America’s largest military shipbuilding company Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced on Monday that Danny Hernandez will succeed Beci Brenton as the company’s corporate director of public affairs upon Brenton’s October 31 retirement. Crowley Orders BWT System Retrofits

Crowley Maritime Corporation has entered into strategic partnership agreement with South Korean-based green technology developer Panasia Co., Ltd. for ballast water treatment systems to be installed during retrofitting of its ATB fleet. The agreement also includes technical services, engineering, integration, commissioning, training, scheduled delivery and spare parts. Panasia GloEn-Patrol treatment system utilizes a filter to remove 50 micron or larger size organisms and medium-pressure UV lamps to disinfect smaller organisms.

Kenyan Port Workers Strike Over Higher Health Costs

More than 2,000 workers at East Africa's biggest port in Kenya's coastal city Mombasa went on strike on Wednesday protesting an increase in the amount they will have to pay for state-run health insurance. Cargo ships remained unattended as workers gathered and held discussions in groups at the port, the biggest in the region, which handles imports such as fuel for Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia. "The operations section is among those affected but senior officials at the port are currently meeting, and will communicate later," Sylvan Mghanga, an official from the corporate communications department at the port, told Reuters.

MISC may Sell AET Tanker Holdings

MISC Bhd  is selling AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd, which owns a fleet of 74 crude oil and product tankers, to US-listed Teekay Tankers Ltd, reports local media. AET is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia's MISC Bhd. and a major global shipowner and operator with a fleet of around 80 tankers including 13 VLCCs, 48 Aframaxes and four Suezmaxes. MISC is a subsidiary of Malaysian energy conglomerate Petronas. “MISC is not in a position to comment on Teekay’s business plans,” the shipping company’s corporate communications arm responded when asked to verify news reported by Oslo-based shipping press Tradewinds. “It is difficult to quantify the disposal gain at this point of time without the actual acquisition price,” Kenanga Research said.

MTN Broadband Coverage Expanding

After launching its Terrestrial Broadband Network (TBN) just more than one year ago, MTN Communications (MTN) announces the number of TBN-connected cruise ships has doubled and covered regions have tripled. Since the MTN TBN kick-off in Alaska in the Summer 2013 cruise season, several MTN partners, including Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises, are leveraging this new technology to enrich their passenger and crew communications experience. Voith Wins 'Best PR Picture of the Year' Award

Voith has won the award for the best PR picture of the year at the “PR Bild Award 2014” (renowned award for PR pictures). Yesterday, on Thursday, the photograph of a Voith turbine runner was declared the winner of the “PR Bild Award”. The presentation ceremony took place at the Nugloss Gallery Stilwerk in Hamburg during a festive evening event. The “PR Bild Award” is a prestigious competition headed by the dpa subsidiary News Aktuell. In 2014, the prize, which is much coveted among PR and image experts, was awarded for the tenth time. “Exceptionally beautiful. Even more: pure aesthetics,” was the jury’s verdict on this photo of the Voith turbine runner.
