Hydrogen-fueled Ship Earns AIP

ClassNK has issued an Approval in Principle (AiP) for a parcel layout concept for a hydrogen-fueled multi-purpose vessel developed by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), MOL Drybulk Ltd. (MOL Drybulk), Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd. (Onomichi Dockyard), Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Kawasaki), Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG). d’Amico Buys Chartered-in MR Tanker

d’Amico International Shipping S.A. announces that its operating subsidiary d’Amico Tankers exercised its purchase option on the High Adventurer, a 50,000 dwt medium-range product tanker vessel built in November 2017 by Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd., Japan, for a consideration of JPY 4.1 billion (equivalent to approximately US$ 30.4 million) and with delivery expected in November 2022.Paolo d’Amico, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of d’Amico International Shipping, said, “I’m very pleased to announce the purchase of MT High Adventurer, an MR vessel built in Japan in November 2017 and time-chartered-in by d’Amico Tankers ever since.

Sri Lanka, Korea Pact on BWMS

Sri Lanka's leading ship repair, ship building, heavy engineering and offshore engineering facility Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC)  inked an agreement with PANASIA, Korea as a partner for Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) and Scrubber installation.This collaboration with PANASIA will allow Colombo Dockyard to offer this service of installation of BWMS and Scrubbers to its clientele, said a press release from the ship building company is based in Colombo.Colombo Dockyard has already installed eight Numbers PANASIA Ballast Water Management Systems on its new construction vessels; this is an added positive factor for ship owners to look at Colombo Dockyard confidently for repair and installation solutions of BWMS.

Ardmore Shipping Reports Net Loss of $12.5 Mln

Tanker owner Ardmore Shipping Corporation reported a net loss of $12.5 million for the twelve months ended December 31, 2017, or $0.37 basic and diluted loss per share, as compared to a net profit of $3.7 million, or $0.12 basic and diluted earnings per share, for the twelve months ended December 31, 2016. The company acquired the Ardmore Sealancer, a high-quality 47,500 Dwt MR product tanker constructed at Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. in Japan in 2008. Ardmore took delivery of the vessel on January 23, 2018. Anthony Gurnee, the Company's Chief Executive Officer, commented: "Ardmore continues to execute on its strategy in spite of soft charter market conditions. He added, " The charter market was soft overall for 2017, in spite of some strength during the summer months.

OMI Announces Delivery New Vessel

OMI Corporation today announced that it had taken delivery of the Amazon, a new 47,000 dwt product tanker, the first of a series of four sisterships being constructed for the Company by Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd. pursuant to contracts between the Company and Sumitomo Corporation. The vessel has entered into a previously announced three-year time charter. Craig H. Stevenson, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of OMI commented that "This brings to fifteen the number of vessels on long term time charter, with two more new product tankers to be added during the first quarter of this year. We now have twenty handysize and handymax product tankers, making us the largest owner in the world in this size category. OMI has on order at shipyards two Suezmaxes and six product carriers.

OMI Corporation has delivered the Amazon, a 47,000 dwt product tanker, which is the first of a series of four sisterships being constructed for Onomichi Dockyard Co. Colombo Dockyard Is Back In Business

Colombo Dockyard Ltd resumed operations on Wednesday after successful negotiations with unions following a week-long dispute. The Sri Lankan ship builder stopped operations last Thursday after its workforce protested about overtime limitations. Colombo Dockyard was privatized in 1993 when the government sold a 51-percent stake to Japan's Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd.

ODC Completes Type Product Carriers

Onomichi dockyard Co., Ltd. (ODC) completed construction of two 47,000 DWT type product carriers, Amazon and San Jacinto, for OMI Corporation in January and March 2002, respectively. The carriers are the 30th and 31st carriers of the 47,000DWT series built since the first in 1995. The company will build ten more product carriers, which are now one of the best sellers among standardized vessels built by the company. The 47,000 DWT type series is designed under the policy of building “double hull product carriers at low cost for efficient oil product transport.” The series has a maximum beam of 32.2m, which can pass through the Panama Canal, and a dept of 19.1m, which is the maximum depth to retain the ship stability.

CDL to Build Two Ships

Colombo Dockyard Limited (CDL) secured orders for construction of two numbers 250 passenger capacity ships for the Government of India, the Daily News reported. This is the first time in the history of local shipbuilding industry that a Sri Lankan organization (in this case CDL) has been awarded a shipbuilding project by the government of India. This is the first Ocean going passenger vessel construction to be undertaken by CDL. Since its inception in 1974 CDL has managed to prove its capabilities by building Tug boats, fast crafts, anchor handling tugs to meet owner’s (Local and foreign) requirements and international classification society standards.
