Insights: Morton S. Bouchard  III - President and CEO, Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc. When it comes to iconic, East Coast mainstays of the U.S. maritime industry, probably one of the first names that come to mind is ‘Bouchard.’ Likewise, Morton S. Bouchard III, who has served as President of Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc., the nation’s largest independently-owned oceangoing petroleum barge company since 1996, also needs no introduction to Marine News [and Marine Link] readers.

Construction Continues on New Bouchard ATB

Bollinger Gulf Repair L.L.C., a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., shipyard, has completed the retrofit of a Bouchard Coastwise Management Co., tug and barge to an articulated (ATB) unit utilizing the Intercon Coupler System. The 446-foot, 125,000 BBL (barrel) black oil Barge B. No.175 which was renamed Barge B. No.275, was transformed from a single hull to double hull vessel to meet the requirements of OPA ‘90. Her stern was modified with the matching Intercon ladder to accept the bow of the 127-foot tug CAPT. FRED BOUCHARD, which was retrofitted with ram assemblies of the Intercon system.

Bollinger Announces Myriad of Contracts at New Orleans Workboat Show

Bollinger Shipyards, Lockport, La. has added a 220 class offshore supply vessel (OSV) to the company’s continually growing series of OSV’s that provide cargo capacities of much larger vessels while lowering operating costs. Scott Theriot, executive vice president, New Construction said, “Just as our 145 and 166-ft. class boats have capacities of larger OSV’s, this new 220 class has the cargo and drilling muds capacities of vessels up to 240-ft. MNM Boats of Golden Meadow, La., a subsidiary of C&G Boats, has signed a contract for the first of two new 220 designs and will take delivery of the first boat in October 2002 and the second vessel in January 2003.

Bouchard Signs Contracts With Bollinger

Bouchard Coatwise Management, Corp., Hicksville, N.Y., one of the largest operators of double hull articulated tug/barge ATB units in the U.S., has joined the list of Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. customers with the signing of a contract for Bollinger to build two 6,000 HP tugs, and two double-hull, clean product ocean-going barges that meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA ’90). One will have a 110,000-barrel capacity and the other will be able to carry 135,000 barrels. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The tugs will be built at Bollinger’s Lockport, La., division and the barges will be constructed at Bollinger-Gretna in Harvey, La.

ATB New Construction and Retrofits Highlight Order Books for Southern Shipyards

Late last year was a high water mark of sorts in the Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) business. In December, Crowley Maritime of Seattle, Wash. took delivery of their fourth ATB, featuring a 9,280 HP tug and a 155,000 barrel barge. Bay Shipbuilding, Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. built the barge. and the tug by sister company Marinette Marine, Manitowoc, Mich. At about the same time on the east coast K-Sea Transportation was taking delivery of their fourth ATB unit from Bollinger Shipyards, Lockport, La. All four of these new units featured new 80,000-100,000 barrel barges and existing tugs fitted with the JAK coupler system. In 2004, ATB construction has slowed a bit, but several companies continue contracting for retrofitted and new ATB units.

Bollinger Contracted to Build Two for Bouchard

Bouchard’s B.No. 225, sister hull to the announced newbuilds, B. No. 280 and B.No. 205, travels down the Mississippi River on her maiden voyage following delivery from Bollinger. Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. of Lockport, Louisiana and Bouchard Coastwise Management, Corp., Hicksville, N.Y., one of the largest operators of double hull articulated tug/barge (ATB) units in the United States, signed a contract for Bollinger to build two double-hull, ocean-going barges that meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90). These two additions will give Bouchard fourteen OPA’90 barges in their fleet. This addition to the Bollinger yards portfolio, will bring the delivered OPA’90 barge count to thirty-three when both units are delivered.

Bollinger to Build Two for Bouchard

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. of Lockport, La., and Bouchard Coastwise Management, Corp., Hicksville, N.Y., one of the largest operators of double hull articulated tug/barge (ATB) units in the United States, signed a contract for Bollinger to build two double-hull, ocean-going barges that meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA'90). These two additions will give Bouchard 14 OPA'90 barges in its fleet. This addition to the Bollinger yards portfolio, will bring the delivered OPA'90 barge count to 33 when both units are delivered. Following on the success of the recent Bollinger delivered ATB's, 110,000 barrel B. No.225 with tug Jane A. Bouchard and delivery of the 145,000 barrel B. No.242 with the tug Morton S.

Bouchard Coastwise Management Co., Hicksville, N.Y., has added to its growing fleet of double-hull articulated ocean-going tug/barge units (ATB) with the delivery from Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., of the 130-ft. tug Jane A. Bouchard and the 430-ft., 110,000 barrel (BBL) class double-hull oil Barge B. No. 225 that meets the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA '90). oil or other cargo should the hull be pierced. Barge B. No. 225 is the 10th OPA '90 barge in the Bouchard fleet. News: New Bouchard Transportation ATB Launched at Bollinger

The first of its two double-hull, clean product, ocean-going, articulated tug and barge (ATB) units is ready for sea trails and is being outfitted for delivery at Bollinger Shipyards, Morton Bouchard III, President and CEO of Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc. "In 1990, our company embarked on a long-term business plan that has been moving forward for over a decade. Our management initiated an aggressive building plan that includes the retrofit of single-hull barges and a new building program which includes two new articulated tugs and barges that will strategically position the organization in the petroleum transportation industry. The new double-hull ATB units are major components of a business plan that will take us to where we want to be by 2005.

New Bouchard ATB To Be Launched at Bollinger

Morton Bouchard III, President and CEO of Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc and Bouchard Coastwise Management Corporation, announced that the first of its two double-hull, clean product, ocean-going, articulated tug and barge (ATB) units is ready for sea trails and is being outfitted for delivery at Bollinger Shipyards in Louisiana. In his statement to the press, Mr. Bouchard said, "In 1990, our company embarked on a long-term business plan that has been moving forward for over a decade. Our management initiated an aggressive building plan that includes the retrofit of single-hull barges and a new building program which includes two new articulated tugs and barges that will strategically position the organization in the petroleum transportation industry.
