OceanPal Names Robert Perri as CEO

Greek dry bulk shipowner OceanPal on Friday announced that it has appointed Robert Perri as its new chief executive officer, effective as of February 2, 2023. Perri replaces Eleftherios Papatrifon, who has served as the company’s CEO since November 2021 and who will continue to serve as a Class II director.Perri has over 15 years of shipping company experience, including five years as the chief financial officer of two U.S.-listed companies, and five years as the CFO of a private shipping company. In addition, Perri spent 10 years in equity research for several investment banks covering various industries including shipping, technology and IT services.

Navios Appoints Alexander Kalafatides as Director

The dry cargo vessel player Navios Maritime Partners announced the appointment of Mr. Alexander Kalafatides to its Board of Directors.The international owner and operator of dry bulk and container vessels said in a press release that Kalafatides has nearly 30 years of experience in general management and marketing.Kalafatides also serves as an adjunct professor in International Business at Drexel University. GulfMark Offshore Elects Two New Board Members

GulfMark Offshore, Inc. (NYSE:GLF) has announced the election of Steven W. Kohlhagen and Charles K. Valutas to its Board of Directors for terms expiring in June 2014. Steven W. Kohlhagen is a retired financial executive who brings to the Board expertise in financial accounting, finance and risk management through his extensive experience in, and knowledge of, the financial, securities and foreign exchange markets. He has held various positions in the private sector, including investment banking, asset management, and most recently as a consultant with AMETEK, Inc. He currently serves on the Board of Directors, the Business and Risk Committee and the Compensation Committee of Freddie Mac. He also serves on the Boards of Directors for Abtech Holdings, Inc., Reval Inc.

Rear Admiral Ronald Rábago (center), Assistant Commandant for Engineering & Logistics, U.S. Coast Guard, presided over the Change of Command ceremony held at the Yard’s Columbus Recreation Center. Guest speakers included U.S. Congressman John Sarbanes of the 3rd District of Maryland. The Old Line Brass Quintet of the 229th Army Band, Maryland National Guard, provided musical support. Captain George Lesher of the United States Coast Guard recently assumed command of the U.S. Coast Guard Yard.

ROBOBOATS: Autonomous Boats Aid Maritime Security

The theme of the 4th International RoboBoat Competition, sponsored by The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Foundation and the Office of Naval Research (ONR), was “The Four Elements.” Teams of students designed and built autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) that faced challenges involving earth, air, fire and water. The competition was held at The Founders Inn and Spa, Virginia Beach, VA, June 8-12, 2011 and included 15 teams representing colleges and universities around the world.

Navy Honors Memory of Local Engineering Pioneer

A ceremony was held on November 19, 2001, to rename the Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station’s (NAVSSES) Surface Ship Systems Engineering Complex, the Richard C. Cunningham Engineering Complex. The building (77H) was renamed to honor Cunningham’s pioneering work and engineering innovations in machinery controls and other accomplishments in naval machinery engineering. During the ceremony, Rear Admiral William Cobb, Jr., the Program Executive Officer for Theater Surface Combatants at the Naval Sea Systems Command, presented a special AEGIS Program Lifetime Achievement Award to Mrs. Debra Cunningham on behalf of Richard. NSWC Names New NAVSSES Executive Director

Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Commander Rear Adm. Mike Mathis and Technical Director Mary Lacey announced the selection and pending appointment to the senior executive service of Donald Collins as Executive Director of Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station (NAVSSES) in Philadelphia and Deputy Executive Director, NSWC Carderock, Md. The NAVSSES executive director develops overall policy and directs strategic and tactical planning. A native of Philadelphia, Collins earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University in 1967 and did graduate work at Drexel University, beginning his career in Philadelphia as an electronics engineer in the Measurement Technologies Department in 1974.
