More than three years after completing the first outline sketches, Spanish naval design and architecture firm Oliver Design has completed outfitting the interiors for the Bima Suci, the Indonesian navy’s new sail training ship. Mitigation of Shock & Vibration on Fast Boats

For some time now, military agencies and specialist organizations around the globe have driven the evolution of high speed watercraft. As a trickle-down effect fast response craft now serve roles once typically serviced by displacement designs including pilot boats, dive boats, crew boats and offshore support. During high speed operations the repeated shocks (RS) and whole body vibrations (WBV) of this harsh environment are transmitted to the passengers, operators and crew aboard, creating avenues of owner liability if not addressed.

Boat-towed Detectors Assist Researchers and Salvors

A number of archaeological groups and marine service companies are acquiring boat-towed metal detectors to assist in locating shipwrecks and to perform geophysical surveys. These devices can locate a variety of targets including the piles of magnetic ballast stones found on many old wrecks, gold and silver bars, cannons, anchors, pipelines, cables, and various metal debris which must be removed from an area before dredging. The two primary pieces of equipment used in these operations are a magnetometer and pulse induction (PI) metal detectors.

Dean Taylor bid farewell to his post as Tidewater Inc.'s chief executive officer on May 31, following a prosperous, far-flung career of 34 years at the New Orleans-based company. Chief Operating Officer Jeff Platt, who has worked side by side with Taylor for fifteen years, took the helm. And Jeff Gorski was named the new COO. In his decade as chief, Taylor guided Tidewater's fleet expansion. The company has poured hundreds of millions of dollars yearly into an energetic building-and-acquisition effort.

Tidewater Promotes Greer, Handin & Vorst

Tidewater Inc. (NYSE: TDW) announced the promotions of Nelson Greer, Mark Handin and Darren Vorst to Vice Presidents of Tidewater companies, effective April 1, 2011. Greer joined Tidewater in 1982, after completing 13 years in the British Merchant Marine. He completed the Harvard Business School General Management Program in 2006, and holds a Chief Engineer Unlimited Class 1 Engineering License. In his various management positions with Tidewater, he has been based in Angola, Nigeria, Congo and Gabon, prior to his current posting in Singapore. His Tidewater experience includes engineering, technical management, operations management, area management and, most recently, regional management, with responsibility for Southeast Asia, Australia, the Middle East, North Africa and India.

MSC Sealift Logistics Europe, New Commander

The leadership of Sealift Logistics Command Europe and Commander, Task Force 63 changed hands at SEALOGEUR headquarters in Naples, Italy. Capt. James E. Tranoris assumed the dual command from outgoing commander, Capt. Nicholas H. Holman. SEALOGEUR, Military Sealift Command's arm in Europe and Africa, oversees at-sea movement of combat cargo for U.S. 6th Fleet. CTF-63 is responsible for the ships and aircraft that provide logistics support to 6th Fleet combatant ships. The commander's area of responsibility includes more than 20 million square nautical miles of ocean, 91 countries and 67 percent of the world's coastlines. It covers roughly half of the Atlantic Ocean, from the North Pole to Antarctica, as well as the Adriatic, Baltic, Barents, Black, Caspian, Mediterranean and North seas.

Taylor Promoted to President of Tidewater

Tidewater (NYSE: TDW) announced today that Dean E. Taylor, age 53, has been promoted to President He has also been appointed to the Tidewater Board of Directors. Taylor was previously executive vice president with operating responsibilities for Latin America, West Africa and the North Sea. He replaces William C. O'Malley, age 64, who retains the positions of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman. It is expected that Taylor will become Chief Executive Officer in March 2002. Taylor is a graduate of Tulane University with an MBA from Boston University. He joined Tidewater in 1979 following seven years of military service as a Naval officer. Crowley Promotes Fortunato to VP, Government Business Development

Crowley Maritime Corporation has promoted Ed Fortunato to vice president, Government Business Development, with marketing, sales and budgetary responsibility for the company's government services sector. In his new position, he remains domiciled in the Washington, D.C. area. He continues his activities with senior government agency councils and committees. Since joining Crowley in 1997 as Director of Government Services, Fortunato has been instrumental in managing government contracts. Coast Guard on Patrol in Boston

Coast Guard Cutter Flyingfish patrols up the Mystic River towards the Tobin Bridge on January 31, after suspicious packages were reported on the Longfellow and Boston University Bridges. A portion of the Charles River, from the Museum of Science to the Boston Harbor locks, was closed. Coast Guard Sector Boston also increased random patrols of ferry terminals and put law enforcement teams aboard some commuter ferries as a precautionary measure. Three New Hires for Port of Los Angeles

The Public Relations & Legislative Affairs division at the Port of Los Angeles has hired three new team members to help extend Port-related community interaction and legislative activity in support of a roster of current and upcoming Port initiatives. Coming to the Port from the Los Angeles City Commission on the Status of Women, Veronica Hendrix has been hired as the Port’s new community-focused Public Information Director. Legislative Director for 15th District Councilwoman Janice Hahn, assumes the Port’s Los Angeles-focus Legislative Representative post.
