Qatar said Monday that it will leave the oil cartel OPEC on January 1 after nearly 60 years. Novatek Gas and Power Asia, wholly owned subsidiary of Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer Novatek, shipped a cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced from the Yamal LNG project to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).The LNG cargo was delivered to Fujian LNG Terminal in China via the Northern Sea Route (NSR) by an Arc7 ice-class LNG carrier in 20 days, completing the NSR part of the journey in 7.5 days.A release from the natural gas producers quoted Leonid Mikhelson, Chairman as saying: "We expanded our customer base in China by shipping our first cargo of LNG to CNOOC. PAO Novatek announced that cumulative production at the Yarudeyskoye field owned by the Company’s subsidiary Yargeo, reached a milestone of 10 million tons of crude oil production since the commencement of operations.The field’s commercial production commenced in December 2015, and by January 2016, the field reached its full productive capacity, said a press release from the Russia's largest independent natural gas producer.The Yarudeyskoye field is the largest crude oil asset in the Company’s portfolio, and is characterized by unique geology, which combined with the application of state-of-the-art drilling and completion technologies allowed us to achieve the average production flow rate of more than 350 tons per day per well.

Russia's natural gas producer Novatek and German engineering giant Siemens have signed a strategic partnership agreement that covers cooperation in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.Novatek said in a press release that the agreement was signed by Novatek Chief Executive Leonid Mikhelson and his Siemens counterpart Joe Kaeser in Moscow.According to the agreement, the parties intend to strengthen and develop the strategic partnership and cooperation in integrated gas-to-power projects on a “turn-key” basis inclusive of LNG supply, downstream and power generation, large-, mid- and small-scale LNG liquefaction plants and other topics of mutual interest.

Russian natural gas producer Novatek has shipped its first LNG cargo to the Brazilian market with LNG produced from the Yamal LNG project.A statement from PAO Novatek said that its wholly owned subsidiary, Novatek Gas and Power Asia Pte. Ltd. has shipped its first LNG cargo to the Brazilian market with LNG produced from the Yamal LNG project. Yamal LNG has shipped the first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Spanish company Gas Natural Fenosa under a long-term offtake agreement, a press release from PAO Novatek said. The 170 thousand cubic meter Arc7 ice-class LNG carrier “Fedor Litke” unloaded the first cargo in the port of Mugardos in accordance with the lifting and delivery schedule. Annual sales volumes according to the 24-year long-term offtake contract are 2.5 million tons of LNG, which equals to more than 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Russia's gas production and sales company PAO Novatek has created a transportation unit called Maritime Arctic Transport. "The Board of Directors of PAO Novatek  resolved on creating a transportation subsidiary called Maritime Arctic Transport LLC to manage and optimize transportation costs, build up the unique competencies of Arctic navigation and ensure centralized management of the Arctic fleet," said a press release from company. Novatek’s Chairman of the Management Board Leonid Mikhelson noted: “Novatek’s long-term development strategy envisages a significant growth in LNG production from the Company’s vast hydrocarbon resource base located on the Yamal and Gydan peninsulas in the Arctic zone of more than 55 million tons per annum by 2030.

The Russian natural gas producer, Novatek, has confirmed that it delivered its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced by the Yamal LNG project to India on 27 March. "The LNG was produced by the Yamal LNG project, led by the Russian company, and marks the first ever delivery of Russian Artic LNG to the country," said the company. The cargo was shipped through the company’s subsidiary, Novatek Gas and Power Asia. Novatek’s Deputy Chairman of its Management Board  Board Lev Feodosyev said: "One of our core priorities enumerated in the Company's Corporate Strategy up to 2030, is the expansion of the supply geography and the growth of our presence in the key Asian markets. The first cargo delivered to the growing Indian market is an important development step in this direction”.

Russian energy firm Novatek  has announced that Yamal LNG has commenced producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the first LNG train, with the nameplate capacity of 5.5 million tons per annum. The first cargo loading is scheduled on 8 December 2017 at the Sabetta port using the first Arc7 ice-class LNG tanker named the “Christophe de Margerie”. The Chairman of Novatek's Management Board Leonid Mikhelson noted: "This event marks a milestone accomplishment for the Yamal LNG project. The commencement of LNG production begins a new chapter in our corporate history. Many contractors and suppliers from Russia and abroad were involved in this project. We have received great support from the Russian government in implementing this project.

Oil and natural gas producers began evacuating staff at U.S. Gulf of Mexico platforms on Thursday ahead of Tropical Storm Nate, the second storm in as many months to threaten Gulf Coast oil and refining facilities. Nate, which has already killed three people in Costa Rica, according to local authorities, is forecast to scrape past Honduras and Mexico, enter the Gulf and strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall early on Sunday in Louisiana, near several major refineries. That path takes it through an area populated by offshore oil and natural gas platforms, which pumps more than 1.6 million barrels of crude per day, about 17 percent of U.S. output, according to government data. Forecasts for Nate have shifted in the past 24 hours.

AltaGas says it will proceed with construction of Canada’s first West Coast propane export facility. It has federal approval and long-term commercial agreements in hand. The Ridley Export Terminal, located at Prince Rupert, B.C., will be designed to ship 1.2 million tonnes of propane per year and is estimated to cost approximately $450 - $500 million, the company says. The terminal, near Prince Rupert, will cut shipping distances to Asian markets to 10 days from 25 compared the U.S. Gulf Coast, the company says. The project is expected to create 200 to 250 construction jobs and about 40 to 50 permanent jobs once operational. “This export facility is another promising development for our province, connecting producers in northeast B.C. to markets in Asia,” said B.C.

The $50 billion Nicaragua Canal scheme promises to bring huge economic benefits to Central America's poorest country. But environmentalists and peasant farmers strongly oppose the project. And many are wary of the Chinese company that is to construct the canal. The massive canal will connect the Pacific and Caribbean and could reduce the cost of shipping commodities from Europe to Asia. The canal would be both longer and wider than the Panama Canal. Canal critics fear there will be confiscations of land, environmental mayhem and a job boom that will bypass the locals. FMC Commissioner William P. The Panama Canal may remake world trade patterns. To be finished in 2015, the $5-billion expansion of the Panama Canal will create a third lane accommodating mega-ships nearly three times larger than previously passable and this may significantly reduce shipping time to Asia. The expansion impacts state ports, rail lines, trucking and cargo movement from the south and east to the west. The U.S., once an importer of natural gas, could see new shale gas development, LNG projects, and the faster shipping lanes open new Asian markets.

Kitimat LNG Inc. announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with EOG Resources Canada (EOG) to supply natural gas to Kitimat LNG’s proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Kitimat, B.C. Pursuant to the MOU, Kitimat LNG and EOG are proceeding to negotiate a definitive agreement under which EOG would supply specific quantities of the LNG facility’s 700 million cubic feet per day of natural gas feedstock. “EOG’s participation in our project reinforces the fact that business and natural gas fundamentals support our LNG terminal,” said Rosemary Boulton, President of Kitimat LNG. EOG is the first producer to sign an MOU with Kitimat LNG.
