SENESCO Signs Contract, Launches Barge for Cancer Awareness Program

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) of North Kingstown, R.I., signed a major contract with Barges Unlimited, a subsidiary of Seaboats, Inc., of Fall River, Mass., to build an 80,000-bbl, 320-ft. double hull barge. The contract value is in excess of $6.5 million. With this contract signing, SENESCO will manufacture the largest double-hull barge ever constructed in the northeastern U.S. Work on the project is expected to take up to one year to complete. When finished, the barge will be used by Seaboats for the transportation and delivery of light oil products. SENESCO currently employs 110 people. However, with the addition of this contract and other business, the shipyard expects to add 40 to 50 new skilled workers to the staff.

Senesco Signs Contracts

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation announced that it has signed contracts for the construction of three barges and pier floats that have an estimated value of approximately $3 million. The first contract is for the Hughes Marine out of New Jersey. The contract calls for the construction of a 160 ft. deck barge. This project, the fourth such project Senesco has handled for Hughes, is expected to take eight weeks. The second contract with Cashman Equipment of Boston is for the construction of two identical deck barges that are 180 ft. in length and have heavy dek loading capabilities. The vessel wil be used as a construction barge and will be able to hold 4,000 lbs. per sq. foot, while most industry vessels are capable of supporting 2,000 lbs. per sq. foot.

News: SENESCO Becomes Senesco Marine

The Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) announced recently that the company formally changed its name to Senesco Marine and instituted a sweeping new design and build process to enhance the speed with which the company can design, build and deliver barges. Gary C. Schuler, who was recently appointed chief executive officer, said that SENESCO has grown beyond its original focus as a Southeastern New England shipbuilding company. "Our most recent double hulled barge was built for a west coast customer and we continue to see increased activity out of our New Orleans office," said Schuler. The change is not as superficial as a name change alone, however, and Schuler touted the company's new partnership with Guarino & Cox, a respected naval architecture firms.

The company formally changed its name to Senesco Marine, and to prove that the metamorphosis is much more than skin-deep, has instituted a sweeping new design and build process to enhance the speed with which the company can design, build and deliver barges. SENESCO Purchases PERCEPTION

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) of North Kingston, R.I. has purchased a production planning and resource management system, PERCEPTION, from SPAR Associates, Inc., Annapolis, Md. The PC Windows-based system integrates major business activities of the shipyard: cost estimating; planning and scheduling; purchasing, production inventory, and vendor invoice control; work order time charge management; job costing, progressing and resource requirements forecasting; and automated customer billing. PERCEPTION has been fully integrated with Microsoft's Great Plains Dynamics accounting system and has links to a variety of CAD software products. SPAR also has been contracted to provide training and implementation support services.

SENESCO Announces Contract

The Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO), announced that it signed its largest barge contract to date to build a 332 x 74 ft. double-hulled liquid fuel barge. The contract’s value is in excess of $7 million and creates an immediate opening for twenty new employees, a move that will increase SENESCO’s workforce to just under 200 employees. The contract comes with options for two additional barges that, if exercised, will ensure full employment at SENESCO for the next two years. SENESCO president Robert Jarvis said he expects the company to begin hiring immediately to fill twenty openings and urges anyone interested in applying to contact SENESCO at 401-295-0373.

SENESCO Wins Barge Contract

The Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) will build a 180-ft. barge at Quonset Point, R.I., for John P. Picone Inc., a general contractor from Lawrence, N.Y. This is the ninth barge order SENESCO has received since it began operations in November 1999. In addition, SENESCO has manufactured a number of barge-like structures or "floats" used in marinas for passenger, gambling and other craft in Lynn and Boston, Mass. The Picone Vessel will be used as a construction barge in the New York area. All five vessels built so far at SENESCO are deck barges and have the capability of carrying heavy crawler cranes.

SENESCO to Build Its First Double-Hull Barge

The Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO), Quonset, R.I., will soon enter a new phase of shipbuilding when it begins construction of its first double-hull barge for transporting liquids with a potential environment impact. The vessel- to be built under the 11th contract awarded to SENESCO - will carry 98 percent pure sulfuric acid in Baltimore Harbor between two manufacturing plants for Millenium Inorganic Chemical Company. Based in Ashtabula, Ohio, Millennium manufactures the acid in one plant and then transports it to a factory seven miles away. The 70-ft.barge will carry 7,000 gallons. "Obviously, the integrity of the welding and general manufacturing process is paramount when you consider the cargo," said Robert G. Homan, SENESCO president and CEO.

