Maersk on Wednesday announced it had entered into the shipping industry's first large-scale agreement for green methanol from China's Goldwind, and said production of green methanol was high on the political agenda in China.Shipping industry leader Maersk is investing in green fuels to power its fleet as it strives to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, while the shipping industry, responsible for 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, aims for net-zero emissions by 2050."There's a lot of activity in China in this field for sure.

Maersk has taken delivery of the world’s first container feeder to be fueled by methanol.The 2,100 TEU vessel was built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and Hyundai Heavy Industries and features dual fuel main and auxiliary engines from MAN Energy Solutions that are able to operate on cleaner-burning methanol.The ABS-classed vessel, HMD Hull #4168, is embarking on its maiden voyage from Ulsan to Copenhagen for a naming ceremony in September, when the ships is expected to take the name Laura Maersk.

Denmark's Maersk said on Monday it has secured fuel for the first container vessel able to run on carbon-neutral methanol on its inaugural journey, from South Korea to Denmark.The 21,500 km long summer trip from Ulsan to Copenhagen will be fuelled by bio-methanol fuel produced from biogas captured from decomposing organic landfill waste. Norway-based H2Carrier announced it has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Greenland-based Anori to develop the first commercial wind farm in Greenland with subsequent production and export of green ammonia.The wind farm is projected to comprise 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy which will supply power to H2Carrier’s floating production vessel for hydrogen and green ammonia. Dutch offshore installation firm Heerema Marine Contractors said Tuesday it had broken a world lifting record with the installation of a 17,000 metric ton TotalEnergies' Tyra TEG module in the Danish sector of the North Sea.The TEG module, described as the biggest Tyra II project topside, was installed on the last remaining bare jacket at the Tyra offshore field."The lift of the 17,000 metric tons heavy process module broke a world record as the heaviest crane lift ever undertaken at sea.

Moller-Maersk said on Tuesday it had ordered eight vessels which are able to run on carbon-neutral methanol to accelerate the decarbonization of its fleet and meet increased customer demand for greener transportation.The Danish company has vowed to only order new vessels which can use carbon-neutral fuel as it seeks to deliver net-zero emissions by 2050. ForSea (formerly HH Ferries Group),  the operator linking Denmark and Sweden via Helsingør and Helsingborg, announced that Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Johan Röstinwill be stepping down from his position.“It has been a privilege to lead ForSea for almost three years. The company has come a long way during a short time, and I am proud to have contributed to the many changes we implemented and the results we have achieved. The number of hijackings and armed attacks on ships sailing off Nigeria has dropped according to new figures from the International Piracy Reporting Centre, IMB.Fire shots at ships, assault and hostage taking of crew members. Pirate attacks have long been a serious threat, creating insecurity for both crew members and shipping companies. But new figures now show that the number of pirate attacks is declining.Globally, 78 cases of piracy and armed robbery against ships have so far been registered, compared to 107 incidents in the same period in 2018.For the Gulf of Guinea and off the coast of Nigeria, there have been fewer registered incidents especially in the second quarter of 2019. In the first half of 2019, 21 pirate incidents were registered off Nigeria.

Stamford, CT-based Dan-Bunkering (America)  announced the relocation of two Bunker Traders, the employment of a Senior Purchaser, and a new office address.Kasper Christiansen, Danish national, has relocated to Dan-Bunkering in Stamford as of 1 May 2019. Prior to the relocation, Kasper was working as a Senior Bunker Trader in the head office in Middelfart, Denmark; an office which he joined in 2010. He has, however, in the meantime been stationed abroad for a period of two years in Asia, thus he is thoroughly versed in various markets and holds nine years of valuable experience within the industry. Janek Ekeli, originally from Norway, also relocated to Dan-Bunkering’s Stamford office as of 1 May 2019 from another company in the group, i.e. the Middle Eastern office in Dubai.

German-based Hapag-Lloyd opened a new office in the Ghana port city Tema, on February 1, 2018. Effective immediately, the company will be represented at the local level by its own customer service staff. “Africa is strongly developing just now. To benefit from this growth, it’s important for us to strengthen our presence in Ghana with our own office – and to get even closer to our local customers,” said Lars Christiansen, Senior Managing Director of Hapag-Lloyd’s Region Middle East. West Africa has recorded significant growth in the last two years, with gross domestic product (GDP) rising by six percent on average. Among Ghana’s most important export goods are cocoa, timber products and cashew nuts.

Ocean carrier Hapag-Lloyd will commence a new weekly service between the Port of Jeddah and the east coast of Africa in April. With the East Africa Service (EAS), the liner shipping company will be calling at the ports of Mombasa (Kenya) and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) for the first time. These will be connected to Hapag-Lloyd’s existing global network via the Saudi Arabian port of Jeddah, as the central hub of the region. Hapag-Lloyd will initially deploy four vessels, each with a capacity of 1,200 TEU, in the EAS. The fast-growing economies of countries in East Africa further inland from Kenya and Tanzania, which lack their own seaports, are also likely to benefit from this new offer, as it will give them improved access to the global market.

UK-based ship management company V.Group announced the appointment of Ian El-Mokadem as Chief Executive Officer and Martin Gaard Christiansen as Chief Commercial Officer. Both will assume their positions in the autumn. Ian joins from Exova, the global provider of technically demanding testing, calibration and related advisory services, where he served as Chief Executive for the last six years. Michael Pram Rasmussen said he will not stand for reelection as chairman of the board of directors, opting to stand down when his election period expires March 28, 2017, the date of group’s annual general meeting. Semi-submersible accommodation vessels owner and operator Prosafe has made several changes to its management team. Jesper Kragh Andresen was appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Stig H. Christiansen as Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Prosafe Management AS. Georgina Georgiou will continue as General Manager of the parent company Prosafe SE. From 2012 and until recently, Andresen was CEO in Axis Offshore. Prior to this he was President of Lauritzen Offshore and Managing Director of J. Lauritzen Singapore.

Anadarko Petroleum  is in talks with newly formed Japanese joint-venture vehicle Jera, set to become the world's biggest buyer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), to sell long-term supply from its Mozambique export scheme. The U.S. oil major's gas finds in Area 1 of Mozambique's Rovuma Basin will feed the initial 10 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), $23 billion LNG export project, which is due to start by 2021. Jera is a joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) and Chubu Electric, Japan's biggest and third-biggest utilities, set up in April with an aim to become the cheapest LNG buyer in East Asia. Anadarko and Jera are in talks over a long-term gas import deal, three industry sources said.

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has launched two new West Africa services, WAF2 and WAF3, to enhance schedule reliability and cater to growing demand. The new services, effective September 2015, will operate in addition to UASC’s existing WAF1 service. Volvo Penta and Danish manufacturer BUKH have entered into a partnership by which Volvo Penta will supply BUKH with diesel engines of up to 16 liter capacity for new propulsion solutions for lifeboats. The agreement between the two companies enables BUKH to extend its SOLAS engine range, and allows Volvo Penta to extend the use of its products in new applications. Lifeboat manufacturers will benefit by the increase in available power options and leveraging of comprehensive technology offered by the two companies.
