Design teams in IJmuiden, Montrose, Escrick, Bideford and Shanghai will now all operate under the IJmuiden-based Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) name and will work more closely together. The office in Bideford is new and will focus on cargo ships, patrol vessels, dredgers and mega yachts. Michiel Wijsmuller, managing director of OSD, said, "We are not just rebranding, we have integrated a loose group into a strong company. WorldWise Marine and IMT are now an integrated design company with solid engineering capacity but above all, a strong independent presence in all the key markets.

Three recent deliveries highlight the series of offshore support vessels designed by the Offshore Ship Designers group. The VOS Pathfinder completes a series of five basic IMT955 Standby vessels built at Astilleros Zamakona, Spain, for Vroon Offshore Services. The 180 ft loa VOS Pathfinder was contracted in October to HRL Centrica for a five-year period working in the Morecambe Bay gas field. Also recently delivered are the VOS Pioneer and VOS Prospector, the first two of ten IMT 955-L Field Support Vessels building at Astilleros Zamakona, Spain for Vroon Offshore.

The Offshore Ship Designers group has opened a design office in . Initially staffed with six naval architects it will provide design resources to OSD’s European partners and also provide Asian shipyards with innovative tug and offshore support vessel designs. OSD has recently undergone a change in partners with the acquisition by ’s Ulstein Group of one of the founding partners, Dutch heavy offshore vessel designer . OSD now consists of the combined resources of WorldWise Marine, the specialist tug design and consultancy, and IMT Marine Consultants, which has a strong portfolio of offshore support vessels of all types. Norway's KS North Sea Rescue AS has chosen an IMT 955-N design for a series of six Field Support Vessels to be built at the Yaroslavsky Shipbuilding Plant, Russia. The vessels are a modified version of the IMT Marine Consultants IMT 955 design of which nine are currently building at Astilleros Zamakona, Spain, for Vroon Offshore. The Russian-built vessels will be operated by Stavanger-based Simon Møkster Shipping AS. The deal to choose a UK design to build at a Russian yard was brokered by Norwegian brokers Fearnleys, and the deal includes all equipment, which will be supplied through Russian firm VMF Shipping. Swire Pacific Offshore ordered another four IMT966 anchor handlers to the IMT Marine Consultants design. These follow six similar vessels already under construction at Labroy Shipyards, Singapore. Scotland-based IMT Marine Consultants, partner in the Offshore Ship Designers Group, was responsible for the design of these innovative and powerful vessels. The 120-ton bollard pull vessels are optimized for world-wide service of offshore towage, anchor handling and logistics support activities in all weather conditions. One remarkable feature of the design is that the upper part of the bridge deck can be removed and stored on the main deck for passage into the Caspian Sea. The vessel’s beam is optimised for Caspian Sea passage.

Offshore vessel designer, Offshore Ship Designers (OSD), says going green is no longer just an expensive option, and it is no longer just about containing noxious emissions and oil spills. A global focus on carbon dioxide emission reduction means that going green is both a challenge and a business opportunity for offshore service vessel (OSV) operators. Writing in its regular newsletter Design Waves, Neil Patterson, managing director of IMT Marine Consultants, part of OSD, says, “The public wants cuts in greenhouse gases, and has zero tolerance for marine pollution. Expect to see oil companies responding by going green across the board. There are already signs that oil companies will give preference to chartering ships which produce fewer carbon emissions.

Offshore Ship Designers, based in Ijmuiden, the Netherlands, bring together the skills, experience, innovation and workforce of naval architects and engineers of Dutch companies Sea of Solutions BV, WorldWise Marine BV and UK-based IMT Marine Consultants. MAN B&W Diesel has been awarded the contract to supply complete twin-screw medium speed propulsion packages for six Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS). The newbuildings, which will be built by Labroy Shipyard, Batam, Indonesia (Labroy Shipbuilding and Engineering Pte Ltd, Singapore) are to be operated by Swire Pacific Offshore Limited, Singapore. The first newbuilding is expected to be launched in the beginning of 2007, and the following vessels are planned to follow at two-month intervals. The 120-ton bollard pull AHTS vessels have been designed by the U.K.-based IMT Marine Consultants Ltd., with specific optimization for the worldwide operation of Swire Pacific Offshore activities.