Construction has already begun and is expected to be completed this fall. The barge is being built for Disch Construction of Summit, New Jersey who will use the barge to transport dredge spoils. Today’s news coincides with SENESCO’s announcement of a major expansion of the company’s executive team to include the hiring of SENESCO’s first chief financial officer. “The growing reputation of SENESCO within the U.S. shipbuilding industry continues to generate new opportunities for our 200 employees,” said SENESCO President Bob Jarvis.

Construction has already begun and is expected to be completed this fall. The barge is being built for Disch Construction of Summit, N.J. who will used the barge to transport dredge spoils. This contract coincides with SENESCO’s executive team expansion which includes the hiring of their first CFO. “The growing reputation of SENESCO within the U.S. shipbuilding industry continues to generate new opportunities for our 200 employees,” said SENESCO president Bob Jarvis. The Disch contract represents SENESCO’s 32nd new construction contract since it completed its first barge in 2000.

SENESCO Expands Management Team

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) has appointed four new executives in a move prompted by the company’s growth over the past six months. The new executives include the company’s first chief financial officer and other senior level financial and operations staff. Gordon W. Fletcher, appointed as SENESCO’s first CFO, will direct the company’s financial affairs, including overseeing all contracts, developing financial statements, implementing new financial policies and procedures and supervising the accounting department. Fletcher is a CPA who received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Natal in Durban, South Africa. While in South Africa, he worked as an audit supervisor for KPMG and as a finance manager for a construction general contractor.

Senesco Makes FTZ Application

The Department of Commerce issued a Notice stating that an application has been submitted by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation requesting authority on behalf of Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (Senesco) to construct and repair oceangoing vessels under foreign trade zone (FTZ) procedures. SENESCO Performs Facelift on NOAA’s Albatross IV

Most research ships don’t live to see their 40’s, and to approach 50 is almost unheard-of. But the Albatross IV is quite an exception to this maritime rule. Today, thanks to a recent overhaul at SENESCO’s repair facility in Quonset Point, Rhode Island, she is back at her home base in Woods Hole, Massachusetts preparing to head back out to sea for another 5-7 years of ocean exploration. The Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) began its a major overhaul on the Albatross IV at the company’s Quonset Point headquarters in December 2002. Launched in 1962, the Albatross IV is the second oldest in a fleet of 15 research vessels used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

SENESCO Signs $6.5 Million Barge Building Contract

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO), North Kingstown, R.I., has penned a contract with Barges Unlimited of Fall River, Mass. to construct an 80,000-barrel, 320-ft. (97.5 m) double hull barge valued at more than $6.5 million. Per the agreement, SENESCO will manufacture the largest double hull barge ever constructed in the Northeast. Work is expected to commence immediately and is expected to take up to one year for completion, at which time it will be utilized by Seaboats for transportation and delivery of light oil products.

Startup Company Aims to Revitalize Economy

Through a series of coincidental meetings, Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) was formed by seven individuals with different, unique backgrounds. Although only three of the original seven founders are still involved with the company, the focus remains the same. In fact, the young company is expecting its first delivery this autumn. According to Richard Carpenter, president and director of the company, the seven founders joined up during the winter months of 1993 and 1994. Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with SeaAmerica Cruise Lines, Inc., based in Hollywood, Fla. Under the MOA, LSS and SeaAmerica will develop a ship design leading to contract negotiations for the construction of two 42,000-ton, 1,000-passenger cruise ships. The program will include options for two additional ships. Construction of the ships would utilize both of Litton Ship Systems' production facilities, Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and Litton Avondale Industries in New Orleans, and would maximize the resources and experience of both shipyards to achieve operating synergies. Senesco Christens Double-Hulled Liquid Fuel Barge

The Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) has christened another 80,000-barrel, double-hulled liquid fuel barge. After a ceremony last week at SENESCO’s Quonset Point, RI headquarters, the Leo was ready to set sail for its Gulf Coast destination. The Leo was built for the Hawaiian Inter Island Towing company, which will lease the vessel to Sirrius Maritime of Seattle, Wash. Sirrius will then use the barge to carry fuel oil and other liquid cargo in the Gulf Coast.
