Port Canaveral to Add New Patrol and Pilot Boats

Port Canaveral will add a new security patrol vessel and a pilot boat after receiving federal grant funding for several projects to protect against terrorism and other security threats.The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $472,500 in Port Security Grant Program (PSGP) funding to allow the Canaveral Port Authority (CPA) to purchase a new Security Rapid Response Boat. Port Canaveral Furloughs Cruise Personnel

Port Canaveral Maintains Normal Operations

The world’s second busiest cruise port is maintaining normal operations as it continues to monitor the COVID-19 developing situation, the Canaveral Port Authority announced.The port said it will be profoundly impacted by Friday's decision by major cruise lines to voluntarily suspend operations from all U.S. ports for at leas 30 days, and that it is working with cruise line partners to coordinate efforts and help meet their operational and berthing needs. New Aframax Tanker Makes First N. American Call

US' Largest Mobile Harbour Crane at Port Canaveral

Port Canaveral has taken the delivery of mobile harbor crane - 270-foot-tall Liebherr LHM 600 - the largest of its kind in the US.The huge LHM 600 crane arrived at the port on January 18, 2018 aboard the “Happy Dover”, a heavy load carrier and  will be operational in the second quarter of 2019. Port Canaveral Moves Ahead with Cruise Terminal 3

Florida's Canaveral Port Authority has awarded a $108.5m contract to Ivey’s Construction for building its new Cruise Terminal 3 project.The contract agreement has been approved by the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners.Ivey’s was the low bidder to build a two-story, 188,000-square-foot terminal as part of the Port’s largest single construction project in its 65-year history – a $163 million complex that will become the homeport for Carnival Cruise Line’s biggest and largest cruise ship, the Mardi Gras, when finished in May 2020.“We're creating a world-class cruise terminal, and with these contract awards, the project is mobilizing and moving ahead,” stated Port CEO Captain John Murray.

Port Canaveral Names German as Director

Port Canaveral's Cruise Team is gaining a new dimension with the appointment of Dave German as Director, Cruise Business Development, effective Friday, November 10, 2017. German previously served as Port Canaveral's Senior Harbormaster. In his new role, he will be responsible for building the Port's alliances with cruise lines for both home ported and port-of-call vessels. Dave German holds a Bachelor of Science degree in marine transportation and logistics from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and earned an MBA in finance from Ohio University.

New Reefer Ship Makes Maiden Call to US

GT USA welcomed to the Canaveral Cargo Terminal (CCT) the M.V. Seatrade Red on its maiden call to the United States. The 607-foot M.V. Seatrade Red, a specialized reefer container vessel with a capacity of 2,259 TEUs and 674 reefer plugs, was built at China’s Yangfan Shipyard and officially launched in May 2016 as one of Seatrade Group’s four new Colour Class vessels. On November 20, Joe Cruise, commercial manager of GT USA; and Alberto Cabrera, senior director, Cargo Sales, Canaveral Port Authority marked the vessel call by presenting commemorative plaques to Captain S. Poryadin of the M.V.

Canaveral Resumes Container Service after Hurricane Matthew

GT USA’s Canaveral Cargo Terminal (CCT) incurred minimal damage during Hurricane Matthew and is fully operational, the result of advance storm preparation and facility planning by GT USA in partnership with Canaveral Port Authority. The Canaveral Cargo Terminal resumed full operations, which included working the container cargo vessel M/V MAX WONDER for StreamLines, N.V.’s Blue Stream service. GT USA Adds Warehouse At Port Canaveral

GT USA, operators of Canaveral Cargo Terminal, has expanded its supply chain capabilities to serve shipping lines, along with domestic customers, with the addition of more than 40,000 square feet of covered storage now available at the Marlin Street Warehouse at Port Canaveral. The facility serves as a secure location for general warehousing, providing a full range of logistics services, including trucking, cross docking, storage and inventory control and last mile distribution.

The Canaveral Port Authority (CPA) has joined the Green Marine environmental certification program, a North American initiative committed to advancing environmental excellence in maritime transportation. This marks a major milestone as the Canaveral Port Authority is the 100th participant to join Green Marine. New Passenger Boarding Bridges for Port Canaveral

ADELTE, a provider of Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridges (SPBBs) and Global Services to cruise and ferry terminals, has been awarded two contracts by the Canaveral Port Authority to design, manufacture and install four custom-made HYDRA models SPBBs at Cruise Terminals 5 and 10. Port Canaveral was named the “Best North American Homeport” in 2015 by Cruise Critic and is the world’s second-largest cruise port by number of passengers, receiving 3.9 million passengers in 2015, behind Miami’s 4.8 million passengers.

