PPG Donates $10,000 to NACE For Annual Scholarships

Donation supports students pursuing corrosion-, coatings-related degrees. The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $10,000 to create two annual scholarships provided through the NACE International Foundation, a 501(c)(3) entity affiliated with NACE International, The Corrosion Society. Two students pursuing postsecondary academic degrees related to corrosion or coatings each received a $5,000 scholarship on behalf of PPG. Azra Turajlic of Fort Worth, Texas, a freshman majoring in petroleum engineering at Louisiana State University.

Corrosion Battle Conference at NATO School

Officials from NACE International & ministries of defense convene to compare best practices in combatting material degradation. The U.S. and its allies are serious about battling corrosion on aging aircraft, ships, submarines, and ground vehicles. Officials from the US DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office and the German, French, and U.K. ministries of defense recently compared best practices in combatting material degradation on weapon systems and facilities during a four-day workshop at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany. "This is the first time that policy and technical experts have convened to share corrosion prevention policies, practices, and scientific expertise since the NATO School was founded in 1954," said Daniel J.

NACE Int’l Names Chalker Executive Director

NACE International, the Corrosion Society, today named Robert (Bob) H. Chalker as its new Executive Director. Chalker has served as Managing Director & CEO of ASQ Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Society for Quality, for the past year and half. He is a dynamic leader with a vast background in strategic planning and global development. Prior to being named Managing Director at ASQ Global in 2009, Chalker served as Director, Global Development and Strategic Planning at SAE International for five years where he was responsible for the Society’s $57m in revenues, and setting the sales and marketing direction for the global, 115,000 member organization.

NACE Corrosion 2010 Workshop, Selling to DOD

NACE International, the corrosion society, will offer a special workshop free to all attendees at Corrosion 2010 that is specifically designed to help private industry sell to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The workshop introduces the DoD web portal, CorrDefense, and explains how to use the associated DoD Product Introduction Tool. The workshop will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, Texas. NACE Corrosion 2010

NACE International, The Corrosion Society, has released details for the upcoming Corrosion 2010 Conference & Expo, the world’s largest annual conference dedicated to mitigating the costly global impact of corrosion. Recently, the annual cost of corrosion of the world’s critical infrastructure was found to be over $1.8t by the World Corrosion Organization. The annual event will take place in San Antonio, Texas, March 14 to 18, 2010 and will deliver a comprehensive array of meetings and symposia across a broad spectrum of industries. Corrosion 2010 will bring together more than 5,000 corrosion industry leaders, executives, and decision makers for workshops, forums, and events.

NACE Keeps the Corrosion Out of Coatings

NACE International, The Corrosion Society, is a professional technical society dedicated to the prevention and control of corrosion. The organization offers technical training and certification programs, sponsors conferences, and produces industry standards and reports, publications and software. Established in 1943, NACE has more than 15,000 members worldwide, provides education, and communicates information to protect people, assets, and the environment from the effects of corrosion. Over the last three years NACE has been working closely with the Federal Highway Administration and CC Technologies to complete the federal funded Corrosion Costs and Preventive Strategies in the United States.

NACE Announces Corrosion Impact Study

A two-year, $1 million grant was awarded to Ohio-based CC Technologies Laboratories - with support from NACE International, The Corrosion Society - to estimate the total cost of metallic corrosion in the U.S., and to provide cost-effective strategies to minimize its impact. The study is funded through the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Economic sectors to be studied include transportation infrastructure such as airports, bridges, underground oil and gas pipelines, and water and sewage systems. The study will also investigate modes of conveyance and storage, such as aircraft, motor vehicles, ships, storage tanks and trains.

NACExpo 2003 Set for San Diego

According to the study, "Corrosion Costs and Preventive Strategies," the cost of corrosion in the U.S. is a staggering $276 billion per year. The shipping industry alone accounts for $2.7-billion, broken down into new ship construction — $1.1 billion, maintenance and repairs — $0.8 billion, and corrosion-related downtime — $0.8 billion. This study was initiated by NACE International — The Corrosion Society and mandated by the U.S. Congress in 1999 as part of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), and conducted by CC Technologies Laboratories, Inc, with support from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and NACE. This year more than 7,000 of the world's leading corrosion professionals will meet in San Diego, Calif.
