Webb Institute Hires New Assistant Professor

Webb Institute announced Michael T. Martin, PE as its new Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering. Prof. Martin has over 23 years of experience as a marine electrical engineer with a broad background in electrical systems including, electrical propulsion, power generation, power distribution, lighting systems, communications, navigation and internal communication systems. For the past five years, Prof. Martin has been the Vice President and principal engineer at Marine Design Dynamics, Inc.

John C. Daidola has joined Webb Institute as Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering. Dr. Daidola is a structural engineer with over forty-years of experience. His early experience was as Design Engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company and as Chief Naval Architect at Storm-Master Boat Corporation. He was employed for 28 years at M. Rosenblatt & Son, Inc., where he worked as Senior Vice President and Engineering Branch Manager. AMSEC Wins Two US Navy Contracts

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that its AMSEC LLC subsidiary has been awarded two contracts in support of the United States Navy. Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., awarded a contract to AMSEC for technical and logistical support services, as well as material kitting services, for U.S. Navy LCC 19-class Amphibious Command ships. Material kitting services involve the pre-packaging of materials required to complete a specific task. Amphibious Command ships provide command and control for fleet commanders. A total of three indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts were awarded for these services with a combined maximum dollar amount of $96.8 million. AMSEC LLC was also awarded the initial delivery order valued at $1.2 million.

Three Share in Navy US$96.8-M Twin-Ship Modernization Contract

The U.S. Department of Defense informs that AMSEC LLC; CDI Marine Co. LLC; and Q.E.D. Systems Inc., (all located in Virginia Beach, Virginia) are each being awarded a cost-plus-fixed-fee/cost-only, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, multiple award contract for the procurement of material kitting and technical and logistical support services required to support modernization requirements for 'USS Blue Ridge' (LCC 19) and 'USS Mount Whitney' (LCC 20) under the LCC 19 Class Extended Service Life Program. Contractors will provide advance planning efforts associated with shipchecks, drawings, and engineering; and marine maintenance and installation. The maximum dollar amount that may be awarded under all three contracts combined is $96,800,000.

Huntington Ingalls Industries announce that its AMSEC LLC subsidiary has been awarded a contract to provide maintenance, training and planning support for U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ), cost-plus-fixed-fee contract contains a one-year base period with four one-year option periods which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to about US$135- million. Huntington Ingalls Industries subsidiary AMSEC LLC wins IT support services contract to support Department of the Navy. "This is truly a big win for AMSEC," said Michael Bernardi, program manager within the AMSEC's logistics, engineering, technology and training solutions group. AMSEC Employee Honored for Safety Idea

Huntington Ingalls Industries' AMSEC subsidiary employee, Casey Tarnowski, wins annual safety suggestion award. The annual Safety Suggestion Award contest is hosted by the Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA). Casey Tarnowski was honored for his stanchion stabilizer, which prevents stanchions from rolling off flight decks and preventing them from being dropped through flight deck stanchion holes on aircraft carriers. He received the award and a $500 cash prize from Brian Applewhite, VSRA's safety committee chair, at the VSRA's recent general membership meeting.

HII Subsidiary AMSEC Wins US Navy Contract

Huntington Ingalls Industries' subsidiary AMSEC contracted to support submarine & surface ship new construction. AMSEC LLC subsidiary has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-fixed-fee SeaPort Enhanced (SeaPort-e) task order contains a base period with two, one-year option periods which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to approximately $4.9m. HII Subsidiary AMSEC to Move HQ

Huntington Ingalls Industries has announced that its AMSEC LLC subsidiary has picked an existing building in Virginia Beach for its new headquarters. AMSEC had been engaged in a two-year search to identify a new location in the Hampton Roads area for its headquarters. AMSEC signed a 10-year lease agreement with the Olympia Development Corp. for the property located at 5701 Cleveland St. AMSEC will occupy approximately half of the six-story, 126,000 square foot building adjacent to Interstate 264.

Virginia Beach, Va. - Huntington Ingalls Industries announced that its subsidiary, AMSEC, has signed an agreement with Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Philippines Inc., a subsidiary of HHIC Holdings Co. Ltd., to work together in providing maintenance, repair and logistics services to the U.S. Navy and other customers in the western Pacific region. The agreement with HHIC-PHIL allows AMSEC to benefit from Hanjin's state-of-the art shipyard at Subic Bay, Philippines, and accelerate Hanjin's growth into the maintenance, repair and logistics services, as the U.S. Navy increases focus in the Western Pacific region. Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HII) said its AMSEC LLC subsidiary has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy for functions related to integrated logistics support for Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) technical data development, maintenance and management services. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract contains a base period with two one-year option periods which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to approximately $22m. Northrop Grumman’s U.S. Navy Contract, Engineering & Support

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) subsidiary AMSEC LLC has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy for engineering services and technical, logistics, maintenance and installation/alteration support on cargo and weapons handling systems. The cost-plus-fixed-fee task order contains a base period with four one-year option periods, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to approximately $30.5m. Work will commence December 2010 and be performed on U.S. Navy and Military Sealift Command ships in various locations on the U.S. East Coast, West Coast and Japan. If all options are exercised, the work is expected to be completed by December 2015.The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Philadelphia Detachment is the contracting activity.

Dr. Michael Bruno, Dean of the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science at Stevens Institute of Technology, has been selected as Chairman of the Marine Board, under the auspices of the Transportation Research Board ( TRB ) and the National Research Council (NRC). Cleveland Ship Bids for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding

According to an Oct. 5 report from The Virginian-Pilot, a Cleveland-based firm has bid to acquire the entire shipbuilding unit of Northrop Grumman Corp., including the big shipyard in Newport News that builds aircraft carriers and submarines for the Navy. If successful, Cleveland Ship would acquire Northrop Grumman's shipyards in Newport News; Pascagoula, Miss.; and Avondale, La.; as well as two subsidiaries, AMSEC LLC, based in Virginia Beach, and Continental Maritime, a San Diego ship repair facility. Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) subsidiary Amsec LLC has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy for Shipyard, Ship Alteration Installation and Marine/Mechanical Engineering Design Services. Amsec LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding sector, is a full-service provider of engineering, logistics and technical support services to the U.S. Navy and maritime industry. "This contract is an important win for Amsec LLC and continues 28 years of ship alteration and engineering support with Norfolk Naval Shipyard," said Harris Leonard, vice president of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. Amsec LLC was one of several contractors awarded an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity, cost plus fixed fee contract with provisions for firm fixed pricing.

ONR Continues ACCeSS Research Funding