Container Service to Connect Port Canaveral

GT USA, the US arm of UAE-based global ports and logistics company Gulftainer, announced the new ‘Blue Stream Service’, a weekly container cargo service connecting Port Canaveral to Europe, the French West Indies, and Central America. Blue Stream Service, operated by StreamLines, part of the SeaTrade Group, will provide refrigerated and dry container service to and from GT USA’s Canaveral Cargo Terminal, with a focus on fresh produce and perishable cargo. The Blue Stream Service will feature five ships with 1,300 TEU capacity and 250 reefer plugs on a weekly rotation. The new line will serve Central America to Port Canaveral in just three days and will offer the fastest transit time between Florida and Europe, just 11 days.

New Container Terminal Opens at Port Canaveral

The Canaveral Port Authority welcomes the start of StreamLine’s Blue Stream weekly liner service at its new Canaveral Cargo Terminal, which GT USA manages and operates. The service adds Port Canaveral to this valued trade route that includes Central America, Europe and the Caribbean. The first call at Canaveral is scheduled for January 31, 2016 with the arrival of the M/V Norderoog. StreamLines N.V. part of the Seatrade Group, is a container line providing refrigerated and dry container service specializing in fresh produce and perishables.

Port Canaveral Names Shipping Exec as New CEO

Canaveral Port Authority Commissioners today unanimously selected shipping line executive Capt. John W. Murray as the next chief executive officer of Port Canaveral. Murray currently is the President and CEO of Hapag-Lloyd USA, LLC, a global liner shipping company in Tampa that operates about 150 modern container ships and transports more than five million containers per year. “We believe our port and our community will be well served having Capt. Murray at the helm,” said Commission Chairman Jerry Allender. Allender said he hopes to have a negotiated contract with Murray on this month’s Commission meeting agenda scheduled for January 20. Outgoing CEO John E. Walsh’s last day is January 21. If necessary, Port Canaveral CFO Rodger Rees will step into the CEO role in the interim.

UAE Cargo Handler Tests Florida Waters

Sharjah-based ports operator Gulftainer has opened Canaveral Cargo Terminal at Port Canaveral in Florida in the US for business. Gulftainer, a subsidiary of UAE-based conglomerate Crescent Enterprises, said the opening comes one year after Canaveral Port Authority signed a 35-year agreement with GT USA, the US arm of Gulftainer, to operate and further develop the container and multipurpose cargo terminal. Gulftainer’s Khorfakkan Terminal Sets Record Unloading

UAE based Gulftainer, a terminal operating and logistics company, set a new record for the handling of the largest unloading and loading of a single vessel call at its Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT), at 19,561 TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalent unit). It handled 19,561 20-foot-equivalent units of containers in 54.4 hours on a single call at its Khorfakkan Container Terminal in at Sharjah. The terminal staff completed the record breaking call of the CMA CGM Jules Verne container ship with the help of 11 cranes. Port Canaveral Receives ‘A’ Bond Rating

With $617 million in capital projects planned and under way for expansion of its cruise and cargo operations moving forward, Canaveral Port Authority has received Fitch’s  ‘A’ rating for $26.9 million of outstanding revenue bonds, series 2005 and 2006 A&B, and a rating of ‘stable’ for  all Port bonds. Fitch attributed the rating affirmation to Port Canaveral’s established operating history, recent sustained tourism-related revenue growth and the corresponding favorable operating contracts and cost management, aggressive, but flexible, capital program and no anticipated borrowing.

Canaveral Upgrades Bulk Conveyor System

The new $1.5 million bulk conveyor system at Port Canaveral was utilized for the first time by Martin Marietta when the Bahamas Spirit discharged limestone at South Cargo Pier 4.   The Canaveral Port Authority invested in the system with Martin Marietta to enhance terminal operational efficiencies and increase productivity. The new and improved conveyor system is now capable of offloading 2,000 tons per hour.   Martin Marietta imports various aggregates and sells and distributes them from their Port Canaveral facility into the Central Florida region.
