Odfjell Signs to Build Chem Carriers

Odfjell finalized the shipbuilding contracts with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) CO., Ltd in China to build a pair of chemical tankers. The two vessels will be 38,000 dwt, both with 40 tanks and a cargo capacity of about 45,000 cbm. Both vessels will be prepared for dual fuel solution. This order follows the orders for four 49,000 dwt vessels with 33 stainless steel cargo tanks. The capital commitments will be about $116 million. The first vessel will be delivered in June 2020 and the following vessel three months later.

Odfjell Inks LOI for Additional Chemical Tankers

Odfjell SE said it has signed a letter of intent (LOI) for two additional chemical tankers to be built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in China. The capital commitments will be about $116 million. The vessels will be 38,000 dwt with 40 stainless steel cargo tanks and a cargo capacity of about 45,000 cbm. Both vessels will be prepared for dual fuel solution. The LOI, which includes options, follows on orders already committed at the yard for four 49,000 dwt vessels with 33 stainless steel cargo tanks. “Following this order and other commitments recently taken, most of our renewal needs for the 'super segregators' have been met,” said Kristian Mørch, CEO of Odfjell SE.

Odfjell Orders Two Chemical Tankers

Odfjell SE has announced the signing of long term charter agreements for two chemical tankers with stainless steel cargo tanks, for construction in Japan.   The agreement includes two vessels of 35,500 dw tonnes and 28 stainless steel cargo tanks. They are scheduled for delivery in Q4 2018 and Q1 2019 and the agreements run for a minimum of eight years. The vessels will be built in Shin-Kirushima dockyard in Japan.   The agreement is in line with the new Odfjell strategy as launched in February, where the Company announced its targets for tonnage renewal and fleet growth.

Odffjell to Build Record Size Stainless Steel Chem Tankers

Odfjell has ordered four chemical tankers (with options for an additional four) with stainless steel cargo tanks from China Shipbuilding Trading CO., Ltd. and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) CO., Ltd. The ships cost $60m each. The 49,000 dwt ships, with a cargo capacity at 54,600 cbm, reportedly makes them the world's largest stainless steel chemical tankers, according to the Norwegian owner. The first ship is expected to be delivered in June 2019 and the following vessels with three months intervals.

NYK Stolt Order Chemical Parcel Tanker Pair

NYK Stolt Shipholdings says it has ordered two 12,500 dwt parcel tankers from Usuki Shipyard in Japan. NYK explains that a parcel tanker is a versatile chemical tanker that can transport various types of cargoes at the same time, and these two new vessels are the ninth and tenth vessel ordered, following the eight that NSSH currently holds and operates. The two vessels, which will be delivered from the shipyard in July 2016 and September 2016 respectively, will have the most advanced environmental technology with 18 stainless-steel cargo tanks. The new tankships will be chartered to Stolt NYK Asia Pacific Services Inc. (SNAPS), which is a joint venture company between NYK and Stolt Tankers B.V. for operating the vessels.

ClassNK Issues New Welding Guidelines

Classification society ClassNK (Chairman and President: Noboru Ueda) announced that it has released new Guidelines on the Welding of Duplex Stainless Steels. The guidelines have been developed to help shipyards safely and effectively make use of new duplex steels that are increasingly being used in the construction of cargo tanks for chemical carriers. Odfjell buys long-term chartered vessel 'MT Bow Engineer', a 30,086 dwt chemical tanker. Odfjell, a leading company in the global market for transportation and storage of bulk liquid chemicals, acids, edible oils and other special products, has entered into a contract for the purchase of the MT Bow Engineer, a 30,086 DWT chemical tanker (IMO II/III) with 28 stainless steel cargo tanks, built in 2006 at Kitanihon Shipbuilding CO LTD in Japan. Bow Engineer has been on time charter for Odfjell from yard delivery in 2006.

Deltamarin Ltd to design five 38,000 deadweight ton (dwt) stainless steel parcel chemical tankers for Stolt Nielsen subsidiary. The contract, with Stolt Nielsen Ship Finance Ltd, a subsidiary of Stolt-Nielsen Limited, is for the tankships to be built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd. in China. Stolt Tankers Five Stainless Steel Parcel Tankers

Stolt Tankers B.V., a subsidiary of Stolt-Nielsen Limited (Oslo Børs: SNI), has announced  that it has reached an agreement with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. (Hudong-Zhonghua) and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd, (CSTC), under China Shipbuilding Group Corporation (CSSC), for five plus three options 38,000 deadweight ton (dwt) stainless steel parcel tankers, with deliveries expected to take place from December 2015 onwards. The agreement is subject to satisfactory financing being obtained. The ships were designed to deliver substantial improvements in fuel efficiency, while providing operational flexibility with their fully stainless steel cargo tanks, cargo pumps, heating and cooling capacity.

Conrad Industries Announces 2011 Results

Conrad Industries Inc. announced its fourth-quarter and twelve months 2011 results and the addition of new business during the first quarter totaling $61.8 million. For the quarter ended December 31, 2011, Conrad had net income of $6.8 million and earnings per diluted share of $1.09, compared to net income of $3.3 million and earnings per diluted share of $0.51 during the fourth quarter of 2010. The Company had net income of $19.2 million and earnings per diluted share of $3.01 for the twelve months ended December 31, 2011, compared to net income of $10.3 million and earnings per diluted share of $1.60 for the twelve months ended December 31, 2010.

