Swire Oilfield Services Expands in North America

Swire Oilfield Services (Swire), has reinforced its commitment to growth with a significant investment in its North American operations, as part of the company’s global  $150 million investment this year. The company entered the Gulf of Mexico in 2007 with the establishment of an operations headquarters in Houma, Louisiana. Since then it has expanded with nine new facilities across the Gulf coast and North America, including Port Fourchon, Morgan City and Lafayette in Louisiana; Galveston, Three Rivers, Carrizo Springs and Midland/Odessa in Texas; Kenai, Alaska; Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago and a new corporate office in The Woodlands, Texas.

SWIRE Appoints New UK Operations Director

Swire Oilfield Services, a provider of offshore cargo carrying units and associated services, has appointed Michael King as its new UK operations director. In his new role, Mr. King will ensure that the operational capability is fully developed, supported and resourced to provide the highest levels of service to all Swire’s customers served from the UK bases. Mr. King has a vast background in operations, starting 22 years ago when working as an aircraft engineer in the Royal Air Force.

Swire Opens Corporate Office in Houston

Swire Oilfield Services, a provider of offshore cargo-carrying units and associated services, has officially opened its North American corporate office in Houston, TX. Located in one of the major oil capitals, the office will house the North American executive management and Houston commercial teams. Swire Oilfield Services Acquires Weir

Supplier of specialist offshore cargo carrying units, Swire Oilfield Services, has announced the acquisition of the assets and operating business of Australia based Weir OCI, creating the largest regional supplier of offshore cargo carrying units (CCU) in the Australian and Asian region. Weir OCI is the company’s second Australian acquisition in the past year, and takes investment in the region to more than $25m. In August 2008 Swire Oilfield Services acquired Perth based Maritime Products & Services. The three companies together will now trade as Swire Oilfield Services Pty Ltd.

R&B Falcon Confirms U.S. Reading & Bates Development Co. (DEVCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of R&B Falcon Corporation, announced its Boomvang Project in deepwater offshore Texas is proceeding rapidly. DEVCO concurs with previously announced reserve estimates of 70-100 million boe in several oil reservoirs extending across portions of East Breaks Blocks 642, 643, 688 and 732. Platform, production facilities and pipeline contracts are being evaluated, and development drilling is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of this year. The partners anticipate first production in the first quarter of 2002. DEVCO owns a 50 percent working interest in the Boomvang Project. Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kerr-McGee Corp. is operator and owns a 30 percent working interest.

Sea-Land to be Split into Three Units

Sea-Land Services, the U.S.-based container shipping unit of CSX, will reportedly be split into three operating divisions - terminal, domestic shipping and international liner units. The split of divisions will most likely further fuel speculation the international unit would be sold to long time partner Maersk of Denmark's A.P. Moeller Group. The new structure should be in place within 60 to 90 days.

Crowley To Form New Subsidiary

Crowley Maritime Corp. said that upon the sale of its South American liner services to Hamburg Süd, it will operate its remaining Caribbean and Latin American services under a new name - Crowley Liner Services. The wholly owned subsidiary of Crowley Maritime will be divided into two separate operating units, Crowley Liner Services - Puerto Rico/Caribbean and Crowley Liner Services - Latin America. The company has established a revised target date of November 1 for the sale of its South America liner services to Hamburg Sud who will continue to operate the South America services under the Crowley American Transport brand name.
