Survitec Receives DNV GL Certification

British manufacturer of  marine safety and survival equipments Survitec has received DNV GL Z-17 certification as a class-approved service provider for all DNV-GL classed vessels operating various brands of safety and survival equipment, including lifeboats, liferafts, marine evacuation systems (MES) and fire-fighting equipment and breathing apparatus.“The certification means that all Survitec sites carrying out work on lifeboats, fire-fighting equipment, SCBA and LSA to ships and mobile offshore units (MOU) to SOLAS standards are included in the Z-17 approval,” said Mats Hestmann, Group Quality, Health and Safety Manager, Survitec.“Survitec is also approved to carry out class-approved annual inspections services…

Asset Management Optimized Using Aerial Drones

A new alliance aims to shake up traditional asset management and engineering inspection services in North America.Partners DCL Rigging & Mooring (DCL) and Aerostar Drone Solutions Inc. intend to utilize advanced, multiple-imaging sensors on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to dramatically lower the cost of conducting engineering surveys and inspection engagements.“We are using our 50 years of combined industry and engineering experience to develop alternative inspection techniques utilizing UAV technology,” said Darren Jackson, President of Aerostar.

Rolls-Royce, Siem Offshore Ink 5-Year Maintenance Deal

Rolls-Royce said it has signed a long-term service agreement with offshore vessel owner Siem Offshore for the maintenance of its deck machinery installations aboard 12 anchor handling vessels.The five-year Maintenance Inspection Program (MIP) is the formalization of a cooperation agreement between the two companies following the delivery of 10 new AHTS vessels in 2010, and two additional AHTS vessels that Siem Offshore took over ship management of in 2017.Jon August Houge, Operations Manager…

VOS Sugar First Charter

The newest addition to Vroon’s fleet, subsea-support vessel (SSV) VOS Sugar, recently started work in the BARD Offshore 1 Offshore Wind Farm (OWF). The vessel is supporting dive operations and maintenance work on wind-turbine foundations for clients NDE Offshore. NDE Offshore, a Sweden-based provider of subsea services, will conduct a combined topside and subsea campaign for the first time. The campaign comprises of underwater inspections, services and installation as well as inspection and service of transition pieces. BARD Offshore 1 is located 100km northwest of Borkum and comprises 80 wind turbines with a total capacity of 400MW. VOS Sugar is a DP2, SPS-coded, 68-metre SSV and one of two newbuilding SSVs to have been constructed at Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China.

Naylor Director of Maritime & Coastguard Agency

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency announced the appointment of Philip Naylor as the new Director of Maritime Services. This post is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of seafarers and ships under the Red Ensign and delivering emergency response, survey and inspections services. Naylor is currently General Manager for Fleet Marine and Shore Operations for Carnival UK. He served as a Deck Officer on tankers, ferries and sail training vessels before joining the cruise industry in 1986. Here he was responsible for the worldwide operation of 12 cruise ships, as well as major developments ashore in the Port of  Southampton. He has also led Carnival's emergency response organisation.
