BAE Systems Jacksonville Wins US Navy Repair Work

BAE Systems – Jacksonville Ship Repair LLC has been awarded a contract action for maintenance, modernization, and repair of the U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Lassen (DDG 82) fiscal 2023 Depot Modernization Period.The scope of this acquisition includes all labor, supervision, facilities, equipment, production, testing and quality assurance necessary to prepare for and accomplish the CNO Availability for managing critical modernization, maintenance and repair programs.Work will be performed in the ship's homeport of Mayport, Fla.

Northrop Grumman Redelivers USS Toledo

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NSYE:NOC) has successfully redelivered the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Toledo (SSN 769) to the U.S. Navy. The redelivery took place Feb. 21 following successful sea trials. The ship began its Depot Modernization Period in 2007 at the company's Shipbuilding sector in Newport News, Va. The work included upgrades to the submarine's sonar, combat and weapons systems and maintenance work on the propulsion, auxiliary and habitability systems. Additionally, preservation work was performed on all ballast and internal tanks.

USS Greeneville Undocks

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine, successfully undocked USS Greeneville (SSN 772) one week early on Nov. 14 by returning to "back-to-basics" work practices. "Back to basics", one of the key focus areas of Naval Sea Systems Commander, Vice Adm. Kevin McCoy, is about eliminating bottlenecks and optimizing the workday to improve shipyard processes with the goal of completing quality availabilities on time and on cost. "It is absolutely critical that we meet this commitment," McCoy stated. Greeneville is presently undergoing a scheduled 15-month depot modernization period at the shipyard.

U.S. Navy Gives Lockheed Martin the Green Light

The U.S. Navy has given its final approval for Lockheed Martin to proceed with the integration and shipboard installation of the world's first, fully-open architecture Aegis weapon system for a major surface warship. U.S. Navy Awards GD $10M Contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $10 million contract modification to continue planning and material procurement in support of the USS Springfield (SSN-761) depot modernization period (DMP). Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics. The award modifies a $16.3 million contract announced in February 2003. Under the terms of the contract, Electric Boat is performing engineering, procurement, fabrication and preliminary shipyard work in preparation for the DMP, which is scheduled from May 2004 to June 2005. A DMP comprises repairs, alterations, maintenance and routine work onboard the submarine. The total value of the maintenance-planning contract is $26.3 million.

Submarine Contract Modification

Electric Boat Corporation, Groton, Conn., is being awarded a $110,872,004 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-03-C-2102) for execution of USS Springfield (SSN 761) depot modernization period. Work will be performed in Groton, Conn. (95 percent), and Quonset, R.I. (5 percent), and is expected to be completed in June 2005. Contract funds in the amount of $96,926,600 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Supervisor of Shipbuilding Conversion and Repair, USN, Groton, Conn., is the contracting activity.

BAE Systems Wins $30.9M Navy Contract

BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair, San Diego, Calif., is being awarded a $30.9m cost-plus-award-fee contract for maintenance, repair and alterations for the USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) Depot Modernization Period. Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif., and is expected to be completed in February 2009. Contract funds in the amount of $21.9m will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured and advertised via the Internet, with two proposals received. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, D.C., is the contracting activity.

General Dynamics, Electric Boat Corp. Awarded $6m Navy Contract

General Dynamics, Electric Boat Corp., Groton, Conn., is being awarded a $6,000,000 cost-plus-fixed-fee order (L8-92) under previously awarded Basic Ordering Agreement (N00024-05-G-4117) to support submarine repair work at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. This effort will accomplish maintenance and repair work on USS Scranton (SSN 756) during its Drydocking Selected Restricted Availability, USS Alaska (SSBN 732) during its Engineered Refueling Overhaul, and USS Tucson (SSN 770) during its Depot Modernization Period. Work will take place in Norfolk, Va. (99 percent) and Groton, Conn. (1 percent), and is expected to be completed by January 2008. Contract funds in the amount of $6,000,000 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Electric Boat Awarded Sub Support Work at NNS

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat $10 million to support submarine maintenance and modernization work on USS Charlotte and USS Georgia at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics. An Electric Boat team of 56 trades people and supervisors will work with the Navy on a depot modernization period (DMP) for USS Charlotte and an engineered refueling overhaul (ERO) for USS Georgia, prior to its conversion to a guided-missile and special-operations support ship. That conversion will be performed by Electric Boat.

USS Charlotte Achieves Milestone During Under-Ice Transit

Dave Ozeck, Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. The improved-Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Charlotte (SSN 766) arrived in Norfolk, Va., Nov. 29, following an historic transit that began in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and took the boat under the arctic ice cap. During the transit, Charlotte surfaced at the North Pole, ascending through 61 inches of ice - a record for a Los Angeles-class submarine. Upon reaching the Pole, the boat commenced a 12-hour underwater search of the ice canopy, utilizing specialized ice avoidance and side scan sonar systems. Once an ideal location was found, the ship performed a flawless vertical ascent.

Navy Awards Electric Boat $16.3M Contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $16.3 million contract for planning and material procurement in support of the USS Springfield (SSN-761) depot modernization period (DMP). Under the terms of the contract, Electric Boat will perform advance planning, design, documentation, engineering, procurement, fabrication and preliminary shipyard work in preparation for the DMP, which is scheduled from May 2004 to June 2005. A DMP comprises repairs, alterations, maintenance and routine work onboard the submarine. If all options are exercised and funded, the planning contract would be worth $26.3 million.
