APM Terminals Liberia Aids Local Health Outreach

APM Terminals Liberia participated in a local medical outreach program organized by First Responders Liberia, Inc., as part of a 10-day program to provide access for an estimated 4,000 Liberians. APM Terminals Liberia is providing logistical support to the medical team of 30 professionals from the USA who are volunteering their services. APM Terminals Liberia Managing Director George Adjei said, “We want our neighbors to know that we feel it is our duty as responsible corporate citizens to take an active role in supporting the communities in the port area, and throughout the country. APM Terminals commenced operations at the Port of Monrovia in February 2011 under a 25-year concession agreement for the privatization of the port.

APM Terminals Liberia Sees Economic Recovery

Addressing the US - Liberia Trade & Investment Forum in New York City, APM Terminals Liberia Managing Director George Adjei points to a 30% increase in import container traffic at Liberia’s largest port as a reason for great confidence in Liberian investment. Gangway Snarl-up Left Liberia's President Dockside

Liberia's President, set for an afternoon cruise, delayed first by boat's late arrival, then gave up idea when gangway jammed on board. An embarrassing fiasco occurred at the Free Port of Monrovia recently, causing the President of Liberia to depart disappointingly, after waiting for nearly three hours at the pier (the dock) reports the nation's 'Daily Observer'. The ship, MV Diallo Macedo, was scheduled to have departed that afternoon for a cruise down the Atlantic [coast] with several guests aboard, who were to have been entertained with dinner and dancing, for a handsome fee. But two strange things happened that caused serious embarrassment to the guests, including the President.

USCG Port Security Advisory

The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Port Security Advisory stating that Albania and Madagascar have submitted to the IMO information indicating that they are maintaining effective anti-terrorism measures in the maritime sector. The nations that have not, as yet submitted such information are the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Nauru. Any vessel that visited ports in these five countries (with the exception of the Port of Monrovia in Liberia) during their last five port calls will be subjected to increased port state control upon arrival in the United States unless the vessel instituted appropriate enhanced security measures during such port call.

Navy Tug Fights Fire Aboard Freighter in Liberia

USNS Apache (T-ATF 172) responded to a shipboard fire aboard a commercial freighter while repairing the port of Monrovia, Liberia’s, damaged commercial pier and surveying the city’s harbor, Aug. 10. The engine room of Tahoma Reefer, an Estonian commercial freighter also paying a call on Monrovia’s port, burst into flames in the early hours of the day. Later that morning, just as smoke from the burning vessel was spotted from Apache’s bridge, the U.S. Embassy in Liberia phoned the ship and asked the crew to respond. Using the ship’s rigid hull inflatable (RHIB) boat, Apache Chief Mate Troy Bruemmer and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Pete Sharpe, officer-in-charge of the 12-member embarked Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2 and three other crew members, rushed to the scene.
