Wilhelmsen Q4 2009 Results

The Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA (WW) maritime industry group achieved an operating income of USD 3.4 billion in 2008, up by more than 25% compared with 2007. The shipping and maritime services segments are the main contributors to the improved top line. The operating income for the year totalled USD 3 434.2 million, compared with USD 2 727.6 million in 2007. Net operating profit came to USD 351.6 million, compared with USD 265.7 million. Operating income for the fourth quarter amounted to USD 853.4 million, up from USD 740.1 million for the same period in 2007. Nor-Shipping 2009 Defies Economic Downturn

Nor-Shipping 2009 was the largest in the event’s history, dating back to 1967. 1105 exhibitors from 52 countries participated. By comparison, Nor-Shipping 2007, which took place in the midst of a market boom, had 830 exhibitors from 42 countries. The Leading Voices conference that opened Nor-Shipping 2009 on Tuesday, June 9 got the show off to a favorable start. Attended by Norway’s King Harald V, the conference featured leaders of global stature, including IMO Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos, and Richard Fain and Wilh. Wilhelmsen of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

NorShipping ‘09 a Success

When NorShipping 2009 closed on June 12, the organized had claimed a record numbers of visitors; a total of 15,999, along with a total of 17,780 exhibitor representatives (1105 exhibitors from 52 countries). Given the current status of the world economy and the prospects for a protracted recovery, it is a testament to the brand built in Oslo that NorShipping could command an increase in traffic of 15% versus 2007. “We believed that the market downturn would lead the maritime industry to think again how it reaches out to the market,” said Tollef Schiander, Director for NorShipping. “Companies concentrate their resources on those activities and marketplaces that get results. This year’s Nor-Shipping was more popular than ever.

WW Group Reports First 9 Months

The WW group, Wilh. Wilhelmsen, posted an operating profit of $217.6m for the first nine months of 2008, compared with $206.9m in 2007. Total operating income for the first nine months was $2.6b as against $2b for the same period of 2007. Profit before taxes came to $121.8m, compared with $190.8m. Total operating income for the group in the third quarter of 2008 amounted to $866.6m, up 23% from $704.3m in 2007, while operating profit came to $83.1m compared with $85.4m last year. Group profit before tax and minority interests amounted to $40.5m, with a profit after tax and minorities of $37.6m, down from $78.8m and $74.8m from the corresponding quarter in 2007. Wilhelmsen Acquires Unitor

Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA (WW) reached agreement to acquire 90.4 per cent of the shares in Norway's Unitor group. This acquisition accords with WW's strategy of developing its Wilhelmsen Maritime Services (WMS) subsidiary into a leading global player in the maritime services sector. The deal has been concluded with Unitor's principal shareholders - Umoe Industri AS, the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme Fund and Odin Forvaltning. Their holdings corresponds to 90.4 percent of the outstanding shares in the company, and the agreed price is $11.36 (NOK 73.50) per share. This deal allows WW to secure the rest of the Unitor shares. The total purchase price for all the stock will be just over $2.2 billion (NOK 1.4 billion).

Continued Success for WW

Continued progress characterized results for Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA (WW) in the first half of 2005. The group has never delivered such high quarterly figures, including an operating income of $511 million in 2Q 2005 (vs. $452 million in 2Q 2004). WW's net operating profit for the second quarter was $72 million, an improvement of $15 million from the same period of 2004. Profit before tax for the quarter came to $64 million, compared with $51 million for April-June last year. "We are very satisfied with this development," says WW chief executive Ingar Skaug. The first half of 2005 yielded a total operating income of $986 million, compared with $874 million for the same period of last year.
