CG to Set Port Condition ZULU in the U.S. Virgin Islands

The Coast Guard Captain of the Port San Juan anticipates setting Port Condition Zulu at 8 p.m. Monday in the U.S. Virgins Islands due to the possibility of gale force winds from Tropical Storm Karen arriving to the area within 12 hours.Ports in Puerto Rico will remain in Port Condition X-Ray until further notice.During Port Condition ZULU the port is closed to all vessel traffic with the exception of vessel traffic specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port.Ports in Port Condition X-RAY will remain open to all commercial traffic and all cargo transfer operations at Coast Guard regulated facilities may continue while X-RAY remains…

USCG Sets Port Condition Zulu for Charleston

Effective 8 a.m. Wednesday, the Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) set Port Condition Zulu for the Port of Charleston due to the anticipated arrival of sustained gale force winds from Hurricane Dorian within 12 hours.During port condition Zulu, no vessels may enter or transit within the port without permission of the COTP. The Coast Guard and port partners will assess the condition of the port as soon as it is safe to do so in order to expedite the lifting of vessel restrictions.WARNINGThe Coast Guard’s search and rescue capabilities degrade as storm conditions strengthen.

Hurricane Florence Barrels in on US East Coast

Port Canaveral Resumes Operations

As of 12 noon today, the U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) approved restricted commercial vessel transit through Port Canaveral to allow the port to support the arrival of critical fuel supplies destined for Florida consumers, and to receive cruise ships that were diverted from Port Canaveral prior to the arrival of Hurricane Irma. Port Canaveral previously had limited operations capability due to lack of water and limited electric power. However, this update to the port's Condition Zulu confirms the port's ability to regain full operational capability over the next few days, as efforts are well underway at Port Canaveral to resume normal operations. Captain of the Port sets Port Condition ZULU, Closing Ports

The Captain of the Port for New York and New Jersey set port condition ZULU for all commercial waterways, effective 7 a.m., Monday,  in preparation for Hurricane Sandy. During Port Condition ZULU (sustained gale force winds from a hurricane force storm are predicted within 12 hours) the ports will remain closed to all incoming and outgoing vessel traffic until directed by the Captain of the Port. Owners and operators of recreational vessels should follow the small craft advisories from the National Weather Service, and take the necessary measures to safeguard the safety of their vessels. "Coast Guard Sector New York's number one priority is the safety of life at sea for mariners and our first responders," said Capt. Gregory Hitchen, deputy commander Coast Guard Sector New York.

Texas Preps for Storms

The US Coast Guard issued a press release stating that preparations are underway for arrival of Tropical Storm Edouard, which is expected to make landfall on Tuesday near Galveston.  Sector Houston-Galveston issued a Marine Safety Information Bulletin setting Port Condition Zulu and prohibiting vessel movement as of 2000, August 4.  Cargo operations were prohibited after 2200.  Mariners should exercise extreme caution.  (HK Law).

New Orleans – Port Condition ZULU

In preparation for gale force winds from Tropical Storm Cindy, USCG Marine Safety Office New Orleans has set Port Condition ZULU. In addition, the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GICW) has been closed from the Inner Harbor Canal to Mile Marker (MM) 60 east of Harvey Locks, Long Beach, Mississippi. Preparations for Tropical Storm

The US Coast Guard is advising mariners in the eastern Gulf of Mexico to make all necessary preparations for tropical storm Alberto. Sector Mobile issued a Marine Safety Information Bulletin setting Port Condition ZULU and closing the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway from Panama City to the eastern boundary of the sector. Sector St. Petersburg issued a Press Release stating that it has set Hurricane Condition 4 – Whiskey – and recommending that commercial vessels greater than 500 gross tons depart the port. A subsequent Press Release stated that Hurricane Condition 2 – Yankee – has been set for the Port of Tampa. The storm is expected to make landfall near Apalachee Bay, Florida at about noon on June 13 and then move up the Atlantic coast of the United States. Source: HK Law
