SMS Towage Buys Tug from Sanmar

Sanmar Shipyards said it has reached a deal to sell one of its 2020-built tugboats to SMS Towage, the UK’s largest family-owned towage company.The contract is for the purchase of Sirapinar XV, a vessel based on the RAmparts 2200 design from Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd, which is currently operating as part of Sanmar’s fleet.Designed for maximum efficiency in the performance of ship-handling duties for seagoing ships, the 54-tonnes bollard pull Sirapinar XV will be the third Sirapinar series tug in the SMS Towage fleet…

Port of Luleå 36m Hybrid Icebreaker Tug Delivered

The powerful 36 meter hybrid icebreaker tug Vilja was delivered to her Owner, Port of Luleå, on June 26th, 2019 at Gondan Shipyard in Spain. On July 4th, Vilja arrived in Luleå and the crew was very satisfied with the first sailing experience and tug performance on the journey home. The vessel will soon be used for ice management, firefighting and navigation aids service duties in the Port of Luleå, Sweden and will assist ships and conduct coastal towing in the northern sector of the Gulf of Bothnia.Vilja is a 36 meter TundRA 3600–H, Icebreaking Escort Tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd.

Baglietto Hull Construction on Schedule

Italian custom superyacht builder Baglietto said that its construction of the hull no. 10225 is right on schedule, according to the program that will be launched next spring.The new 55-meter hull is part of Baglietto’s traditional platform (the T-Line) designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design, said a press release.The vessel’s soft and sleek lines reflect Baglietto’s traditional Italian style, and, together with the lowered gunwales and side air vents, will embody the Seagull brand’s unmistakable aesthetic features. Fincantieri, Grimaldi Sign Cruise Revamp Deal

The construction of the two mid-body sections will begin in 2018, while the completion of the works at Palermo shipyard is foreseen within summer 2019. The two vessels, currently in service on the daily route Civitavecchia- Porto Torres-Barcelona with the “Grimaldi Lines” livery, have been built by Fincantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia and delivered to the Neapolitan group in 2007 and 2008 respectively. They are 225 meters long, having a gross tonnage of 54,000 tons and capacity of transporting about 3,000 passengers, a 2,400 square meters car deck and approx. 3,000 linear meters for heavy vehicles. Uzmar to Build Escort Tug for Saam Smit Canada

Turkish shipbuilder Uzmar Shipyard has inked a deal with Saam Smit Canada Inc. (SST Canada), a joint venture partnership between Boskalis of the Netherlands and Saam S.A of Chile, for the construction of a new escort tug for operations in British Columbia, Canada. Designer Robert Allan Ltd. said the state-of-the-art RAstar 3200-W tug will be capable of safely performing all ship-handling roles, including berthing, unberthing and escort duties, including in heavier weather conditions.

Gulf Coast Shipyard Delivers MY Imagine

Gulf Coast Shipyard Group (GCSG) has delivered the Motor Yacht Imagine. The M.Y. Imagine, a Trinity built yacht, is a 193’x 32’x 14’6” custom designed semi-displacement aluminum hull and superstructure vessel that was constructed in GCSG’s yard located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The vessel meets the highest quality yacht standards in the world. It was designed by GCSG and is ABS classed for commercial yachting service. M.Y. Imagine is designed to accommodate 12 guests and a crew of 14 including a captain.

Vigor Delivers New Towboat to Tidewater

Tidewater Transportation and Terminals today marked delivery of the second of a series of three towboats, the Granite Point. The vessel, built by Portland’s Vigor, follows towboat Crown Point, which began operations along the Columbia Snake River (CSR) in May 2015. Like the Crown Point, the Granite Point is a custom-built, environmentally-friendly towboat that was specifically designed by CT Marine, Naval Architects and Marine Engineers of Edgecomb, Maine, to serve Tidewater’s customers.

Teras Offshore, along with Global Maritime & ASL Shipyard in Batam, Indonesia announce the completion of full height jacking trials of the 'Teras Sunrise'. The Teras Sunrise is the second 'Service Jack' design developed by Global Maritime, a jack-up construction vessel with a payload of up to 7,200 tonnes, outfitted with four jack-up legs for jacking operations in the North Sea in up to 80m water depth. She has accommodation for 160 persons with the option to increase to 260 using Pullman berths.

Teras Sunrise Passes Jacking Trials

Teras Offshore, along with Global Maritime and ASL Shipyard in Batam, Indonesia announced the completion of full height jacking trials of the Teras Sunrise. The trials were completed on February 7 and mark another successful milestone in the Teras Sunrise reactivation project. The Teras Sunrise is the second "Service Jack" design developed by Global Maritime. The vessel is a jack-up construction vessel with a payload of up to 7,200 metric tons, outfitted with four jack-up legs for jacking operations in the North Sea in up to 80m water depth.

Robert Allan Designed M.V. Vortex

Solent Towage Ltd. of Southampton, UK, a division of Østensjø Rederi AS of Haugesund, Norway recently took delivery of their latest high-performance tug from Astilleros Gondan SA. The aptly-named Vortex is designated as an AVT 37/80 Class, and is the latest of the AVT series of Voith-powered escort tug designs from Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver BC. The Vortex was designed to perform a wide range of tasks, including: ship-handling, tanker escort, ocean towing, salvage and anchor handling duties.

New Handysize Tug Completes Seatrials

Great Lakes Shipyard has successfully completed seatrials of the “HANDY-ONE”, the first tug of the new HANDYSIZE Class to be delivered to TUGZ International, LLC, the well-known and successful owner and charterer of a fleet of Z-Class tractor tugs. Both the new HANDYSIZE Class and the Z-Class tugs were designed for Tugz by Jensen Maritime Consultants, Seattle. The sea trials, including speed and endurance trials were performed in the icy waters of Lake Eire under freezing winter conditions.

Fincantieri To Build Ferry For SNCM

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has signed a contract with France's SNCM to build a 44,500 gt ferry to be used mainly on the Marseilles to North Africa routes. The new vessel will be 574 ft. (175 m) long and able to transport 2,200 passengers in 470 cabins and 320 pullman seats. The ferry will also accommodate 700 cars, a Fincantieri spokesperson said. No financial details were given, but industry sources said the contract was worth around $126 million. The ferry will be built in Fincantieri's Ancona yard and delivered in spring 2002.

"This contract confirms the company's presence in the large ferry market sector, at present there are nine ferries in our orderbook," said Fincantieri Managing Director Pier Francesco Guarguaglini.

Sea Containers Announces Sale of Folkestone Port

Sea Containers Ltd., marine container lessor, passenger and freight transport operator and leisure industry investor, today announced that it had sold its subsidiary Folkestone Properties Ltd, owners of Folkestone Harbour on the south east coast of the United Kingdom. Contracts were signed for the port sale on July 2, 2004 and the purchase, by businessman Mr Roger De Haan who is well known as chairman of the Folkestone-based Saga Group, was completed on August 24, 2004. The sale price was $20 million (GBP11 million). President of Sea Containers Ltd., Mr James B. Sherwood, said the gain will be recorded in the company's third quarter results.

Governor Announces First Innovation Partnership Zones

Governor Chris Gregoire announced the designation of 11 Innovation Partnership Zones in Washington, geographic areas that will promote and develop the state’s regional economies. Innovation Partnership Zones build on the success around the world of “research parks,” such as the Research Triangle in North Carolina and Torrey Pines in California and bring together research and higher education opportunities, innovation and economic activity to be a strong engine for regional economies. “Washington is home to some of the greatest innovations in the world and I am excited to support the continued success of our state’s world-class companies,” said Governor Gregoire.
