The essential software tool, now in its 14th edition includes an enhanced and increasingly critical dangerous goods program, which has been developed in-house, as one of its key functions. KR-CON offers a comprehensive electronic database of International Maritime Organization (IMO) instruments, providing all of the latest IMO Conventions, Codes, Resolutions and Circulars. By simply inputting a ship’s particulars, KR-CON allows the user to find all of the regulations relevant to a specific task and helps to ensure that all of the IMO requirements are applied correctly.

With the new release of Synergi Water software, water network engineers can model open channel flow, providing a more efficient and time saving design process with more accurate results. Many water systems include a network of open channels to transport water, particularly from collection systems to treatment plants. Planners and engineers need to model these systems along with their closed pipe networks in order to optimize the design and operations. Until now, some users have refrained from modelling open channels while others have used models in two separate software systems to model the water flow in both closed pipe networks and in open channels. This can be a cumbersome and time-consuming process.

AXSMarine has launched an upgrade to AXSTanker – commonly known as AXSTanker4.0, a software solution for competitive shipbrokers in the Crude, Clean, Gas, Chemical and Product tanker space. Within the AXSTanker community, brokers have the option to share vessel position updates with other members or keep them private for their own company’s use. Since its introduction in 2004, more than 100 shipbroking companies have signed up to AXSTanker. Over the next couple of months, AXSMarine will be rolling out the new AXSTanker 4.0 in phases, to more than 1,100 users across 30 cities around the world.

Royal Australian Navy Minehunter, HMAS Yarra, has been undertaking an underwater search off Papua New Guinea for HMAS AE1, the Navy’s first submarine. AE1 was lost without a trace on September 14, 1914, with her full crew of three officers and 32 sailors. The Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett AO, CSC RAN, said the search had been ongoing for many years, and Yarra’s crew was up to the task: “The full expertise and training of the crew will be brought to bear in aid of the search. Commanding Officer of HMAS Yarra, Lieutenant Commander Brendan O’Hara, said a number of scenarios had been considered in determining the search area. These included ‘last sighted’ reports by HMAS Parramatta (I) as well as local historical accounts.

The Coast Guard announces the availability of Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) 01-13, “Inspection and Certification of Vessels Under the Maritime Security Program (MSP).” The MSP serves as a means for establishing a fleet of commercially viable and militarily useful vessels to meet national defense as well as other security requirements. NVIC 01-13 sets forth the Coast Guard's policies and procedures regarding the inspection and certification of vessels under the MSP.

Shipping software company AXSMarine has announced the release of AXSTanker 3.1, an enhanced version of its AXSTanker product. New options will enable Tanker brokers to access AIS and Fixtures information. AXSTanker 3.1 is optimized to produce a great user experience, while integrating two new optional  features. The first feature is a fixture option, which offers supplementary information to users in their bottom panel. This information is proprietary to their company only, which means no other AXSTanker member can see the fixture information they enter: it is fully private. Entering and searching fixtures using the fixture module is also available in the launcher menu, including importantly optional rates and multi-grade entries.
