The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited announced it has contracted to buy a medium range (MR) product tanker of about 49,999 dwt on February 14, 2024. US Sanctions Maritime Companies, Vessels for Shipping Oil Above Russian Price Cap

The U.S. on Thursday imposed sanctions on maritime companies and vessels for shipping Russian oil sold above the G7's price cap, as Washington seeks to close loopholes in the mechanism designed to punish Moscow for its war in Ukraine.The U.S. Treasury Department in a statement said it slapped sanctions on three United Arab Emirates-based companies and three vessels owned by them in the action, accusing the vessels of engaging in the export of Russian crude oil priced above the $60 a barrel cap.

DNV Grants Approval for Liquid Hydrogen Cargo Containment System

CB&I, McDermott's storage business, has received Approval in Principle (AiP) for its design of a liquid hydrogen (LH2) cargo containment system from DNV.CB&I collaborated with Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited to provide safe LH2 shipping solutions that enable hydrogen energy supply chains using gas carriers.The containment system design is based on CB&I's proven vacuum-insulated spherical technology for onshore LH2 storage. CB&I has designed and constructed more than 130 large, field-erected LH2 storage tanks worldwide over the past 60 years.

Shell Taps Alfa Laval to Develop Gas Combustion Unit for Liquid Hydrogen Carriers

Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Alfa Laval regarding the development of a new Gas Combustion Unit (GCU) for use on liquid hydrogen carriers.By paving the way for the safe transport of hydrogen by sea, the project is an important step on the path to global decarbonization. ABS Grants AIP for F&G-Designed COSCO Wind Turbine Installation Vessel

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has granted Approval in Principle (AIP) for a design for a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) for China Ocean Shipping Company Limited (COSCO) by Friede and Goldman (F&G).According to ABS, the design is suitable for all offshore wind markets and is capable of installing 15 MW and larger-sized turbines. It can be equipped with F&G’s BargeRack feeder barge system to support Jones Act-compliant operations in the U.S. that has previously received an AIP from ABS.

World's First Barge-to-Ship Methanol Bunkering Carried out in Rotterdam

On May 10, 2021, the methanol-dual fueled chemical tanker Takaroa Sun, owned by NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd. participated in what is touted as the world’s first barge-to-ship bunkering of methanol fuel. The bunkering of methanol fuel was conducted in Rotterdam port under the leadership of the charterer Waterfront Shipping Company Limited, together with the cooperation of the Port of Rotterdam, Royal Vopak N.V., and TankMatch B.V.Methanol fuel produces up to 15% less carbon emissions during combustion than conventional fuel oil and reduces sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions by approximately 99%.

NYK Inks Charter Deal for Pair of Methanol-fueled Chem Tankers

NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd., an NYK Group company based in Singapore, signed a long-term time charter contract with Waterfront Shipping Company Limited (WFS) for two newly built chemical carriers, each equipped with a dual-fuel engine that enables the vessels to be powered not only by marine fuel oil but also methanol.Planned for delivery from the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (Korea) in 2022, the vessels will be delivered to WFS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Methanex Corporation, the world’s largest producer and supplier of methanol.

Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Group) has taken delivery of Takaroa Sun, a methanol carrier equipped with two-stroke dual-fuel engine tech that allows the vessel to be powered by methanol. Built in South Korea at Hyundai MIPO Dockyard, the new ship was funded through NYK’s green financing initiative established to support environment-friendly projects.Takaroa Sun was built with the MAN Energy Solutions second-generation B&W ME-LGIM two-stroke dual-fuel engine that runs on both methanol and conventional marine fuel.

Pangaea Orders 2 More High Ice Class Ships

Pangaea Logistics Solutionsexpanded its order for high ice class post-panamax dry bulk 95,000 dwt. vessels at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) from two to four vessels.The four ships, two for delivery in April and May 2021 and two for delivery in November 2021, will be used to service Pangaea's Arctic customer base. The two added ships, also designed with Ice Class 1A specifications, will cost $37.7 million each.Pangaea also announced a series of committed transactions to finance the ships through a $129.2 million bareboat charter structure. On delivery, each of the ships will be sold to subsidiaries of CSSC Shipping Company Limited, a leading ship leasing company listed on the Hong Kong Exchange.

Hapag-Lloyd Redeems Bond Early

German-based container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd AG has decided to partially redeem EUR 170 million of its senior note on 11 February 2019 and prior to its maturity 2022 at a fixed redemption price of 103.375 percent.According to a press release from the transportation company, the senior note was issued in February 2017 with an aggregate principal amount of EUR 450 million.
