IFCHOR Galbraiths Acquires UNO Offshore

International shipbroker IFCHOR Galbraiths (IG) will be providing offshore brokerage services in the oil and gas market following its acquisition of Norwegian offshore specialist UNO Offshore.Founded in 2010, with a seven-strong team based in Bergen and Haugesund, UNO Offshore focuses on providing chartering, newbuild, sale and purchase, research and consulting services related to the oil and gas sector. Döhle, Costamare JV ‘Blue Net Chartering’ Operational

Germany's Peter Döhle and Greece's Costamare are merging operations of their container ships in a new  joint venture (JV) named  dubbed Blue Net Chartering headquartered in Hamburg. Blue Net Chartering will serve the container fleets operated by both as well as third-party vessels. It will provide brokerage services for 220 box ships with an aggregate capacity of 1.1M TEU. The official launch took place on 1 February. According to Costamare, the Blue Net Chartering aims to provide “best-in-class employment opportunities for containership owners. The JV is another milestone in the consolidation of container shipment  from the tramp-shipowner side. Peter Döhle’s container fleet consists of around 300 vessels, ranging from small feeder vessels of around 300 TEU up to ships of 13,000 TEU.

New ASD Tug for Saam Smit in Panama

Saam Smit Towage has ordered a new ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) 2411 tug from Damen Shipyards, for operations in the port of Colón, Panama. Built for stock at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam, it was subsequently transported to the Netherlands for finishing. With the agreement in place the new vessel, named the SST Portobelo, is now underway to join the 11-strong Saam Smit tug fleet in Panama. The SST Portobelo is the first ASD 2411 for Saam Smit in Panama. In October 2015, the company placed an order for an ASD Tug 2913, named the SST Rambala, which was delivered in May 2016.

Cosco Shipping 2016 Profit Dip

Cosco Shipping International (Hong Kong) has seen its profit for the year ended December 31, 2016 drop 29 percent to HKD 236.5 million (USD 30.4 million) from HKD 362 million (USD 46.6 million) reported a year earlier. Although the company’s operating profit dropped to HKD 544.2 million for the full year from HKD 690.7 million reported in 2015, Cosco Shipping International said that its revenue for the period increased to HKD 7.4 billion from HKD 5.9 billion. In 2016, world economy has experienced deep adjustment, while international trade growth remained subdued. The international shipping market supply and demand remained unbalanced, while dry bulk shipping index and container freight rate index had hit a record low last year.

Crowley Adds Houston-Caribbean LCL Service

Starting July 1, Crowley Maritime Corporation will offer weekly, fixed-day, less-than-container-load (LCL) shipping services from Houston to 33 port destinations throughout the Caribbean Basin, the shipper announced today. ISS Announces US Customs Brokerage Services

ISS Brokerage Services, part of maritime and logistics service provider Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), is now providing U.S. Customs brokerage services across all North American ports. The new facility has been introduced after US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) granted a National Brokerage Permit to ISS Brokerage Services to file customs entries remotely via Remote Location Filing (RLF). The company can now undertake customs brokerage in all North American ports outside its Houston base to offer a faster RLF electronic filling capability to clients in the US.

Thailand to LA Container Shipment Service

Yusen Logistics' new service from Thailand to Los Angeles features weekly departures as they expand in the LCL and Full Container Load (FCL) market. The service features weekly departures from Laem Chabang, Thailand every Sunday to arrive in Los Angeles 17 days later. Crowley Announces More Organizational Changes

Crowley Maritime Corporation has announced  additional organizational realignments within its shipping and logistics team effective Jan. 1, including the appointment of Nelly Yunta to vice president of sales, marketing and customer care, and the promotion of Pete Noyer to vice president of national accounts reporting to Yunta. Yunta, who most recently held the role of vice president of Customized Brokers, Crowley’s Miami-based customs brokerage subsidiary, will relocate from Miami to Jacksonville, Fla., for the position, but will continue to oversee Customized Brokers' operations in her new position. She will report to Frank Larkin, who was also recently promoted to the position of senior vice president and general manager for Crowley’s logistics division.

Willis Limited Awarded Contract for Panama Canal

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced that it has awarded a contract for insurance brokerage services to Willis Limited. Beginning October 2009, the firm will provide strategic counsel, as the ACP chooses the best policies to cover property, floating equipment, loss of income and maritime contingencies, among others. The contract will be for one year with an option to renew for three additional years. Willis Limited is also the ACP’s broker for its Owner Controlled Insurance Program that includes the Third Party Liability and Construction All Risk coverage for the design and construction of the new set of locks and the fourth dry excavation projects under the Panama Canal Expansion Program.

Bradford Serves First Freeport Customer

Bradford Grand Bahama, Ltd. (Bradford Marine Bahamas), a member of the Bradford Marine family of companies, has announced that a 241-ft. Amels-built vessel was the first super-yacht to refuel at its new 1,200-ft. dockage facility. MIL Completes Purchase of TransAmerica Transportation Services

Matson Integrated Logistics (MIL) announced that it has completed the asset purchase of TransAmerica Transportation Services, Inc. (TTS), a third party logistics company based in Akron, Ohio. The new MIL business unit will operate initially under the name TransAmerica Transportation Services LLC and will ultimately be renamed Matson Integrated Logistics. The unit will retain virtually all of TTS's current management team. Specializing in truck brokerage services throughout North America, TTS currently moves over 50,000 shipments annually, generating revenues of approximately $45 million during the latest twelve month period. The company offers various brokerage services, including truckload, less-than-truckload, expedited services, and intermodal.

APL Logistics Starts Joint-Venture in Venezuela

APL Logistics has established operations in Venezuela through a joint venture with Grupo Hersan, a leading Venezuelan Logistics provider. Known as APLL/Hersan de Venezuela, the new venture is APL Logistics’ fourth Latin American expansion in 2002. earlier this year, the company opened or expanded operations in Chile, Guatemala and Honduras. Warehousing, container-yard management, transportation, and cross-border logistics, including customs brokerage services. It operates in four Venezuelan cities: Puerto Cabello, Cagua, Moron, and Barquisimeto. Fabio Duque, who formerly managed APLL’s operations in Chile, is the general manager, situated in the Cagua facility.

Bradford Marine Bahamas Completes New Docks

Bradford Grand Bahama, Ltd., one of the Bradford Marine family of companies, announced the completion of 1,200 lineal feet of new docks on the west side of their Freeport, Grand Bahama shipyard. These new docks accommodate yachts and commercial vessels of all sizes, including the largest mega-yachts and super-yachts, and they have full utilities, drainage and work aprons. Construction of the docks utilized almost 2,000 feet of steel pipe and 3,000 feet of 16 inch steel I-beam. Paul Engle, Bradford Marine Bahamas’ President, said “We are very excited about these new docks and our ability to service even more mega and super-yachts and commercial vessels. Bradford Marine Bahamas’ shipyard in Freeport, Grand Bahama has a 35-foot depth, a 1,200-tonne floating drydock, and a 150-tonne Travelift.
