Vestas, GE Settle U.S. Patent Dispute

Vestas Wind Systems A/S and GE Renewable Energy have settled all disputes related to multiple claims of patent infringement, said a joint announcement."The settlement of all disputes related to multiple patent infringement claims in the U.S., result in the discontinuation of the case pending in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California as well as all other pending proceedings related to the patents-in-suit," said the announcement.GE had initially filed a patent dispute in California against Vestas in 2017, over its zero-voltage ride-through technology, which enables wind turbines to manage grid faults.The patents-in-suit generally relate to technologies that enable wind turbines to manage grid faults.With this settlement…

Navy Granted Authority to Use Sonar in Training off California

The Navy announced Jan. 16 that two important steps have been taken under existing law and regulations to allow it to conduct effective, integrated training with sonar off the coast of southern California after a federal court earlier this month imposed untenable restrictions on such training. In accordance with the provisions of the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA), and at the recommendation of the Secretary of Commerce, President George W. Northrop Grumman Settles Two Lawsuits

Northrop Grumman Corporation agreed to an $80 million joint settlement of two civil False Claims Act complaints filed by the U.S. Department of Justice. Of the $80 million, the government allocated $60 million to settle allegations that Newport News Shipbuilding, Inc., acquired by Northrop Grumman in December 2001, improperly charged certain independent research and development costs to its government contracts between 1994 and 1999. The suit was filed in February 2003 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The case is United States of America v. Newport News Shipbuilding, Inc. #1:03CV142-A. The government allocated the balance of the $80 million to settle claims filed in May 1995 in the U.S.
