Port of New Orleans Resumes Containership Operations After Hurricane Ida
Container vessel operations resumed at the Port of New Orleans on Tuesday, nine days after Hurricane Ida made landfall in southeast Louisiana as a category 4 storm.The first two ships worked at the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal were the MSC Charleston at New Orleans Terminal and the Hapag Lloyd CSL Manhattan at Ports America. Seacor’s container on barge service will be worked tonight by Ports America.“Our wharves are busy today, handling both container and breakbulk cargo vessels, and trains are moving,” said Brandy D.
New Orleans – Port Condition ZULU
In preparation for gale force winds from Tropical Storm Cindy, USCG Marine Safety Office New Orleans has set Port Condition ZULU. In addition, the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GICW) has been closed from the Inner Harbor Canal to Mile Marker (MM) 60 east of Harvey Locks, Long Beach, Mississippi. Trash Skimmer Boats
United Marine International LLC, of Baltimore, has delivered new Trashcat skimmer vessels to the cities of Baltimore and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The City of Baltimore took delivery of the first of two low profile Trashcat boats. UMI Model #TC-200L, with a 200 cu. ft. on-board storage capacity, is designed with a side-mounted operator's cab, which provides the operator with nearly seven ft. of overhead clearance. The second vessel, UMI Model #TC-200LP, has a unique extra low profile, which is obtained by providing a side-mounted operator's cab with a tilt-over feature. The City of Baltimore specified the design to enable the skimmer to maneuver under pedestrian bridges specially designed with low slopes to assist handicapped tourists to cross its Inner Harbor canal systems.
