US Navy Upgrades Mine Hunting Capabilities

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) delivered the first of three lots of mine hunting sonar upgrade kits to the U.S. Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division. The ultimate end users will be the HM-12, -14 and -15 Mine Countermeasures Squadrons. The production contracts from the Navy’s PMS-495 are for upgrading 27 AQS-24A mine hunting systems into the more advanced AQS-24B system. The kits contain all the components necessary to upgrade the existing 27 AQS-24A mine hunting systems into the more advanced AQS-24B system. Work is being done in three production lots.

Northrop Grumman to Support Roll-Out of NATO MCCIS

Northrop Grumman  has been selected by the NATO C3 Agency (NC3A) to provide hardware and software support services for the roll-out of the Maritime Command and Control Information System (MCCIS) across NATO countries. The MCCIS merges information gathered from satellites, wide area networks, computerized tactical data processors and machine-readable messages to create a common operating environment for maritime and other assets. It is integrated by NATO support staff and includes commercial-off-the-shelf products together with NATO-developed applications. The MCCIS is installed in every NATO maritime headquarters, which includes more than 300 workstations.

Navy Secretary Receives Philadelphia Award

Donald C. Winter, Secretary of the Navy, will receive the Commodore John Barry Distinguished Citizen Award at the annual Navy League Dinner to be held on August 28. Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill. Winter Wins Senate Approval for Navy Secretary

A corporate vice president at Northrop Grumman Corp. was confirmed by the Senate yesterday to be the new secretary of the Navy, according to a Washington Technology report. Donald C. Winter most recently served as president of Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems sector. He also formerly worked as president and CEO of TRW Systems, said the report. In the early 1980s, Winter worked with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency as program manager for space acquisition. Winter earned his bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Rochester and a master's and doctorate in physics from the University of Michigan. In 2002, Winter was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. Source: Washington Technology

Navy Secretary Confirmed; Can’t Take Office

According to a recent Chicago Sun story, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Donald Winter as Navy secretary, but he won't formally take over until the current secretary's stalled promotion is cleared in an expected recess appointment by President Bush. Two senators have blocked Navy Secretary Gordon England's confirmation as deputy defense secretary, the Pentagon's second-highest position, creating a logjam in the department's hierarchy. According to the story, Bush will bypass the Senate and install England as deputy secretary within the next four months. The recess appointment would clear the way for Winter, the former corporate vice president of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, to be formally sworn in as the Navy's top civilian official.

Winter Nominated as Secretary of the Navy

Nine Northrop Grumman Employees Killed in Attack
