Volvo Penta’s Kull a Top Woman in Manufacturing

Marcia Kull, vice president of marine sales for Volvo Penta of the Americas, has been selected by the Manufacturing Institute as one of the top women in U.S. manufacturing for 2016. Kull and the other honorees will be recognized at the fourth annual Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Ahead Award at a gala dinner April 21 in Washington, D.C. The STEP Ahead Awards celebrate those women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers in all levels of the manufacturing industry, from the factory floor to the C-suite.

I am increasingly concerned about the interaction between commercial vessels and recreational craft on the Chicago River. Even more frequently my operation is encountering people in short-term rental craft such as stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, canoes and small electric boats who know little or nothing about the USCG Navigation Rules and who are not aware of the risks of operating on a narrow channel close to large commercial vessels. This year alone my crew has rescued seven persons in distress…

Zodiac of North America, Marie Retires

Zodiac of North America, Inc. announced that Jean-Jacques (J.J.) Marie, its President and Chief Executive Officer, is retiring from the company at the end of February. The company plans for Howard French to lead their Recreational Products division and Steve Seigel to lead their Military Products division. Marie, who will assist with the transition as a consultant, will also remain on the Board of Directors. Marie has been with the Zodiac family of companies for 25 years including serving as President for the last 19 years. "I have mixed emotions about retiring in such trying times, but I'm confident that Zodiac is in good shape and will weather this current storm well," Marie said. NAVSAC Meets in San Diego

The Coast Guard's Navigation Safety Advisory Council (NAVSAC) met in San Diego, Calif., on December 10-12, 2001. The agenda included a discussion of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) activities, maritime security challenges, an overview of Coast Guard aids to navigation (ATONs), automatic information systems (AIS), federal and state ballast water and aquatic nuisance initiatives, International Safety Management Code (ISM) implementation and barge lighting and recreational boating incidents. Captain David McFarland, Director of the Office of Coast Survey, NOAA, provided the Council with an overview of NOAA's efforts to conduct surveys of the nation's ports and produce electronic charts and shoreline maps.

Meetings of National Boating Safety Advisory Council

The National Boating Safety Advisory Council (NBSAC) and its subcommittees, sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard, will meet in San Mateo, California on October 27-29, 2002. The purpose of the meetings are to review issues related to review of boating safety regulations, boats and associated equipment, aftermarket marine equipment, and prevention through people. Coast Guard Seeks NBSAC Membership Applications

The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking applications for membership on the National Boating Safety Advisory Council (NBSAC). The Council advises the Coast Guard regarding regulations and other major boating safety matters. Applications should be submitted by September 9, 2003. 68 Fed. Reg. 34409 Source: HK Law
