Manson Awarded Floating Dry Dock Mooring Facility Contract at Naval Base San Diego

Seattle based Manson Construction Co. announced it has been selected as the contractor for the P-508 Floating Dry Dock Mooring Facility project.Awarded by Naval Facilities Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW), this $106.9 million project at Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) includes a new ramp pier, retrofitting the mooring wharf, and support facilities for Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) to directly support the operations and maintenance of a new floating dry dock.

US Navy Orders LCS Propulsion Items

Defense Maritime Solutions, Inc. secured a contract from the U.S. Navy's Southwest Regional Maintenance Center in San Diego in support of the waterjets and seals that they originally supplied for the Littoral Combat Ship Independence Class.The $9,135,942 firm-fixed price indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract includes four ordering year options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $60,582,873. Work will be performed globally and defined in each delivery order. The completion of the base year is expected to be twelve months after award.

USS Freedom Suffers Casualty

The U.S. Navy's first littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1) experienced a casualty to one of its main propulsion diesel engines (MPDE) on July 11 reportedly caused by a leak from the attached seawater pump mechanical seal that resulted in seawater entering the engine lube oil system, according to the Navy. The ship’s crew addressed the leak, enabling Freedom to return to homeport July 13 on her own power for repairs on a separate, unrelated issue. While in port, the crew performed seawater contamination procedures.

DoD Awards Two Ship Repair Contracts

The US Department of Defense informs it has awarded a contract to Brodogradiliste Viktor Lenac D.D., Rijeka, Croatia, for the 'USS Mount Whitney', and a contract modification to General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Co., San Diego, California for work on 'USS Boxer'. Brodogradiliste Viktor Lenac D.D., Rijeka, Croatia, is being awarded a $21,383,394 firm-fixed-price contract for a 179-day Extended Service Life Program, dry docking and ship repair of USS Mount Whitney. The ship's primary mission is to provide communication, command, and control support to U.S. Navy forces at sea. The contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the total contract value to $29,674,806. Work will be performed in Rijeka, Croatia, and is expected to be completed by July 2015. HII Awarded USS Ronald Reagan Contract Modification

The US Department of Defense informs that Huntington Ingalls Inc., Coronado, California, is being awarded a $24,230,190 modification to a previously awarded cost-plus-award-fee contract (N00024-13-C-4315) for USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) fiscal 2014 planned incremental availability. DoD explains that a planned incremental availability includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship's military and technical capabilities. Work will be performed in Coronado, California, and is expected to be completed by April 2015. DoD Award Dredging, Ship Maintenance, Charter Contracts

US Department of Defense informs of placement of contracts for Chesapeake Bay dredging, dry-docking of USS Pearl Harbor, and charter of surface escort vessels. Norfolk Dredging Company, Chesapeake, Virginia, has been awarded $18,784,248 for a dredging requirement for Baltimore harbor and channels. Maintenance dredging will take place in various channel sections in the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance (Army) funds in the amount of $18,784,248 were obligated at the time of the award. BAE Systems Awarded USS Lake Erie Drydock Contract

US Department of Defense informs that BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair, San Diego, California, is being awarded an undefinitized contract action with a not-to-exceed amount of $78,074,377 to a previously awarded cost-plus-award-fee, incentive-fee contract (N00024-11-C-4400) for USS Lake Erie (CG 70) fiscal 2014 extended dry-docking selected restricted availability (SRA). DoD explains that an extended dry-docking SRA includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship's military and technical capabilities. NAVSEA Completes Waterjet Seal and Evaluation on USS Fort Worth

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) divers recently completed the first full underwater waterjet seal and evaluation on a littoral combat ship (LCS), USS Fort Worth (LCS 3), the Navy announced, Jan. LCS class ships are unique to the U.S. Navy because they use waterjets instead of propellers for propulsion. Each waterjet draws seawater in through a duct, increases the water's pressure and then ejects it, causing the ship to move.

DofD Latest Dredging & Ship Repair Contracts

Weeks Marine has been awarded a substantial dredging contract, and NASSCO a contract for the phased maintenance of  'USS Peleliu'. Weeks Marine Inc., Covington, La., was awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract with a maximum value of $12,728,225 for dredging services in support of various projects. Work will be performed in West Baton Rouge Parish, La.; West Feliciana Parish, La.; St. Martin Parish, La.; and St. Mary Parish, La. The type of appropriation will be determined with each order. The bid was solicited through the Internet, with three bids received. The Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans, La., is the contracting activity (W912P8-13-D-0010). BAE Systems Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, is being awarded a $15,986,837 modification to previously awarded contract (N0024-06-C-4408) for repairs to the USS Chafee (DDG 90). Work will be performed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and is expected to be completed by February 2014. Fiscal 2013 Operations & Maintenance, Navy funding in the amount of $15,986,837 will be obligated at the time of award, and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

BAE San Diego Gets USS Green Bay Modernization Contract

The US Department of Defense has awarded a Navy contract for the LPD 17-class warship modernization. BAE San Diego Ship Repair, San Diego, Calif., is being awarded a $15,361,658 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-10-C-4407) to exercise an option for the USS Green Bay (LPD 20) fiscal 2013 dry-docking selected restricted availability. This option exercise is for the multi-ship, multi-option program for the LPD 17 class. BAE San Diego Ship Repair will provide planning, repair, alteration and material support services for LPD 17class modernization.
