Alabama Shipyard to Repair MSC Tanker

World Marine of Alabama (WMA), a division of World Marine, LLC, competitively bid and won a contract to dry-dock and repair the USNS Lawrence H. Gianella (T-AOT-1125), a Military Sealift Command (MSC) tanker operated by Ocean Shipholdings, Inc. World Marine, LLC purchased all the assets of Signal International in December 2015, including the Mobile, Alabama-based shipyard. World Marine remains one of the safest shipyards in the country, with its Alabama facility boasting zero accidents for over 460 days, and an OSHA total recordable injury rate (TRIR) of 0.0 for 2015.

MSC Reconfigures Tanker Fleet

The fleet of tankers operated by the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command is being reconfigured to meet fuel requirements in support of U.S. forces worldwide. This seagoing force of government-owned and U.S.-flagged chartered ships is acquiring a new chartered ship, MT Empire State, as two government-owned ships complete their service to the command. MSC Ships Train to Support U.S. Troops Ashore

Two Military Sealift Command ships conducted a training exercise off the coast of Yeosu, South Korea, Aug. 17-18, where they rehearsed the U.S. military's unique ability to deliver fuel to ground forces ashore from a tanker anchored up to eight miles from the coast. The cornerstone of this capability is offshore petroleum distribution system ship MV Vice Adm. K.R. Wheeler - the only ship of its kind. Wheeler works as an at-sea pumping station to transfer fuel ashore from commercial and military tankers. The tanker pumps fuel to Wheeler, which in turn pumps the fuel to shore.
