Edda Wind Names Øverlie CFO

Norwegian offshore wind vessel owner Edda Wind announced it has appointed Hermann Hovland Øverlie as its new chief financial officer (CFO) following the resignation of Tom Johan Austrheim. Øverlie will join Edda Wind March 1, 2024.Øverlie is currently senior vice president of business development at Flex LNG and was previoulsy CFO at Amar Group. Øverlie has also extensive experience from financial/liquidity planning, risk management and financial analysis from Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers and DnB. He holds a master’s degree in financial economics from BI Norwegian School of Management.

Damen Wins Class and Flag States Approval for Methanol-fueled Workboats

Newcastlemax Bulker Delivered to Himalaya Shipping

Dry bulk shipping company Himalaya Shipping announced it has taken delivery of the fifth in a series of 12 dual-fuel 210,000 dwt Newcastlemax bulk carriers being built by New Times Shipyard.The vessel, Mount Matterhorn, will commence a 32- to 38-month time charter plus an option for 11 to 13 months and will earn an index-linked rate, reflecting a significant premium to a standard Capesize vessel, Himalaya said. Herman Senior Acquires ST Marine Support

Netherlands-based tug and workboat company Herman Senior has acquired all shares of maritime and offshore services provider ST Marine Support. The acquisition includes ST’s three existing vessels and their upcoming newbuild, a Damen Multi Cat 3313SD, which is expected to be delivered at the end of March this year. With the formal handover completed on February 23, the acquisition has come into effect retroactively as of January 1, 2023.With this agreement ST Marine Support becomes part of the Herman Senior group of companies, integrating both fleets.

Herman Sr. BV Places Order for Damen Shoalbuster

A contract has been signed between Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld and Herman Sr. BV for the building and delivery of a Shoalbuster 2308 S, to be named Teddy. The new vessel will join the five other Damen Shoalbusters currently operated by the company and, with the hull already available from stock, is due for delivery in March / April 2019. Dutch marine services provider Herman Sr. BV announced that it has agreed with Damen Shipyards Group to order the first of a newly-developed Damen Shoalbuster type with full DP2 capabilities. This will be the first of a new class within the Shoalbuster series and one of the largest available. The vessel will be built at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld.35 meters in length, nearly 14 meters wide and with a free deck space of 150m2, the Shoalbuster 3514 will be a substantial working platform.

Last Thursday, Damen Shipyards Gorinchem hosted the Damen group’s third annual Workboat Festival. The event brought together more than 200 customers, media and industry partners, and 34 workboats, for an afternoon of presentations, demonstrations, product displays and interactive exhibits.The workboats ranged in size from ten-meter Stan Launches and Stan Tugs up to a 72-meter Stan Pontoon. In between were Fast Crew Suppliers, Stan Pilots, Stan Patrols, additional Stan Launches and Tugs, plus an Interceptor and a RHIB.

Cincinnati schoolteacher Bryce Carlson set a record for the fastest solo unsupported west-east row across the North Atlantic ocean on Saturday and also became the first U.S. citizen to complete the feat.The 37-year-old landed at the port of St Mary's in the Scilly Isles, off the coast of south-west England, some 38 days six hours and 49 minutes after he set off from St John's in Newfoundland.The previous record for the solo west-east crossing was 53 days eight hours and 26 minutes set by Canadian Laval St.

When Trygve Westergard bought the 98- by 28-foot Judi B in the spring of 2016 he was entering a new chapter in a varied marine career. Growing up on a remote island off Ketchikan, Alaska as the third generation of Norwegian-Danish family, he had fishing in his blood and his environment. A stint at the California Maritime Academy earned him an unlimited masters license and a BS in marine transportation.After a decade of running everything from ferries to off-shore boats and filling the gaps with fishing, Westergard decided it was time to come home.

Star Bulk Carriers Completes Acquisition of 15 Dry Bulkers from Songa Bulk

Global shipping company Star Bulk Carriers, announced  that it has closed the previously announced acquisition of fifteen operating dry bulk vessels  from Songa Bulk  for an aggregate of 13.725 million common shares of Star Bulk  and $145.0 million in cash. Following the closing of the Vessel Purchase Transaction, (i) Arne Blystad will be appointed to the Board of Directors of Star Bulk as Class C Director and Herman Billung will join the management team of Star Bulk as Senior Vice President and (ii) Songa is expected to distribute the Consideration Shares to its shareholders. First trading day of the secondary listing of the Company’s common shares on Oslo Børs, a regulated stock market operated by Oslo Børs ASA of Norway, is expected to take place by mid-July.

Star Bulk Carriers Acquires Songa Bulk Fleet

Greece-based dry bulk shipping firm Star Bulk Carriers has entered into definitive agreements to acquire 18 dry bulk vessels in two all-share transactions. 15 of the vessels will be acquired from Songa Bulk and three of the vessels will be acquired from Oceanbulk Container Carriers. The consideration for the vessels was determined based on average vessel valuations by independent vessel appraisers. The Company has agreed to issue an aggregate of 13.725 million common and pay $145 million in cash for the acquisition of all of Songa’s 15 modern dry bulk vessels . The cash portion of the Songa consideration will be financed through proceeds of a new five-year capital lease of $180 million with China Merchants Bank Leasing with a margin of 280 bps…

Coco Vroon Steps Down as Managing Director

Coco Vroon is stepping down as CEO of Netherlands based shipowner Vroon Group, after having settled a credit agreement with the company's lenders. "Now that agreement has been reached with our Lenders in respect of the main terms of the financial-restructuring plans of Vroon Group, after long deliberation Coco Vroon has decided to step down as Managing Director of the Company," said a statement from the company. As shareholder, the new phase being entered by the Company affords him the opportunity to devote more time to the long-term development of the Company. Coco will leave his position per end-April 2018. He will remain closely involved and aims to continue creating value for the Group.
