CMA CGM Marco Polo Fitted with Marinestar

Fugro Seastar AS announced that CMA CGM Marco Polo has been fitted with Marinestar maneuvering system to assist in berthing and navigation. The satellite aided navigation technology is based on composite GPS and GLONASS constellations and measures precise speeds at the bow and the stern together with quay distances to assist the vessel safely to the berth. The Marinestar system provides speed and heading information to a higher level of accuracy than conventional navigational aids such as doppler log and gyro compass. In addition to its navigation and berthing functions, Marinestar Maneuvering System is able to measure vessel trim fore and aft trim dynamically whilst underway at sea.

IMCA Puts DP in the Spotlight

As befits the 50th anniversary of the advent of dynamic positioning (DP), the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has turned the spotlight on this invaluable technology. MarineSTAR System for Oasis of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas has completed her maiden voyage sailing from the STX shipyard in Turku Finland to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale Fla., to commence a series of winter cruises in the Caribbean. Measuring 361m in length and with a beam of 66m Oasis of the Seas carries up to 5,400 guests – some in split level loft style staterooms. New DGNSS From Kongsberg Seatex

Kongsberg Seatex, a specialist in position reference systems, has unveiled the latest additions to its DPS (Differential Position Sensor) product portfolio. Two new products, DPS 110 and DPS 112, have been developed to utilize the new Global Satellite Based Augmentation System (Global SBAS) introduced by the navigation specialist Fugro SeaSTAR AS, the SeaSTAR SGG service.
