The Strategic Council on Security Technology announced the global rollout of Phase Two of the Smart and Secure Tradelanes (SST) initiative. In the last year, SST has become the largest cargo security program in operation, helping global shippers to automatically track the location and status of containers while creating a system to detect and report container tampering. The second phase of SST focuses on further expansion of the global network, extending operations, shipments, and integration into existing supply chain systems while incorporating new technologies such as sensor-equipped smart containers into global supply chain systems. Smart and Secure Tradelanes (SST) is an industry-funded supply chain security and efficiency initiative.

Every day, about 17,000 cargo containers enter U.S. ports, yet only one or two percent of them is routinely inspected. Since Sept. 11, government officials and global supply chain experts have been focusing on vulnerabilities and potential solutions to help ensure that weapons of mass destruction are not concealed in international cargo shipments. (Butch) King as CEO of VT Halter Marine Inc. at a company event celebrating the acquisition of VT Halter Marine. “King brings tremendous experience to his new position,” stated Gen. Coburn. Most recently a senior associate with Booz Allen and Hamilton, King consulted on various logistical support projects. Among other, this included the study and recommendation to revamp the Balkan Military Support initiative for the United States Army Europe. King also played an instrumental role in developing the Capstone Training Course for the first Interim Brigade Combat Team command and staff for the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command. VT Halter Marine, Inc., a subsidiary of Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. (VT Systems) has finalized an agreement with the U.S. Government to complete two contracts, including the construction of a Fisheries Research Vessel for the National Oceanographic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the construction of a Logistic Support Vessel for the U.S. Army. The Agreement, known as a “novation” provides an arrangement for VT Halter Marine to complete the multi-million dollar construction projects started by its predecessor. It was approved after the U.S. Government conducted an in-depth review to assure it was in their best interest to transfer the contracts to VT Halter Marine.

General (Retired) John Coburn has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors of Marotta Scientific Controls, Inc. General Coburn is currently Chairman and CEO of VT Systems, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Engineering, a $2.5 billion manufacturer of aerospace, electronic, maritime and land systems products. General Coburn retired from the military last year as the four-star chief of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, where he managed over 60,000 people and an annual budget of more than $19 billion. Over the years, he has accumulated extensive experience in logistics, contracting and acquisition in both the commercial and defense sectors, and will help guide Marotta to specific niches in its Aerospace, Defense and Commercial markets.

Vision Technologies Systems, Inc.'s (VTS) subsidiary, VT Halter Marine, Inc. has secured a contract to build an Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) for an undisclosed interest. The contract includes options for six additional vessels. announcement comes within days of VTS concluding the purchase of Halter Marine’s assets.
