The Netherlands Maritime Technology association has been officially launched on the international stage during the Holland Day at SMM on September 9. Sjef van Dooremalen, Chairman of Netherlands Maritime Technology, unveiled the new name onboard the LCF Zr. Ms. Evertsen in Hamburg to an audience of 250 guests. A new promo video about the Dutch maritime technological sector was also shown.

On a national level, the association, company and foundation for the maritime technological sector have been operating under this new joint name since May 8, 2014. The reason for the name change was to create more transparency, increase synergies and better reflect the technological and innovative character of 389 members.

A close network
Netherlands Maritime Technology replaces the following brands: Holland Shipbuilding Association (Scheepsbouw Nederland), Holland Marine Equipment Association, VNSI, HME BV, HME Singapore and CMTI. It represents a close-knit network of shipyards, suppliers and service providers who work together in all locations and conditions.

In the field of maritime technology, these companies – large and small – aim to lead the way in the quest for new challenges and solutions. Netherlands Maritime Technology serves the interests of the network, provides professional project support and carries out independent research wherever necessary. There is a particular focus on issues linked to trade, innovation and human capital. Members can use the Netherlands Maritime Technology logo so that their quality and reputation is instantly recognizable.

Holland Day

The first official Holland Pavilion under the Netherlands Maritime Technology name at the Hamburg Messe attracted considerable attention. In the morning Sjef van Dooremalen and Monique van Daalen (the Dutch Ambassador in Berlin) welcomed all the participants and wished them a productive event.

The Holland Pavilion at SMM was the largest ever, featuring 52 members and a surface area of over 1,000 square metres. The Holland Lounge provided a floor plan indicating all the member companies on the exhibition floor, where visitors were able to follow their own Holland Route. A total of 136 Dutch companies take part in SMM, of which 93 are associated with the network of Netherlands Maritime Technology.

In the afternoon a group of international relations visited the ‘Lowpex: Lowering Operational Costs in Shipping’ conference on the integrated reduction of operational costs in shipping. Bas Buchner (Director of MARIN), Fred van Beers (Managing Director Wärtsilä Netherlands BV), Sjef van Dooremalen (Chairman of Netherlands Maritime Technology) and Arie Kraaijeveld (Chairman of the Maritime by Holland initiative) discussed trendsetting maritime research and innovation projects as solutions and shared their vision on reducing OPEX in shipping.