Conrad Industries Reports Profit, New Orders in Annual Results

Conrad Industries, Inc. has announced its fourth quarter and twelve months 2011 results and the addition of new business during the first quarter totaling $61.8 million. New business added during the first quarter of 2012 includes the signing of new contracts and sales of stock barges which brings estimated current backlog to approximately $68.7 million, compared to $47.1 million at December 31, 2011, $112.3 million at March 31, 2011, and $89.5 million at December 31, 2010. Odfjell Buys New Vessel

Odfjell entered into a contract for the purchase of MT Holly Galaxy, a 19,975 dwt chemical tanker (IMO II/III) with 22 stainless steel cargo tanks, built in 2006 at Fukuoka Shipbuilding in Japan. The vessel will be delivered in December 2011 and shall be traded regionally in South America. We are in the process of achieving long term financing of the vessel. - Holly Galaxy will be vessel number 99 in the Odfjell controlled fleet of sophisticated chemical tanker vessels, says Jan A. New Marine Technology: The Hallmark of SMM 2000

The SMM exhibition in Hamburg has once again proven that it is the cradle of marine technology and the grand-daddy of all marine exhibitions. On display in 12 separate halls were more than 1,300 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, launching new products and discussing business with an estimated 37,000 visitors. More telling that sheer numbers, in this case, is the feeling of the exhibition and the ubiquitous marine technology theme. The quality of attendee and exhibitor is always high, but this edition of the bi-annual exhibition seemed especially charged due to the many positives currently running throughout the full spectrum of the maritime market.

Aker Yards Reports Strong Growth

Aker Yards ASA reported an EBITDA of NOK 401 million for the fourth quarter of 2006, an increase of 15 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2005. The EBITDA result for 2006 was NOK 1 443 million, up 40 percent from 2005. Earnings per share (EPS) were NOK 21.77 for the quarter, and NOK 46.56 for the full year. Order intake in the fourth quarter was NOK 8906 million, giving an order backlog of NOK 79,420 million at the end of the quarter, comprising 149 vessels. Aker Yards had revenues of NOK 7 815 million in the fourth quarter of 2006, an increase of 60 percent compared with NOK 4 897 million in the corresponding period of 2005. High activity in all three business areas and the acquisition of new yards contributed to the development.

Aker to Build Four for Stolt-Nielsen

Aker Yards ASA was awarded a $350m contract to build four ships for the Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group BV of Rotterdam. Europe's largest shipbuilder said the ships will be specially designed parcel tankers, with stainless steel cargo tanks, for delivery in late 2008 and early 2009. Parcel tankers can carry bulk chemicals, edible oils, acids and other specialty liquids. The new ships will be 599.5 x 105.5 ft. wide and with a deadweight of 43,000 tons, Aker Yards said in a statement. The company said construction will be split between its Floroe yard in western Norway and its Damen Shipyards Okean in the Ukraine. The fore and after sections will be built in the Ukraine, and the middle sections Norway, where the ships will be completed.

Odfjell Expands its Chemical Tanker Fleet

Odfjell has invested more than $130m recently in expanding its fleet, acquiring five chemical tankers. Four of the chemical tankers are second-hand ships with stainless steel cargo tanks and are built between 1995 and 1997. M/T "Giada D" (10 115 dwt./built 1996) is built in Italy, and was delivered 12 September from Italian owners. The vessel has been renamed "Bow Querida". M/T "Euro Azzurra" (13 843 /1997) is built in Italy, and will be delivered late 2006/early 2007 from English owners. This ship is acquired by a Norwegian 50/50 joint venture company owned by Odfjell ASA and Kristian Gerhard Jebsens Skipsrederi AS. M/T "Brage Atlantic" (17 460/1995) and M/T "Brage Pacific" (17 460/1997) are built in Norway.

GL Contracts 60th Ship with Chinese Yard

A 19,800 dwt stainless steel chemical tanker vessel is the 60th ship being built with Germanischer Lloyd class at Qingshan Shipyard. The 10th anniversary of close cooperation between Qingshan Shipyard and Germanischer Lloyd is being celebrated on August 3 with a ceremony attended by more than 100 guests. Participants include the President of Chang Jiang Shipping Group Liu Xihan, the Vice Governor of Hubei Province Li Chunming, the Vice Mayor of Wuhan City Yue Yong and other representatives of local government and authorities. 27 vessels have been delivered since 1996, 33 ships are under construction and on order. In total, more than 750,000 dwt have been constructed with GL class at Qingshan Shipyard. Qingshan Shipyard has 3,800 employees and is located at the Yangzi River in Wuhan.

Odfjell has bought M/T "Giada D" from Italian owners. The vessel is built in 1996 at Chantiere Navale de Poli, Italy and she is 10,115 dwt with stainless steel cargo tanks. The change of ownership will take place in 3rd Quarter 2006. Further, Odfjell has entered into a long-term time-charter agreement with purchase option for a vessel of 33.000 dwt with stainless steel cargo tanks. The ship will be built at Kitanihon Shipyard, Japan, and will be owned by Yuyo Steamship Co Ltd, Japan. Delivery of the newbuilding will be 3rd Quarter 2009. This agreement will bring the Odfjell-controlled Japanese deep-sea time-charter vessels on order to a total of 16 units, including five vessels from Ahrenkiel. In addition to this Odfjell has 10 newbuildings on order, and options for another 6 ships.
