Crowley Names Michel VP, Human Resources and Learning

Crowley Maritime Corp. has appointed Susan “Suz” Michel as vice president of human resources and learning, bringing all aspects of human capital management under her leadership – from talent acquisition to training and professional development to long-term employee retention. Michel joined Crowley in 2004 and most recently served as vice president of organizational development and change leadership. She will remain based in Jacksonville and continue to report to Carl Fox, senior vice president of corporate services.

Crowley Formalizes New Business Segments

Crowley Maritime Corp. has formalized two new groups, Government Services and Global Ship Management, in a move that aims to better streamline its offerings to the growing government services sector and to continue expanding its global ship management business. Crowley Announces Leadership Changes

Crowley Maritime Corporation has announced  that Steve Demeroutis will now assume the role of vice president, marine operations, for the company’s petroleum and chemical transportation group. Rudy Leming will assume Demeroutis’ former position of vice president, labor relations. In their new positions, both employees will remain domiciled in Jacksonville, Fla., Demeroutis will report to Crowley’s Rob Grune, senior vice president and general manager, petroleum services, while Leming now reports to Bill Pennella, vice chairman and executive vice president.

Crowley Names Cosgrove VP, Marine Ops

Crowley Maritime announced that Cole Cosgrove has assumed the role of vice president of marine operations for Crowley's liner services groups. Cosgrove will continue to work out of the company's Jacksonville office while reporting to John Hourihan, senior vice president and general manager, Latin America services, and John Douglass, senior vice president and general manager, Puerto Rico and Caribbean services. Michel Promoted to Crowley VP, People Development and Learning

Crowley Maritime Corp. announced that Suz Michel has been promoted to vice president of People Development and Learning. Michel will relocate from Seattle, Wash., to the company's headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla. Michel, who previously served as director of People Development and Learning, will report to Carl Fox, senior vice president, corporate services. As vice president, Michel will continue her work in helping employees - both shoreside and on vessels - develop skills and competencies to improve organizational performance.

Crowley's Puerto Rico/Caribbean liner services group announced two management appointments on Feb. 9 — Rudy Leming to vice president, marine & terminal operations, and Matt Jackson to vice president, Caribbean Island services. Nalen General Manager Valdez Ops Crowley

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that Charlie Nalen has been named general manager of the company's Valdez operation. In his new position, Nalen will be responsible for the entirety of Crowley's marine operations in Valdez including ship assist and escort services for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company's Ship Escort/Response Vessel System (SERVS). He will report to Bruce Harland, vice president of contract services, Alaska and will relocate from Jacksonville, Fla. to Valdez. Nalen has held a number of related positions during his 29 years with Crowley.

Crowley Promotes Cosgrove

As vice president of marine personnel, Cosgrove is responsible for the employment life cycle of the company's more than 2000 vessel personnel. This effort includes hiring and crewing, as well as workforce planning, back office administration and systems management. Cosgrove joined in January of 1987 as a port captain in the ship operations group overseeing 's and foreign-flag vessels and crews. Since that time, he has served the company in positions of increasing responsibility including senior port captain, manager of chartering operations and director of contract operations. In 2005, Cosgrove was named a general manager and formed the ship management group to oversee third party vessel operations. In 2001, Cosgrove was awarded the Thomas Crowley Trophy, 's highest honor.

Crowley Promotes John Ara

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that John Ara has been promoted to vice president with responsibility for the company's Atlantic/Gulf Coast commercial and marine operations business. general manager. Ara, who most recently held the position of director, marine operations, will now have commercial responsibility for contract services as well as Gulf Coast marine operations. Ara is a 30-year Crowley veteran who began his career working as a dispatcher in San Pedro, Calif. He has held positions of increasing responsibility and high visibility throughout his career with Crowley, including time spent in San Juan, Puerto Ricoas sales manager and in recent years he has had a large role in the company's Sakhalin Island and Angola sealift projects.

Sweeney Promoted to VP of Far East Operations at Crowley

Effective March 1, 2004, Alex Sweeney will assume the position of Vice President of Russian Far East Operations. In his new position, Sweeney is responsible for the management of the BETS Sealift to Lunskoye, Sakhalin Island and the tow of the Orlan from Sov Govan, Russia to Ulsan, Korea. He will report directly to Steve Peterson, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Energy and Marine Services and will work closely with Chris Peterson, General Manager, Contract Services, who has commercial responsibility for those contracts. Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has over 20 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the east and west coasts.

Crowley Maritime Corporation promoted Alex Sweeney to vice president and general manager of its energy and marine services business unit. Sweeney will live in Seattle and report to Chairman, President and CEO Tom Crowley Jr. He replaces Steve Peterson, who is leaving the company. Crowley Promotes Sweeney; Gleason Joins As Director

Crowley Marine Services has promoted Alex Sweeney to vice president, Valdez Business Unit. Sweeney is responsible for all marine activities in support of the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company's Ship Escort Response Vessel System (SERVS) in Alaska. SERVS' mission is to prevent oil spills by assisting tankers in safe navigation through Prince William Sound and to protect the environment by providing rapid and effective response services. Sweeney and his staff and crews are helping SERVS meet this critical mission in the harsh environment of Prince William Sound by operating the most technically advanced fleet of escort vessels in the world. Sweeney joined Crowley in 1980 and has more than 20 years experience in marine operations for Crowley on the east and west coasts.

Nalen Awarded Crowley Trophy

Charlie Nalen, vice president, Environmental Affairs Safety & Quality for Crowley Maritime Corp. was honored for his service with the 1999 Thomas Crowley Trophy, which is the company's highest honor. Nalen, who is the second employee to receive the honor this year, is credited with helping to establish an environmental management system, as well as spearheading and fast-tracking ISO and ISM certification processes for Crowley operations and vessels on both coasts and internationally. Prior to his 20-year tenure with the company, Nalen was the director of Vocational Education for the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship, a seafarers International Union (SIU) training facility in Pitney Point, Md.
