Terminal in the Bahamas

Norwegian energy company Equinor announced it has entered into an agreement to sell its oil terminal in the Bahamas to Estonian logistics and investment business Liwathon. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.The South Riding Point oil terminal at the Grand Bahama Island, commissioned in 1973 was purchased by Equinor in 2009 to enable the company to trade oil primarily originating from the American markets. The facility comprises 10 large storage tanks with a capacity of 6.8 million barrels (1ā€¦

Crowley Wraps Salem Harbor Acreage Buy to Create Offshore Wind Port Terminal

Crowley has completed the purchase of 42 acres in Salem, Massachusetts, the latest milestone toward the development of the stateā€™s second major offshore wind port terminal.The Salem Harbor Wind Terminal is a public-private partnership between Crowley and the City of Salem, with AVANGRID serving as the portā€™s anchor tenant through its Commonwealth Wind and Park City Wind projects.The terminal will be a logistics and operations center for turbine pre-assembly, transportation, staging activities and storage of assembly components.

US Helps Fund Oakland Port Project

Plaquemines Port and APM Terminals Ink Operating Agreement

Plaquemines Port, Harbor and Terminal District (PPHTD) and APM Terminals have announced a Letter of Intent whereby APM Terminals will become the operator of the newly planned Container Terminal and Intermodal Rail Facility and external parties will be the investor in the new port. Plaquemines Port and their financial partners will manage the financial activities associated with the infrastructure development, investment, and ownership of the port.Governor of Louisiana John Bel Edwards applauded the announcement of the agreement.

Neele-Vat Logistics Sets-up at City Terminal

Europe's logistics services provider Neele-Vat Logistics and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a contract for the development of a distribution centre on the last vacant lot at the City Terminal site near Eemhaven (Heijplaat-Rotterdam).According to a press release, the logistics service provider will be using the new distribution centre for ā€˜cross-dockingā€™: unloading cargo from an incoming transport unit and combining it with other cargo which is then loaded onto an outbound transport unit. The entire process takes place with next to no need for interim storage.ā€œA number of major short sea shipping companies have told us that they see added value in a cross-dock facility.

Idled St. Croix Refinery to Restart, Produce Fuels by 2020

Owners of an idled oil refinery in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, which was once one of the world's largest refineries, plan to invest $1.4 billion to refurbish and restart a portion of the plant, they said on Monday. ArcLight Capital Partners, a private equity firm that owns 80 percent of Limetree Bay Terminals LLC, expects the former Hovensa plant to be able to process 200,000 barrels per day of crude and deliver fuels to market by January 2020, officials told a news conference in St. Croix. The Boston-based company spent two years studying the market and developed "a refinery profile we see thriving in the current marketplace," said John Erhard, an ArcLight partner. The refinery would supply low-sulfur fuels under an International Maritime Organization mandate that begins in 2020.

Port of Bronka Prepares for Opening

Technical plant and equipment installation for the first stage of Bronkaā€™s port facilities is now complete with the Liebherr LHM 800 mobile port crane installed at the end of September, bringing the port closer to operation. The deepwater Port of Bronka is located on the outskirts of St. Petersburg and lies on the Southern bank of the Gulf of Finland. Directly linked to the St. Petersburg orbital highway and the Russian rail network, the port features a multifunctional cargo handling facility comprising two terminals plus a logistics center.

SCPA Box Volumes Up; Leadership Realigned

On the heels of announcing its five-year growth, investment and cargo base expansion plans at the State of the Port, South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) reported a four percent increase in August container volumes over the same month last year. SCPA said it handled 170,528 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in August. With 345,751 TEUs moved during the first two months of the 2016 fiscal year, container volume is up 8.8 percent year-over-year. As measured in pier containers, nearly 97,000 boxes moved across SCPA docks in August. Fiscal year-to-date pier container volume is up 8.1 percent, with 195,703 boxes handled during the last two months. "August was a strong month across all business segments," said Jim Newsome, SCPA president and CEO.

MOL Renews Lease for LA Container Terminal

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Akimitsu Ashida) announced that its wholly owned terminal operator TraPac, Inc. (Headquarters: Los Angeles, California, U.S.) renewed its long-term lease contract for a container terminal at the Port of Los Angeles. The signing ceremony for the new contract was held on October 15, with participation by the Interim Deputy Mayor of the City of Los Angeles Romel Pascual. Under the new pact, the terminalā€™s total space will be extended to 1.3 times the current area. The number of berths will also increase.

Port of Tacoma Awards Largest Contract in its History

The Port of Tacoma has been awarded the largest single capital improvement contract in its history. ICON Materials of Kent, Wash., the low bidder, will manage construction of a new container terminal for Evergreen America Inc. The contract awards ICON $46.2 million to build the terminal and a dedicated intermodal yard. "This is the biggest project in Port history," said Port Commissioner Jack Fabulich. "While this new container terminal will be a foundation for the Port's future, it also provides a much-needed stimulus to the Tacoma-Pierce County economy.
