MHI to Build Two Cruise Ships for Carnival
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) began construction today at its Nagasaki Shipyard and Machinery Works on the first of two new generation cruise ships for AIDA Cruises, the German cruise company part of Costa Group, Europe's largest cruise company member of Carnival Corporation & plc. MHI said the two new ships, which will incorporate an array of the world's leading-edge environmental technologies, are scheduled for delivery in the spring of March 2015 and 2016 respectively.
Shanghai MHI, JV with Shanghai Diesel Engine Begin Operation
Shanghai MHI Engine Co., Ltd., a manufacturer and marketer of diesel engines jointly established by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Shanghai Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. (SDEC) – a Chinese diesel engine manufacturer – has launched operation. The JV aims to establish a solid position in the Chinese market for industrial-use diesel engines by building up market share through more competitively priced products. To celebrate the commencement of operation, Shanghai MHI Engine held an opening ceremony at the company's site in Yangpu District, Shanghai.
MHI Names New President
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) names Shunichi Miyanaga as the company's new President. The new president is currently an MHI Representative Director and Senior Executive Vice President. Hideaki Omiya, MHI's current President, will become Chairman of the company succeeding Kazuo Tsukuda, who will become Senior Corporate Advisor. Oct. MOL, Kansai Electric Power Sign Deals to Build, Charter LNG Carriers
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. signed a long-term contract for two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers with Kansai Electric Power Inc. (President: Makoto Yagi). At the same time, MOL concluded contracts to build the ships Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (President: Satoshi Hasegawa) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (President: Hideaki Omiya). The ships are slated for launching in 2016 and 2017. MOL will manage and operate the vessels, with which transport LNG for Kansai Electric Power. The first vessel is a Moss-type carrier with a 164,700m3 cargo tank capacity, based on a new design from Kawasaki Heavy Industries. It will be the largest ship in its class that can pass through the expanded Panama Canal which is scheduled for completion in 2014…
World’s First Hybrid Car Carrier Completed
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) announced the completion of the hybrid car carrier Emerald Ace, designed to generate zero emissions while berthed, at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Omiya Named President of MHI
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) announced that Hideaki Omiya, currently an MHI Representative Director and Senior Executive Vice President, was named the new President of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. The decision was made at the extraordinary meeting of the board of directors, held on January 29. He will assume the new position on April 1, 2008.
