HullWiper Hull Cleaning Comes to Qatar

Underwater hull cleaning specialist HullWiper Ltd is joining forces with GAC Qatar in preparation to launch its hull cleaning solution at the Qatari port of Ras Laffan in early 2020 to meet growing demand for eco-friendly hull cleaning solutions.GAC Qatar is the only company to have been granted a license by the country’s Environment Ministry to operate hull cleaning equipment in its waters.HullWiper’s Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) complies with Qatar’s regulations, which include collection of 100% of biofouling removed during cleaning for safe disposal at the Qatar Petroleum (QP) facility after a QP test, and the maintain proper cleaning records for monthly submissions to QP Environment office…

World’s First MAN B&W ME-GI Enters Service

Nakilat, in association with Qatari LNG producers Qatargas and RasGas Company Limited and engine manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo, recently celebrated the success of the ME-GI project involving the retrofit of chartered Q-Max vessel, Rasheeda, with a gas-burning M-Type Electronically Controlled – Gas Injection (ME-GI) System, which has now been successfully commissioned. The Qatari-owned Q-Max vessel is the world’s first low-speed marine diesel engine to be converted to use LNG as a fuel. The retrofit modification meets the current known and future stated global emissions regulations. Nakilat’s Rasheeda built in 2010 is a 266,000 m3 LNG carrier with two MAN B&W S70ME-C HFO-burning engines, which have been converted to the dual-fuel ME-GI concept.

Two Mooring Tugs Delivered to NSW

Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ) has delivered two new Qatari-built mooring tugs to towage operator Nakilat SvitzerWijsmuller (NSW). The delivery of the two ASD 2810 tugs is part of a seven-vessel order that the yard is currently working on for NSW. The first of the new tugs, named Umm Al Shubrum, completed sea trials in Ras Laffan in mid-January 2015. She was followed in February by the second vessel, Al Kharsaah. Both vessels will operate as part of Nakilat NSW’s growing fleet. NSW currently operates more than 30 vessels and performs 12,500 tug jobs per year.

First Two Mooring Boats Launched for Port of Ras Laffan

Nakilat has celebrated the delivery of two 16-meter mooring boats built by shipbuilder Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar for towage operator Nakilat Svitzer Wijsmuller. The built-in-Qatar vessels will be operated at the Port of Ras Laffan. Qatari Shipyard Delivers Tugboat in Large Milaha Contract

Qatari shipbuilder Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ) say they have delivered to Milaha the 32m-long tug 'Semesma', the eleventh vessel built in the State of Qatar by NDSQ to be utilized by Milaha at the Port of Mesaieed. ASD tug Semesma has a bollard pull of 80 tons and will be used for escorting vessels visiting the Port of Mesaieed. Qatar Champions LNG as Cleaner Marine Fuel

Nakilat, Qatargas and RasGas Company Limited will convert a Q-Max vessel as a pilot project making it capable of running on LNG and reducing the ship’s exhaust gas and greenhouse gas emissions. Qatari shipping company Nakilat and Qatari LNG producers Qatargas and RasGas Company Limited have agreed with engine manufacturer MAN Diesel and Turbo to convert a Q-Max vessel to use LNG as an alternative to heavy fuel oil in the main engines. The proactive initiative reinforces Qatar’s commitment toward the environment with plans to convert an existing low-speed diesel LNG carrier to use LNG as fuel thereby reducing the ship’s exhaust gas emissions.

Qatari Shipyard Lays Keels for Stan Tugs Pair

Qatari shipbuilder Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ) has laid the keels for two 16-metre long Stan Tugs, part of a seven-vessel order for marine services provider Nakilat SvitzerWijsmuller (NSW). A ceremony to mark this step in the shipbuilding process was held at NDSQ’s facilities located at Erhama bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in Qatar’s Port of Ras Laffan. The two twin-screw Stan Tugs have a bollard pull of 15 tonnes and will be used for mooring vessels visiting the Port of Ras Laffan.

N-KOM Drydock Receive First Qatargas Vessel

N-DSQ to Construct Qatar Naval Patrol Boats

Nakilat – Damen Shipyards Qatar (N-DSQ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement with the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces (QENF) for the construction and delivery of six Naval Patrol Boats at Nakilat’s shipbuilding facilities in the Port of Ras Laffan, Qatar. The military vessels will be used by the QENF to support its existing operations in the monitoring and surveillance of Qatar’s Economic Exclusive Zone, for coastal and offshore patrolling, search and seizure operations, and for anti piracy/hijacking operations.

Provision of Harbor Tugs, Port of Mesaieed

Nakilat, on behalf of Nakilat–Damen Shipyards Qatar (N-DSQ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar Petroleum for the provision of 19 vessels including harbor tugs, pilot and service boats at the port of Mesaieed. On October 15 2009, Qatar Petroleum’s Directorate, Mesaieed Industrial City, issued a tender for the provision of harbor tugs, pilot and service boats at Mesaieed Port. Jumbo Shipping Completes Pearl GTL Project

Jumbo Shipping has completed a two-year project for the Pearl GTL project of Qatar Shell GTL Ltd. From 2007 to November 2009, 24 reactors of 1,200 tonnes each have been transported to the Port of Ras Laffan. With 28,800 tonnes of heavy metal, Jumbo Logistics and Jumbo Shipping made a solid contribution to the Pearl GTL project. Jumbo’s HLV Fairpartner transported 12, German-built, reactors from Rotterdam. Jumbo Logistics was contracted to execute a barging operation for 12 of the reactors, starting at the fabrication site in Hamriyah (U.A.E.).

Keppel FELS Completes Singaporean Project

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M), has completed the construction of its second jackup drilling rig for Gulf Drilling International Ltd (GDI), a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Japan Drilling Co., Ltd. (JDC). At a ceremony on 26 January 2008, the rig was named Al-Zubarah, after one of Qatar’s very important economic centres, by Mr Mohammad Al-Shirrawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GDI. Built to Keppel’s proprietary KFELS B Class design, the rig has been customised to GDI’s requirements for drilling in the Arabian Gulf. Al-Zubarah is capable of operating in water depths of up to 300 feet, drilling 30,000 feet deep and accommodating up to 110 men.

Keppel to Develop Qatar Shipyard

Keppel Offshore and Marine has signed an agreement with Qatar Gas Transport Company to jointly develop and manage a major new facility in the Port of Ras Laffan in Qatar. The agreement covers the construction, repair and maintenance of ships and other marine structures. The new facility will be suitable for the repair and maintenance of very large LNG carriers and a wide range of other vessels. The shipyard will be able to build specialised small ships, such as offshore supply vessels. Completion of the first phase of the yard is scheduled for the last quarter of 2009.
